Location was good - especially the proximity to the station and the cricket ground. There were also pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance. Breakfast was excellent and so were the staff at reception and breakfast. Room was a good size and the walk in shower was superb.

One morning I was asked if I wanted my room serviced and I said no. On my return in the evening my towels had been replaced despite the fact that I had left them on the rack. No hand towel had been left. Later in the stay I asked for a toilet roll but this was not actioned. A couple of evenings I returned to the hotel after 10 o clock (which meant I was supposed to ring the bell to be let in) but the door wasn't locked. In theory that meant that anyone could have gained access to the hotel.

Great location right opposite the railway station and a short walk into town. The room was comfortable and breakfast was fine. Staff were friendly. There's a nice lounge area on the ground floor with rail related books and interesting information about the hotel's renovation.

From the bedroom we could often hear a loud noise of water rushing through pipes from other rooms. They locked the hotel front door quite early, before 9pm. The process then is to ring the bell and wait for the night porter, which didn't take too long but it's still not an ideal system on a cold evening. No black pudding with the breakfast, even though it was listed on the menu.

Extremely well located next to rail station and parking, and just 5 minutes walk from a decent Italian restaurant. This is a historic railway hotel from the early days of Victorian railway-building, which has been pleasantly refurbished. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was lovely.

The bedroom included a large writing desk, but no wardrobe. There were just 4 wire coathangers. A smaller desk and better hanging space, please, plus coat hooks on the door. The hotel has various images etc relating to its GWR ancestry. (Bizarrely, there is also a picture of a "Mallard" A4 type built in Doncaster, which seems totally irrelevant.) More could be made of this. For example the bedrooms are named on some sort of woodland or nature theme. I think they are seriously missing a trick in not naming them Brunel, Gooch, Armstrong, Dean, Churchward, Collett. Hawksworth etc etc with info about such great personalities.

Breakfast was great, the full english was large and tasty and came out quickly. Staff were welcoming. The bedroom was small and basic but comfy with a large shower, coffee/tea making and biscuits/water provided. The hotel has lovely high ceilings and is super convenient next to the train station and a few minutes walk to some good restaurants.

Its a bit dated in terms of decor but to be expected with the price so we weren't worried. The rooms have names not numbers which makes it a little more challenging to find your room - but again not complaining really as it's quite querky! The entrance is very strange if you arrive by car, you almost have to walk across the grass from the car park and the hotel was in darkness so we weren't sure if we had got the right place.

The renovated building is lovely and literally opposite the train station, super convenient if you are travelling by train, or a short walk into the town centre. The room was huge, the bathroom was large, and there were some very nice touches in the room. The desk area was great if you needed to work during your stay there. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we liked the philanthropic aspect of the property.

The parking was challenging, there isn’t really enough space for the size of the property. While there were many nice touches, there were many that were annoying - a huge room but the bed could have been bigger, no convenient access to power sockets near the bed (although the desk set up was great), the bathroom was pretty impractical with nowhere big enough to hang towels or anything else, two crappy quality coat hangers on a hook in the bedroom and nowhere else to hang clothes….it needs some ironing out to really get this right. When they do, it could be fabulous. The dining room and the way they do things could also do with some improvement.

Lovely old world charm in a fantastic location with easy access to the town centre. Lovely garden. The rooms were very spacious - a little hot but we had warm weather and a fan was provided. Good bathroom facilities with usual toiletries provided. Decent toilet roll (most important ) Very friendly and helpful staff. Warm and very efficient welcome from Lucy, thank you. Sam was a brilliant night Porter, again extremely friendly and helpful and the same has to be said of May, who looked after us at breakfast and checkout. These members of staff really made our stay special. The breakfast was absolutely amazing! All in all one of our best stays anywhere and I would certainly recommend a visit if you’re in the area. I’d have no hesitation in coming back and certainly intend to do so

Absolutely spot on for location, right opposite the exit of Taunton railway station. Beautiful building, nice to see some tradition in a hotel. Greeted as soon as walked in through the door by the receptionist. Fast check in. The room is comfortable, I had a view of the railway station. Very comfortable bed and pillows. I slept very well and didn't hear anything until the stirring noises associated with breakfast calling.Filter coffee and tea. Bathroom was spotless, shower - brilliant. Spacious bedroom with a nook area (desk, chair and electric sockets)so if you wanted to work you could do so . Breakfast, I have an intolerance to Gluten. And in no way am I going to dis the hotel, by now I should know to message the hotel prior to arrival. But, the staff accommodated me extremely well. Checked the list of Ingredients and conjured up a fantastic breakfast. I would definitely return to this hotel, service, attitude and professionalism towards the client was top notch.

Old original building with modern facilities ! Breakfast selection excellent.

Don’t sell big bottle wine only midget bottle! Room coffee facilities were disappointing that coffee jug only for one person not for two ! Kettle doesn’t fit in the sink to refill water! Left sign on the door to have room clean and went out whole day and came back to find room not done at all. Had to go reception to restock coffee and fresh towels. Lastly dinning room table so sticky like never clean but who ever painted it didn’t do it professionally done !

Really lovely property, characteristic, comfortable and conveniently located opposite the station! Nice garden area and car park.

There was nothing to dislike! Apart from bit close to the road so be careful! The room was really nice and wonderful my dog was able to stay with me! Quiet, lovely chesterfields in the waiting area. Breakfast was ok. Property ran out of milk only criticism and no brown bread! Staff were helpful and friendly. Really pleasant stay! Conveniently located. Great car park and station opposite. Really lovely hotel. Room was nice and clean. Could’ve done with more loo roll in room!

Lovely hotel and nice room in a quiet location. Friendly staff too! The location was perfect! It is directly opposite the train station and also ideal if you have a car as it's free parking! The castle, museums, the park and shops are a short walk away and everything else is nearby too including the Brewhouse theatre and arts centre. Great place! If i return to Taunton i hope stay here!

The only thing i can think of that was a down side is no chair in the room i stayed in. If you wanted to sit and watch tv for a while you had the bed only. However, it wasn't really too much of an issue because i didn't go there to watch tv! I prefer to do that if i'm at home. I'm just trying to think of something that was a down side.
