My wife and I were so happy with our room, we had a terrible journey and were able to get our key very quickly. The property is really nicely decorated and our room was amazing. We had kindly been upgraded and had what I assume is a family room so had loads of space. The room was beautifully warm and inviting. The bed was amazing and I’m a fussy sleeper. The quality of bed linen and towels was first glass and personally these are the touches that make for a great stay. The room was really quiet, we were at the back of the property however the road at the front was very quiet. We were 2 minutes from the town and 30 seconds from a Sainsbury’s. You preorder breakfast which is great as we like to get up and go asap. The quality of breakfast was great - we stayed for 3 nights and had 3 great breakfasts. The whole family pitch in which is great and they were all polite and helpful.

What didn’t we like ? That’s easy ! Having to come home …..

Location, comfort, breakfast, cosy and style. Lovely place to stay. Would recommend for lots of reasons!! Great breakfast (you have to preorder the night before)! Lovely girl served us breakfast. Room was nice and cosy and clean. Good shower and bathroom. Thick towels. Really comfy bed with quality bedding. Location was fab in the heart of Windermere. Just a few minutes walk from the main streets. Parking (it’s tight so you do have to be considerate of each other). Would definitely stay again.

Not really something to dislike but it’s a shame we didn’t see any member of staff at all on check in day and encountered our first and only member of staff at breakfast the next morning. Of whom I should add was very friendly. So it all seemed a little impersonal. On the morning of checkout there were workmen in from early just outside our room. On trying to get ready the electrics went off for a short time which then made us a little unsure as to wether it was going to keep happening (I was drying my hair at the time).

We absolutely loved our stay. From before we arrived the team were providing updates and information about our stay, recommendations and helpful information. Arrival and check in is super easy as is ordering breakfast. The room was perfect and as we had a birthday Bonnie and the team had provided some decorations and birthday touches which made it so so special. The breakfast was lovely and staff super friendly. We have been coming to the lakes for a few years and it was one of the best and most smooth stays we’ve had. Also amazing for everything you need in Windermere! Extremely central and easy to walk to anything

Nothing it was all amazing!

It’s well located and is highly maintained to an excellent standard. The rooms are spacious and modern, and the guest house is furnished with some amazing artefacts. Bonnie and the team couldn’t do enough for us prior to our stay, and we met Nicola during our stay who was just as friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and I loved the fact you ordered it the night before so it was freshly cooked to your table in the morning.

It’s not so much a dislike, but be aware there’s a food distribution centre next door and they start work very early. It was a bit noisy but maybe we heard it more as we had our window open due to the warm weather.

Car parking's a bit tight but then so is most places in the lakes and they do provide 7x spaces

From the moment we booked Holly lodge, the experience was great. The hosts Bonnie and Ian were friendly, helpful with great communication. Holy lodge itself exceeded all expectations. Kirsty our host met us on arrival and was very friendly and welcoming and our 3 year old was delighted. The family room was perfect, decorated nicely and plenty of space for our family. Breakfast was delicious, and our daughter was delighted to have her own Mickey mouse napkins, unicorn cup and smiley face toast. Would recommend Holly Lodge to anyone visiting the lake District, and will definitely be back.

Nothing 😊

Everything was perfect! The location was great for us, close to train station and just 20-30 min walk from Bowness (closer if you take the bus) and close to trails we wanted to do and to buses that take you to Grasmere/Ambleside etc. We spend 4 days hiking around and it was perfectly located. Breakfast was really complete and delicious with different options to choose. Room was spacious, clean and luminous with everything you could need. The staff was fantastic, the owners sent us detailed information on restaurants and trails around before the stay that was really useful and appreciated. I travelled with my sister and just to say that we will choose the same place to stay if we come back to the lakes.

Everything was perfect, nothing to complaint.

The location was excellent- short walk away from some lovely resturants. We liked the idea of self check in. The room was exceptionally clean.

The times for breakfast were a little late for our liking. We would have liked an earlier option so we could get out and about exploring the lakes for most of the day. No solely vegan option for breakfast, only vegetarian. The blind in our room was noisy and clattering when the window was open, which meant we had to close the window on what was a very hot night. The mattress was a bit soft for one of us.

My husband and I are visiting family in the UK ( we live in Australia) and I wanted to find a good value, nice place to stay in the Lake District. I read the reviews of Holly Lodge and it sounded great. I certainly agree with those reviews. From the communication before we arrived right up to leaving our stay was fantastic. Really comfortable room, lovely sitting room available to relax in. Breakfast choice was great and really tasty. The owners were lovely people. The property is right in the centre of Windermere, with shops, pubs and restaurants ( even a laundrette) right on the doorstep. The lake is about a 1 mile walk downhill. We enjoyed the stroll down and up from the Lake. Also nice to have use of the leisure centre. It’s a community type facility, so there are children’s swim lessons in the pool, but I thought it was nice to see the facility used by the community. It was great to be able to warm up in the sauna and steam room and the gym was very well equipped. It was a nice added extra.

There was nothing not to like

This is a very well located boutique hotel, in the centre of Windermere. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and the en suite bathroom was spotless. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. The huge bath sheets were fluffy. On site parking was a big plus and we enjoyed a stroll into Bowness, where there are lots of eateries to chose from. We were upgraded to a super king room.The bed was very comfortable. We also enjoyed a trip to the leisure club, which is a perk of the stay. The breakfast needs to be ordered the night before and was delicious.

Our room was on the second floor and the second set of stairs was very steep. If you have mobility issues, choose a room on the first floor. If you are visiting the leisure club, you have to pay £2.50 each for a large towel, unless you take your own. But it is worth a visit.
