The room was very nice, cosy and clean and the location was great. The pub was an old pub, great features and a lovely warm log fire. I would definitely stay again (Just wouldn't have dinner there sorry to say)

The food was terrible,my tomato soup was very bland and I had to top up with salt and pepper for a little taste, my chips and mushroom/stilton burger was dripping in grease and the burger fell apart when picked up (it was that greasy) and the onion rings were full of grease I had to send my food back.To be fair this was deducted from our bill. The receptionist checking us in wasn't very welcoming

Breakfast was fresh, well cooked and delicious. Our evening meal was outstanding. Beautiful produce, well cooked and so tasty. Staff were exceptional and attentive at all times and the accommodation was clean and comfy and just what we needed for our over night stay. We definitely plan to return.

Continental breakfast area was fairly empty when we arrived and would have been nice to have Croissants and pain au chocolate available but staff were happy to refill the stock. The room was really clean, freshly painted, no mould in bathroom etc. I just found my socks were covered in dog hairs after walking around for a while. Not a big issue but we didn't have a dog with us.

I was expecting a room in a pub, but the accommodation far exceeded my expectations in every way! The rooms are in a separate block a few yards away from the pub and large, very well appointed, and very quiet. Every member of staff I interacted with was friendly and helpful and it was genuine, not forced. The restaurant food was excellent - the Black horse classic burger was one of the best I have ever eaten. The breakfast was ample and tasty too. As the food is so good it is recommended to book a table if you want to eat in the restaurant. We were also told that food could be taken to the rooms, or eaten in the bar as well. Our stay was for the Kent Downs Ultra challenge and this hotel is ideally placed for that event. If the event is put on again in 2025 then I suspect this hotel will be packed with challengers!

Nothing, the whole experience was great

The chalet was much larger than it appeared from the outside and beautifully decorated. Umbrella provided for walks to the main building. 2 lovely armchairs to sit in. Clean as a whistle. Dog accepted. Parking close to the chalet when available.

It was wet when we stayed so difficult to keep the floor clean and dry. The chalet area is built into a hill that is quite steep for my poor defective knees and the brick paving is slippery when wet. Coming in off the A249 is fraught with danger at busy times on the road. If you arrive when the bar and restaurant are busy it can be difficult to park.

Lovely pleasant and friendly greetings at breakfast. Excellent cooked breakfast and good choice of cereal or yoghurt with freshly cut fruit if you wanted it. Large room with seating area which you don’t always have. Tea, coffe and biscuits provided and lovely hot water in the morning shower. Loads of parking and plenty of places to walk the dog. Interesting choices for dinner with different specials, Both I tried were delicious. Dog loft brilliant for like minded dog owners to have their dinner without making non-dog lovers uncomfortable but nice to be able to sit in the bar later on with the dog. I tried 2 of the 6 walks suggested in reception. Excellent laminated maps and all with very clear instructions. This was a fantastic idea when visitors don’t know their way about the area. It made for two really good walks rather than aimless wanders.

Not a dislike just a comment. If you are only 5ft 2in like me its impossible to turn on the bathroom fan owner the door.

The lovely village pub feel. Very relaxed and a non hurried and relaxed atmosphere. Helpful staff. Wonderful food! Fab outdoor space!! The manager (sorry name unknown) who runs around like the Duracell bunny! Very efficient and friendly man! Lovely hot shower and v. clean bathroom.

Our table was not ready when we went for dinner, so we offered to go outside for a drink. When we came back 1/2 an hour later (we were in no hurry) I asked if our table was ready. The young waitress said 'I don't know, I am not a manager.' This translated to me as 'I don't care if it is ready or not!' An offer to go and find out would have been more help. This was blip I am sure, and was not anything that would prevent us returning.

Restaurant was amazing and the Kentish ale was well kept and very tasty. We were barely able to move walking back to the room as we were so full! Breakfast was similarly brilliant - hot, tasty, and plentiful. Great quality ingredients that were well cooked. Bed was comfy and we slept well despite the full bellys.

Nothing major, just niggly little things really. The room was chilly when we arrived but soon warmed up when we switched on the heating. Bathroom was spotless but a little tired looking. TV channels were messed up, either programmed wrong or somebody had fiddled with them.

Dearly Beloved and I stayed at the Black Horse this week en route for a channel crossing, great rural location but only a short distance from main routes. We found a friendly welcome at a beautiful old Kent Inn. We had Primrose, a comfortable room well appointed and separate from the pub itself. Very clean, all the conveniences. The Inn is really quirky with lots of small nooks and snugs, beer and wine selections are very good including local ales, ciders and wine (you can see vineyards on your drive in). Food is cracking, our starters and mains were first class and very good value for the standard, and we found this continued to the excellent breakfast service. We will be looking to stay again with friends in the future. Umm, had to eat it, but that was pork chop, beetroot, broccoli and Pomme Anna. Delicious.

The pub and rooms are set in a very quiet location, accessed by a single track road with passing places. The family room was really spacious even with the bunk beds. The wet room was a pleasant surprise as well. The actual pub is lovely as it’s been kept like an old Inn with hops hanging from the ceilings, old pictures and muskets hanging on the walls. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely exceptional full marks to their chefs. We only stayed the one night but popped back for dinner after visiting the Peony Farm which is about a 6 minute drive away.

The light switches for the bedside lamps were a little too far away for my liking and one of our mugs was chipped.

It’s a proper old pub, nicely finished with authentic touches. Service is good, and the food is good and reasonably priced. The accommodation area is unique and very peaceful.. chalets are formed in blocks on a hillside. Parking is plentiful and they have electric vehicle charging. The chalets are spotlessly clean and a very nice touch was the kit box for our dog, with some treats, blankets and a microfibres towel/coat. If you want a stop enroute to the channel crossing or a weekend walking around the Kent countryside, then this is a perfect spot.

I liked everything, but accessibility might be a challenge for some because of the hills. Vehicle access is via narrow lanes, which may be a challenge for some.
