The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk from the Minster which is ideal for access. The food, staff and ambience of the restaurant were excellent. The bed is large. The TV screen is very large.
Paying £15 per day for parking adds to the cost of the room. The room had no windows and the room felt very claustrophobic. The sink in the bathroom is small. There are no drawers in the room to store clothes. There is no shelf in the shower for soap, shampoo and conditioner, although there is a shampoo dispenser on the wall. We were asked when we booked if this was a special occasion which we stated it was our anniversary. Nothing extra special was provided. The WIFI did not work in our room.

What a great treat, a last minute booking but a great choice. My welcome was first class, my room comfortable and well appointed. An old listed building, nice friendly bar and good choice of food. Breakfast was freshly cooked and table service. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
My only gripe would be having to pay for parking there.

The whole experience was great The hotel is really lovely Other reviews said their room was small - ours was small but there was ample room - however I did book the smallest room so definitely no complaints from us The room was lovely, as was the bathroom too The bar & restaurant were great too food was excellent For me personally the staff made the visit exceptional Every one of them was so friendly helpful & alwYs happy/ smiling So thank you Churchill hotel for making our stay wonderful I can’t wait to go back!!!
As others stated hotel car park is small and access a little awkward to turn into I agree but it was totally fine We had to pay for parking but left the car almost 24 hours - it would have cost more than that in an NCP/ other car park so this is not a criticism Ut was good to stay so close to the centre of York

Friendly staff who took a food intolerance very seriously and helped provide a lovely meal. The food overall was excellent and beautifully presented. No buffet breakfast but flexible menu and quick service. Décor fresh and quirky.
The double room was tiny and involved a lot of sideling. Fortunately neither of us is overweight, otherwise a shower in the tiny shower would have been tricky. Only room for one in the small "bathroom" and little space to get around the bed to access the kettle. Hotel has no formal lounge for guests to recover from claustrophobia. No foot mats at front door to prevent muddy feet on carpets.

Exceptional customer service from the moment we checked in which continued throughout our stay. All staff were friendly, down to earth and helpful in every aspect. Perfect location less than 10 minutes walk to York Minster. The interior decoration throughout the hotel is to a very high standard with a tasteful mix of traditional and contemporary design. We dined in the restaurant on New Years Eve and offered choice from two menus both very reasonably priced with a range of dishes to choose from. Food absolutely delicious far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return to this little gem of a hotel.
We thought parking at £15 per night was rather excessive in particular when paying £190 per night for a small double room.

Everything. This was our first trip to York. The location, around 10 minutes from York centre and walking distance from train station - ideal. The hotel, superb. The decoration throughout was amazing. Pictures on the website do not do it justice. The history of the hotel as well, how it became to be called The Churchill. All the staff couldn't do enough for you - very attentive, happy. Nothing was too much trouble. The attention to detail within the hotel and its staff - should be a 5 star. My husband and I absolutely loved this hotel and we didn't want to leave. We will be back and we will be staying at The Churchill (provided they have room for us). Thank you everyone.
Nothing not to like. If anything, we wished we could have had a longer stay. There was still a lot for us to try at the hotel. We missed enjoying a meal in the pods in the garden - too busy exploring York.

the locality of the hotel to the city. The welcome, staff very polite and attentive and give you a free map to get you around the city . We booked a double room it was absolutely fine for the 2 of us , on arrival we thought the bed was rather small as we are both just under 6 ft and average size but we were pleasantly surprised it was fine, very comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities and a nice touch with a kit kat on arrival. Bathroom nice size but the shower well that was a problem I don't like over head showers so trying to hold the hand held one and get washed at the same time proved to be challenging the water went everywhere walls floor etc, so then had to spend 10 minutes cleaning it up. Anyway all that said it a lovely hotel we will definitely stay again and we have recommended it to our daughter and her husband who visits york every year.
The payment for the car park. I appreciate car parking in york is troublesome as there didn't seem to be much but £18 per night for a hotel that has a car park baffled me, I booked this hotel purposely as on booking.com it said with parking nowhere in the advert did it mention parking at extra cost. Anyway we know for future and it hasn't put us off from staying again. .

Aesthetically pleasing building and garden. Set back from the road and has parking. The entrance is via a huge door and is very impressive. Everything is decorated to a high standard and the igloos and lighting in the garden were amazing. We ate in the one of the pods on the second evening and usually we always go into the city but the ambiance in the hotel was so good we stayed in. 10 minutes walk into the city. Real coffee bags and KitKats were a nice touch. Lots of Winston Churchill memorabilia and art work everywhere and it looks sophisticated and had a modern design.
We missed the entrance to the property first time. Probably the sat nav’s fault as it took us to the side gate. Our room was close to the central heating boiler and was a bit noisy. The shower takes a good 10 minutes to warm up properly.
