Beautifully located close to Branscombe bay, which is a short walk away. The landscaped gardens are a credit to the gardener, who maintains them all on her own! Welcoming cottage feel to them, and I think they make the outside space really stunning. Inside the room was tastefully decorated. Little touches like pillow spray and the DAB radio were appreciated. We slept incredibly well in the soft down bedding and pillows. The soft mattress may not be to everyone’s liking, but we found it very comfortable. The mini bar was also a welcome addition. Eating at the Masons was a delight. The food is absolutely delicious. A must try are the mussels in mariniere sauce! Portion sizes are generous and the breakfast offers good selections for continental as well as cooked. Lastly, a huge thank you to the staff, who are very helpful, friendly & super efficient. I’m sure it wouldn’t all run as smoothly without their obvious hard work! Will most definitely return.

Atmosphere and Charm: This beautiful country pub oozes period charm and character. From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The property is maintained to an excellent high standard, making us feel pleased and comfortable immediately. Rooms: The rooms were impeccable, reflecting the same high standards as the rest of the property. They were well-appointed, clean, and exuded a cozy yet elegant vibe. Dining: The food in the restaurant for evening meals was excellent. Each dish was prepared to perfection, and the menu offered a variety of delicious options. Breakfast was equally faultless, catering to all tastes with a wide range of choices that were both tasty and satisfying. Service: The staff were incredibly welcoming and engaged with us immediately, making us feel very welcome. Their professionalism and friendliness were evident throughout our stay, contributing significantly to our positive experience.
It is a minor thing but the car parking is limited

Room was as advertised - beautiful. Well appointed, cozy and inviting. The overall ambiance of the property is charming. The pub with the fresh flowers on each table and places set was very inviting. Everything is beautifully maintained - beautiful gardens and lovely accommodations. The terrace, with all its nooks and crannies was on the hillside and a wonderful private place to enjoy a glass of wine. We appreciated the staff showing us to our room and giving us the lay of the land. They food was excellent as was the service.
Really no complaints other than it was a warm evening. It would have been nice to have fan to cool down the room. We didn't sleep well as the room was very warm

A little bit out of the way but well worth the extra driving. The Masons Arms is a gem of a place, great food selection and well prepared, amazingly large and extremely well appointed room and we could walk to the beach in 10 minutes. It has everything you would want from a hotel / pub. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Parking was a little tricky especially at busy times but this was a small price to pay for eating and sleeping here. Will absolutely stop here again,
Nothing specifically, but parking was a little tricky when we arrived. Ok it was a Friday afternoon and in the middle of luchtime in the summer and close to the beach, so should have realised, but even with this small problem, it is a fantastic place to stay.

The property and location are outstanding. The staff are very personable, well trained and appeared genuinely interested with nothing being too much trouble. We arrived unexpectedly early so enjoyed an excellent lunch in addition to a superb dinner and breakfast. The menus were imaginative and the food was of excellent quality. The room was situated away from the main hotel, up quite a few steps but the remoteness meant it was quiet and had its own garden to sit out and enjoy the views. The room itself was quite delightful and of a generous size. The bed was incredibly comfortable and there were a lot of thoughtful touches, particularly the automatic light that came on in the bathroom at night. Overall, a very impressive stay with a lasting impression that the St Austell Brewery management are hugely experienced and strive to go the extra mile to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.

We loved the location, the pub, the food and the beach. Staff were excellent too especially Joaoa the bar man. He couldn't do enough for us. All the staff were brilliant and very attentive. The garden area for guests was a fabulous place to sit, take in the view and have a relaxing drink. Such beautifully kept gardens, with plenty of chairs. Breakfast was quality, with a lot of choice.
The room was very hot but so was the weather. The price of the food was a little steep but worth it. It would be have been nice to have a light lunch/sandwich menu because if you have booked for the evening you don't necessarily want the same food for lunch. This is only a small criticism. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend to our friends and family.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The thatched cottage that we were allocated was nicely furnished and the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was large with a bath and a shower, Elemis products and white fluffy towels. Our dinner of chicken supreme and the desserts were truly delicious. We were served by a kind and friendly waitress which made the evening even more enjoyable.
The lighting in the room and in the dining room of the main building were awful. Despite there being a light behind the mirror in the bathroom my husband couldn't see well enough to have a shave and I had difficulty putting on make up. We needed to have the lights on in the main room all of the time which surely isn't helping the environment. In the dining room I could hardly read the menu, even the waitress said that it was dark. I know that this is a very old building but the lack of good light meant a couple of people missed the step in to the dining room and nearly fell. I just wish that the lighting situation could be addressed as I see that I am not the only person to mention it.

A secret treasure of a place nestled within remote Devon countryside. Staff were lovely, breakfast selection was fabulous and the room had everything you needed. A great base to explore the coastal walks into nearby Beer and Sidmouth. The room was tastefully decorated with a mini refrigerator. There was an onsite restaurant which offered a selection of evening meals which were lovely.
We didn’t realise when we booked that there was a beer festival on (our fault, we should have checked!). This did mean that parking was at a premium. Personally I was quite lucky with the parking, however I am not sure where I would have parked if I couldn’t have parked the car!

The hotel is stunning, tucked right away in the countryside in a quaint little village. The rooms lend themselves perfectly to the location and were decorated fabulously. Every little touch had been considered - even the radio being on as you enter the room upon check in. The view from the window was beautiful and felt like a proper escape from the daily hustle and bustle. We ate at the hotel both nights we stayed and both days for breakfast and the food was delicious (especially the Sunday roast). The staff were friendly and very accommodating. We will be returning and recommending to family!
The towels weren’t replaced in the bathroom during our two night stay (whilst I know it is more environmentally friendly, they just hadn’t dried enough to use the following day).

Our 10/10 stay at this place started the night we arrived. After a somewhat harrowing drive in the dark/rain/fog down a tiny road we were exhausted. The lovely man (Dan who it turns out was just filling in but did a bang up job) at the check in just took us straight to our (out of this world) room and said "Check in in the morning, no problem" and handed us a pot of cream (... this is for your coffee/tea). The room itself was huge and gorgeous with a full sitting room area, mini kitchen and a giant king sized bed that was so comfortable I would still be there if I could. The bathroom had a great shower and a giant bath tub. We stumbled across to the pub and (although it was past kitchen closing) the chef made us a lovely salmon dinner. Things just got better from there - gorgeous full breakfasts, lovely dinners, kind and caring staff EVERYWHERE. The town is tiny but stunning with plenty of interesting historical buildings and great hikes both around the area and over to the next town (charmingly called Beer). Thank you to Dan, Sophie, Connor and Hannah for making our stay so incredibly special.
Not one single thing.
