For an outwardly unremarkable basic hotel room I everything I needed on this trip. Comfy bed and a real bonus was the excellent large well equipped gym and swimming pool sauna steam jacuzzi area. I went home fitter then when I arrived. There is also good countryside walk woodland trust public footpath close to the hotel. Plenty of parking which felt pretty safe and secure. Good for larger vehicles as well. Staff are great very welcoming, always busy seemed to be a well functioning and happy team of people doing a good job. Front desk and organisiation was very user friendly. I had to change my booking several times due to changing work commitments but they accommodated me comfortably and with no fuss. Minor issues with the room (bath plug broke ) were resolved very quickly. Breakfast is good set me up for the day. Dinners in the large pub bar area big screen football most nights not my thing but not the end of the world. Surprisingly good selection of bottled beers and wines. Food was really well done and sensibly priced good quality food well presented and cooked. A good size tea mug in the rooms was a pleasant surprise made me feel at home thanks

Rooms are a little dated and tired but the essentials are bang on i.e comfy bed clean linen towels and hygiene. If you are looking for a boutique hotel this is not it. but for work rest and play it hits all my marks.

The rooms are a tiny bit dated, but spotless, comfee beds. The breakfast was amazing lots on offer and very tasty, we enjoyed the food. The pub on site was very good too, we tried the food and a very tasty meal. We Loved the pool and spa area, fresh towels given when you use the pool or spa. Staff all very friendly, will answer any questions when asked, they all work very hard and all look happy in their job, smiling and talking to people, making you feel very welcome. 10/10.

Just a tiny bit dated, but this did not spoil our stay at all, we would stay again, when we come into this area again.

Room was fine, staff were helpful, easy to find, plenty of parking, ate food there for three of the nights and it was very good, even when we were late one evening and literally 8 of us arrived back from the darts competition with a few minutes before dinner orders closed, the staff prioritised us all and made sure we got our food, on one evening we made friends with some family members of a member of staff, played darts with their relative who had Downs syndrome and we had a really nice time.

Nothing to complain about

The staff were wonderful always on hand to answer questions. We arrived and at last minute we needed to change one of our rooms from an exclusive double to a twin (our request) the receptionist could not have done any more to help within minutes we were given a family room. The breakfast staff were great catering to all the my son's needs in the morning before a big rugby game on the afternoon. Even though the hotel was catering for a Christmas event the restaurant staff were attentive and managed to get us in for a late meal and we had a warm friendly welcome. Rooms were warm, clean and well equipped for the stay. Dogs were welcomed and loved their stay too.

The shower was amazing. The beds were extremely comfortable and the reception staff were super helpful and certain restaurant staff were lovely. Food was affordable and delicious. Swimming pool was good as an addition to staying. Being a dog friendly location was really great and everyone was very accommodating of her and very sweet with her. This was really what made our stay.

Shower didn’t work in the beginning which caused some issue on the first morning. But as I said was amazing once working. Parking was very busy with work vans and gym users, designated parking for hotel guests might be a good idea. One red headed member of staff in the olde post restaurant attached to the hotel managed to be rude 2 nights of our 3 night stay. To both myself and my friend which wasn’t pleasant, maybe some customer service training would be a good idea, as her fellow staff members were also affected by her negative attitude. Room also was not cleaned during our stay, so we had to ask for extras like bin bags and toilet paper from reception. On the card in the room it said it would be cleaned every second day.

The free spa access & the breakfast. Was panicking the hotel was going to be terrible after ready reviews but was very pleasantly surprised.

The TV was broken in the bedroom & the rooms are dated but are clean. They are more than sufficient for a night or two away.

Being able to use the gym is a plus at the price. The rooms are a good size and bedroom is comfortable.

The bathroom was very tight to use. Main parking is always full. Had to use the overflow where the road surface is very uneven.

The staff were welcoming. Laura at the check-in was great! Lovely young lady. Smiling and knows her job. 2nd Laura on my way to the pool was also very helpful with a warm smile. Hannah at breakfast was AMAZING! she knew my first day, I was in a rush. She made sure I still got my breakfast and helped me. Hannah was superb! The breakfast was delicious and good variety! It was my first time in Middlesbrough, and when I go back, I will be staying at the Sporting Lodge. My room was so spacious, comfortable, and a nice view looking from my window. I am usually very fussy about the hotel that I book. This was the closest for the graduation I came for, that had a pool and jacuzzi, I however enjoyed my stay and will be back with family and friends. Thank you, Hannah!

I have never been to a hotel where the staff have surpassed the staff here at The Sporting Lodge in Thornaby.. EVERY member of staff went above and beyond.. I am a wheelchair user, and honestly, the staff couldn't have done anything more for us.. The manager should be so proud of their staff.!!

A few little minor flaws, but as stated, minor. There are no plug sockets next to the bed, so anyone who needs a CPAP machine or nebuliser, please ensure you bring an extension lead with you. This was the second time we stayed here and you learn by these things, I shall ensure I always carry an extension lead from now on as I have to charge my wheelchair and use a CPAP so 2 sockets necessary for me..

The staff were amazing, absolutely 💯% every single member of staff we came across were so obliging and could not have done any better, receptionists did a fabulous job as were plenty of wrong rooms with the folks in front of us at the desk, staff dealt with it amazingly. The restaurant staff members again couldn't have been any better, ALL helped us out and had smiles on their faces when greeting us and throughout breakfast, beautiful breakfast too.. Housekeeping ladies we saw were also happy and cheerful and very obliging.. To who took the messages in, they were so efficient and kept me updated with the messages, they acted upon my requests and ensured they adhered to it and sooooo happy they sure did cater to my needs. Whoever is the manager, they should be ever so proud of their staff.. Regardless of the teeny faults, we WILL return..

The room we were in (116) didn't have a plug socket next to the bed, so I couldn't plug my sleep apnea machine in. The toilet needed to be flushed twice each time it was used, as it didn't flush the paper away. The plughole in bathroom needs to perhaps be looked at due to lever not letting water drain away correctly, My complaints are not really complaints, just minor faults, and I mean MINOR things, we certainly wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
