One room was lovely, the other poor. It was very small and had no view being overshadowed by the domed roof of the restaurant which of course was lit up. There was also a walkway around this and so had to have the blind shut all the time. I thought this room should have been much less money than the other. Also housekeeping missed this room on one occasion.
Housekeeping in general. Lack of attention to detail like not noticing the soap dispenser over the bath was empty. A bit late to discover this when in the shower. Not noticing the milk was missing. Reception, however, was very happy to supply this in abundance when mentioned. Also serving staff at breakfast could be encouraged to use their eyes and hands and clear the dirty plates off the table. A bit off-putting being served the next course while the table is covered in dirty plates.

7th hotel in eight days. Three 3 star ones were super, 2 were awful and the sixth with 4 stars was just about alright. This one, dating from the 16th century, has real character and and has to be judged in a slightly different way to the others. It has its own large car park which is free for residents - though since I arrived at a busy lunchtime, I was fortunate in being able to find a space. After after parking, you enter the back door to the bar and reception area. There I got a very warm welcome and was pleased to find that, as I had requested, my room was already available. Though there may be a couple of rooms on the ground floor, almost all are all upstairs. Since there is no lift, so the hotel is unlikely to be suitable for persons of reduced mobility, especially since the stairs are somewhat uneven. My room number, 18, was on the first floor. It had a small entrance area, with clothes cupboard, door to the bathroom, framed mirror and door to the bedroom. This was plenty big enough, with bed, desk, armchair, television and two night tables. In any other hotel, I might be inclined to say it was a little dilapidated but it was clean (though I did encounter one nut and a red sequin on the carpet) and what can you expect in a building with original oak beams that's well over 400 years old. The bed was comfortable and the heating could not be more efficient. The bathroom is also rather dated but has a sink, a nice big mirror, a toilet and a bath with adjustable shower head. There are warnings about the temperature of the water and the taps are not thermosthetic, making control quite difficult. I also don't much go for flexible shower curtains and there were some traces of mould on this and around the edges of the bath. The panel with the lights above the sink could do with being replaced. There's also a towel rail which - quite exceptionally in my experience - is actually hot.

The staff was very friendly and professional. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The hotel itself was charming, located in a historic building on the main street (High Street) of the town. The ground floor pub was warm and welcoming with good food and drink.
One of the windows would not stay open because of a broken sash cord on one side, so I propped it open with a clothes hanger. The floor had several soft spots that you could feel through the carpet. There was no lift, and the stairs were uneven, but these things should be expected in a 400+ year old building!

All the staff , especially Bethany, were superb. Nothing too much trouble, breakfast every morning was perfectly cooked meals were superb in the evening (standard chain fare but somehow "more") Hotel perfectly situated in the high street - so many historical surroundings, including the hotel itself being Georgian - one tiny issue was the lack of electrical sockets - this was easily rectified with an extension supplied by the lovely Bethany. Our 25th wedding anniversary celebrated with a vow renewal/handfasting at nearby Avebury went perfectly with the assistance of all the staff.

Nice choise of breakfast from the menue, including a vegetarian options (2) and English breakfast (with beens) The room was quiet, spacious with sofa included, bathroom was clean and spacious as well. The parcking was inluded, and available at the back side of the hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful.
It was difficult to open the window, thus, the air in the room was a bit stuffy. Also, the particular room was exposed to the small terrace where some people liked to smoke or chat, thus, it was a but chatty and smelly. in general - not too much to complain about...

Room 31 large and comfortable…shower excellent! Breakfast very good! Friendly staff. Location in town - perfect. Will stay here again but ask for less stairs up next time 🤣
Help with bags up to our top floor room would have been appreciated …we are in our late 60’s early 70’s. I have a bad back 😪 Heavy fire door near the top didn’t help either. Just an offer of help would be great when arrive with bags. A light switch we could reach from the bed would be helpful too. It was pitch black during night and hard to find light switch let alone the bathroom …

A good family room at a reasonable price, that enabled us to visit the antiquities of Avebury, a few miles down the road. Only places available in Swindon came close to this price when I booked. Swindon felt too far from Avebury. Good bar and the food was hearty; the cooked breakfasts were excellent. Good staff. It has a real Inn feel - you leave your room, drop down a short flight of stairs and you are more or less in the pub. I liked that, and the draft beer was also good. Marlborough as a town has so many good places to eat and a few good pubs. We were spoiled for choice over two nights. Ample parking at the rear of the hotel in a town where parking appears in short supply. Nearby Avebury was superb.

Quaint and beautiful little hotel! Wasn’t expecting much until I walked into my room. I was gobsmacked! So beautiful! Gorgeous room, beautiful view, huge bathroom and lovely details. Beautiful stay!
Unfortunately the people above my room were ridiculously loud and woke me up on the hour from 3am onwards. Not appreciated. I did not wake up the most rested, but tried to remain in bed until I had to leave. If I didn’t have to leave so early I could’ve enjoyed a lie in after them leaving at 8am for breakfast.

Wonderful hotel in the centre of Marlborough. Great location with free parking to the rear. The room was above average size, well-appointed and comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was good, with excellent service from all staff. Really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, with a range of freshly cooked dishes to choose from.
Nothing to dislike, really.

The staff were excellent and the food was very good. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious and quiet. It was in an excellent location and parking was a real bonus in a town where long term parking is difficult. The hotel had a lovely atmosphere and it was great to be able to watch the world go by from the outside tables.
The shower was faulty. But the complaint was addressed promptly and we were offered an alternative room. The decor is a bit tired, but I believe it is to be upgraded soon.
