Welcoming and cosy. Very friendly staff and excellent food. Chef went above and beyond to cater for us and our last minute dietary requirements. Lovely comfortable bed. Beautiful location.

Room was a bit cold and fresh flowers were partly dead in stale water. Bathroom tiles had rather tired grout. Car park entrance a bit tight!

Beautiful old Inn with a lovely cosy warm bar area and great choice of beers and ales on tap. Lovely roaring log burner as you walk into main bar. Room was huge with a very comfortable bed and the tea tray was well stocked. The room was furnished very well with great quality black out curtains. Lovely and clean room. 🙂 The shower in the bathroom had a powerful rain forest shower head which was an absolute delight. Dinner was good quality and very tasty. We both had steak and really enjoyed it. I loved the blue cheese sauce which accompanied my steak. The full English Breakfast was also very tasty and served piping hot 😋. Owners and staff are lovely and make you feel very welcome. I love that they accept dogs and our dog had a fab time. We will definitely be back.

Small signs of damp in bathroom ceiling but I do appreciate it's a very old building. I wouldn't say i didn't like it. I feel it just needs to be rectified. My shower in the early evening was luke warm when I really needed a hot shower but I know the place was busy with all rooms full so maybe everyone had showers before me and drained the hot water tank. In the morning it was lovely and hot.

The staff were all excellent, very friendly, welcoming and attentive. Great atmosphere. Super food. Bedroom was comfortable - super bed size and comfortable mattress ! Great shower and water was perfect. We appreciated the hot temperature and pressure of the water- not always so everywhere!

Not so much ' didnt like ', rather more small suggestions to improve the experience.... There was only one bedside light in our room. Dining room and table settings were a little cheerless. A single fresh flower in a bud vase would have made such a positive differennce ?? Occasional vase of fresh flowers in the public space. Need not be extravagant....

Location and food were excellent, very friendly welcome, cooked breakfast was excellent! Will visit again

Not that I didn't like it, i would just say don't expect a luxury room and bathroom, but more that adequate for anyone's needs.

From the moment we arrived all the staff made us feel very welcome ,and went out of their way to make our stay extra special . Our room was lovely with a huge four poster bed ,and a dressing room .The en suite bathroom was large ,and the shower a joy to use with lots of pressure /hot water .Our days started very well with excellant breakfast choices including some of the nicest bacon ,and sausages we've had in a long time . In the evenings we enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar ,and ate stunning food . A relaxing weekend ,and we can't wait to return

The location and character of the property was outstanding, the staff were very pleasant and the food was excellent! The room had a large bathroom with walk in robe. The inclusion of a range of quality toiletries was a nice addition.

Given that the room was marketed as a deluxe room, it was a bit tired and there was paint patching on the walls. As a person with allergies, more attention to ensuring that the room was as dust free as possible would have helped. The area under the bed has a divan and you could see visible dust all around it. One other small thing is that there were limited wine options by the glass and the overall cellar selections could have better matched the excellent quality of the food.

Evening meal was absolutely delicious and very high quality. Coeliac requirement was taken very seriously and catered for. Breakfast was a real treat with many options available and plenty to eat. The room was wonderfully cosy with a very comfortable bed, tea and coffee making in the room including a sweet treat! Felt very relaxed in the bar and resturant and locals very friendly. Perfect location for walking on Exmoore. The owner was absolutely 1st class! Very smiley, friendly and chatty. Made you feel valued and welcome. Absolutely loved it!

A huge thank you to The Royal Oak team, Jane, George, Oliver and Steve (plus all those behind the scenes). From the moment we entered the Royal Oak for our 2 night stay, we were treated exceptionally well. The location and character of the property, with the added bonus of the amazing staff, make it an excellent choice to stay. You feel valued and welcome. Despite being above the bar, it was very quiet large and it was well stocked with everything we needed. The food was extremely tasty, well prepared, varied and reasonably priced. Jane, the owner, could not be more helpful. We will be back in the near future.

Absolutely nothing. We had a wonderful time over the last 2 days.

Our room was a really good size with a well appointed bathroom and traditionally furnished. Lovely village setting in the centre of Exmoor. Our evening meal was excellent and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

Breakfast was good but it was disappointing that instead of serving freshly brewed coffee, coffee bags were used which are a poor substitute. Lovely hotel but we thought it was expensive for a small, rural pub/hotel and not great value for money compared to other hotels where we have stayed.

Location is fantastic; one of the nicest Exmoor villages and very quiet. Cottage is very well-equipped and beautifully decorated. Very spacious house. Food in the pub was good; don’t forget to book a table!

Contrary to what is mentioned on booking.com, breakfast is never included in this self-catered cottage. You do get a very nice basket with bread, butter, eggs, bacon etc. on your arrival. Checkout was a bit unclear (pub was closed at that time of day) but all sorted out.
