This quirky hotel is situated in a lovely location within a short walk to the seafront. Well equipped and comfortable rooms. Exceptionally helpful staff which was led by a very attentive and friendly host, Jonty. The breakfast included was very comprehensive and tasty.

What's not to like in this charming quirky hotel? Only perhaps the haute cuisine dinner on offer each night was not particularly suitable for my party which comprised of me and my 13 year old son . I am sure for the right clientele though the menu would be well worth the rather pricey £35 pp for the 3 courses.

The hotel is lovely and set in a beautiful garden. Although an old building (which is a plus) it has been really well maintained. The bedroom I had was top notch, the bathroom modern and all the communal areas were clean and stylish. Situated essentially near the top of the main street you can walk to the seafront either via all the shops or via the Riverside Walk. It's a great location. The owners and staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is wonderful...the chef has this nailed! Parking is good. I will stay here again on my next Sidmouth visit.

There was genuinely nothing I didn't like.

The hotel was in a central location and had beautiful gardens with a fountain and a bench to sit. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room had plenty of towels, a hairdryer, and free water, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, which was replenished every day. Although reception closes at 10pm, I was given a key to let myself into the hotel if I returned later.

The corridor I stayed on was quite noisy, with people making a lot of noise moving up and down it very early in the morning.

Excellent place to stay. The old hotel has been tastefully updated but remains charming and quirky with helpful and friendly staff. Only a short distance from the seafront. It has ample parking in the hotel grounds and is conveniently located within a 10 minute drive to the nearby wonderful donkey sanctuary.

I think it would be difficult to find any fault with this delightful hotel. For us everything was simply perfect.

Beautiful location within easy walk of beach and shops. Plenty of parking. Pretty garden and seating area. Immaculately clean and fresh. Amazing selection at breakfast which was served with such efficiency and grace. Definately 5 Stars to staff for their attention to detail and friendliness. At a push id say a mini fridge would have been handy

The hotel looks welcoming from the outside and you're not disappointed when you get inside. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere and the staff make it a perfect place to stay; nothing is too much trouble for them. The room was clean, comfortable, light and airy and was maintained to a high standard. The food is excellent; great breakfast menu and different choices on the dinner menu each evening, couldn't ask for more. This was my second stay and hopefully won't be the last.

The staff very kind, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast nicely cooked and very filling with plenty of choice. Rooms were clean and tidy evening meals varied each evening with meat, fish or vegitarian option.

Shower facilities , had big step over into shower tray ( which was neither a tray or a bath) Water temperature difficult to control could be dangerously hot. Some separate seating area on the lawn as a large party of people occupied all available outside seating.

Loved it. Hotel quite like a grand hotel on smaller friendlier scale. Room was generous single with a good size single bed. Lovely modern bathroom with great shower. Location superb - a 10 minute walk from sea front and town centre. It was very close to the river which has a ford. Amazing. Breakfast waiter served at table.

May have had dinner there one evening but 6.30 - 7.30pm way too early for me. No big deal though, as was B&B basis.

The staff were very welcoming and attentive to your needs. The breakfast and dinner were outstanding. Very clean hotel, nothing was too much trouble. An 18th century building,. Beautiful garden

Due to the age of the hotel there is no lift so difficult for people with walking difficulties

Visited for the Jazz Festival as a solo traveller.. A beautiful, peaceful setting next to the Byes and a short walk into Sidmouth. The staff were super helpful , approachable, and friendly. As a solo traveller, I can sometimes feel awkward on my own, so it is great to find somewhere like this! V filling breakfast and a room overlooking the garden. Hope to be back for the next festival 😊
