Staff literally bent over backwards to help with our needs, (we’d booked with two dogs, first time they’d had a hotel stay with us, one dog extremely hyper and needy.. 🤣) had a table booked for a meal before realising he’d just annoy everyone and would have screamed like a child if left in the room, went downstairs to cancel the table and was told we could have the smaller closed off dining area to ourselves, we was absolutely thrilled and enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal in private with both dogs, so kind of the staff, outstanding customer service

It was a shame we didn’t check beforehand that the dog friendly rooms were on the top floor, totally our fault for not checking but our elderly rottie really struggled with the steep flights of stairs

I liked it all, except that for us, the Snug Double room was a bit too snug, as my husband is 6'2". We would simply book a larger room with a larger bed next time. So not their fault, ours for assuming we'd be fine in the snug double. It was, however, the last room left when I booked, so we took it because we wanted to stay there as it looked so lovely and the restaurant aspect promised good food, and delivered. We will simply book early next time and move to a larger double. BUT...and this is important...the entire building is pet friendly. Despite that, it was spotless and in good repair, which is often not the case with pet-friendly lodgings So either people all have very good pets or the staff is on top of muddy paw prints and so on. I'd say the latter. The staff were--every single one of them--wonderfully attentive. As we were there over Christmas, I can also comment on the decorations, which were abundant but done with taste and flair.

Gorgeous location in a quiet Suffolk Village. The building was beautiful and ideally decorated. We didn't use the restaurant but the menu looked good (we were meeting friends elsewhere). Bar was well stocked and staff very helpful. We upgraded and had a beautiful and large room. Bathroom was a little less decadent than the rest of the hotel but clean enough. We used our own toiletries but good to see environmental impact was thought about. TV was odd and difficult to use - usual channels didn't seem available and if we tried Netflix or any of the other apps, none of them worked, so we turned it off and just had music playing on our phones. Comfy bed, and tea/coffee available, so all good. We loved it. *worth mentioning that had we paid full price I would have felt it a little expensive, but I had a Booking.com credit and so actually it felt like a bargain.

As mentioned the bathroom needed a little updating in décor but the shower was amazing - one of the nicest bits. TV was difficult to use.

I loved everything about my stay at The Black Lion. In all but name this is a luxury boutique hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, super quality facilities and very dog-friendly with dogs being allowed throughout the hotel. A Santa stocking on the door of each room on Christmas morning was a thoughtful and lovely touch.

Nice location, staff were very friendly and efficient, room was large and well equipped, very good evening meal and breakfast, good bar with a couple of hand pulled beers including one from the Nethergate brewery less than a mile away.

Bed was a little on the small side, dwarfed by the size of the room. Bathroom was not set up as a wet room but only had a half screen around the otherwise excellent shower. A couple of tiny patches of mould between the tiles and some peeling paint on the ceiling.

The staff were amazing. Super helpful, friendly and nothing was too much. The food was also incredible, definitely order the steak and the cooked breakfast was very good. A really nice clean place in a stunning location. Great products provided in the bathroom too. Would fully recommend.

Unfortunately due to a mix up between systems our booking didn't make it through. We booked the big suite so as a result couldn't have it which was disappointing. We still had a nice room and we were appropriately compensated for the mix up but it was a tricky start to the trip. As a result id recommend calling them to confirm once booking on booking.com. I'm 6ft 2 and had to duck significantly under the shower in our room too which was a bit annoying but aside from that everything else was brilliant and certainly would fully recommend staying with them.

The location overlooking the village green is idyllic. Our room was large and beautifully furnished with a comfortable bed and the bathroom was equipped with a powerful shower and free toiletries. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast during our stay, both of which were excellent.

The location was great. The welcome was good. Easy check in on line. Our room was well presented and very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. My gluten free dietary needs were well catered for. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We were disappointed with the service charge added to the bill for dinner. Prices for dinner were a little on the high side, but this added charge made it more expensive. We do like to give a tip but feel it should be our choice how much. A small irritant in an otherwise fantastic stay.

Lovely local Hotel and Pub, we stayed hear while attending the Local LeeStock festival at Kentwell Hall, so this was just a very short walk afterwards. Also we stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast was a very high standard. Would stay again...... Oh we are next year :o)

Small thing, the bar was shut on the Sunday when we got back, so couldn't have a night cap before bed.

Really lovely hotel with lots of character and very cosy. Staff went out their way to help. Really enjoyed the breakfast....we would definately return. . Hotel also accepts dogs staying which is a nice touch.....

On booking confirmation told Hotel restaurant was closed on both of the days we were staying (Monday and Tuesday), and the bar closed at 6pm on Tuesday - probably their quietest days. As it turned out we had no luck to find a place to eat either lunch or dinner anywhere as was fully booked, even for a drink in a coffee shop - told for 'Valentine's', so watch your dates if you have to eat out on these days.....
