Phong Nha is more expensive since than other areas of Vietnam

I’ve been living in Vietnam for 5 years and this is easily one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. Everything is extremely well organized making the stay very comfortable. All of the staff were super friendly and informative and helped with any questions or bookings we had. This also made easier by the WhatsApp group. We ate many times at the restaurant and all food and drinks were delicious. The rooms and the surroundings were also stunning and great we could use the facilities at the other accommodation in phòng nhà town. It was my family’s highlight of the trip and I would 100% stay here again.

Fantastic friendly staff that could easily swap in and out of English and Vietnamese to suit us perfectly and help organise our activities. The farmstay itself offers surprisingly resort like facilities but without losing its charm as a homestay of sorts and with respect to the local way of life. The location is relatively easy to access from Saigon by plane and a 30 minute taxi and is totally worth it to experience the stunning natural beauty of traditional Vietnamese countryside with the bonus of its many cave systems which are well worth visiting. One bonus is that the caves are state operated and therefore there are no dodgy agents pushing for your business which is a welcome relief from other touristy areas of the country. If you’re a biker then rent yourself one of Ben's XR150s and enjoy some of the best riding outside of the far North. Ben is a great guy and you can see how much his community means to him with his various community based projects and even showing guests around the local village early in the morning. Get to Phong Nha if you can as it still provides many ‘real Vietnam experiences if yesteryear’. Get yourself a bicycle and ride through the rice crops to ‘The pub with cold beer’ with their top class grilled chicken, a swimming pool and of course cold beer to cool you off!

Every member of staff there is absolutely fantastic, from the owners to the receptionists, you feel like family there. So helpful and knowledgeable with many stories to share. Cosy fires every evening, perfect to sit by and enjoy a beer or two, and talk to the other guests or Ben and his family and friends. The food was really tasty, one night they had a special dish of Butter Chicken curry and it was the best meal I’ve had in a while. And their gravy with the pies is 10/10 it’s a must-try. You can really learn about the village from everyone, especially on the free 7am morning walking tour, or on a sunset safari in a jeep for a low fee. Bicycles for free, really nice cycle to attractions such as the duck stop. Scooters available to rent. One shuttle to their other property/main town in the morning 10am and then one back at 16:45 which was helpful, or they will arrange during the day for 100/200. We had a pet gecko in our bathroom the entire stay, we called him Steve, we will miss him dearly.

Bed was not the best

For my family this was 100% our favourite place to stay in Vietnam. Out of Phong Nha town by about 10km amongst the paddy fields. Owned by an Aussie & his local wife, this place is way more than just a hotel. All the staff are just lovely, speak good English & help you plan your days out. Great atmosphere in dining area with views over paddy fields, good variety of dining options, nice pool. Pool table was fun, sometimes movies put on. We used the free bicycles to cycle through countryside into town. Our BEST day out was hiring experienced local motorbike riders through the hotel to do the National Park loop to see Paradise Cave & Dark cave, amazing! Podcasts available with local history which are v interesting.

Nothing. We were sad to leave

From the word Farmstay, I expected pretty basic rooms but these exceeded my expectations. The room was lovely. Nice big shower/bathroom & large comfy bed. Lots of outdoor space for meals and the setting was legitimately in farmlands. I loved being able to borrow mountain bikes to cruise around-that was a highlight for me. Thank you. Sunday roast night was a treat and I enjoyed that vegan meal very much.

Location was a bit farther out of town than I thought. Even though reviews mentioned this I didn’t realize how far it was until I got there. Also, as far as vegan, I mentioned that in my booking but there were very limited options, esp since it’s so far off the beaten path. A little non dairy milk would go a long way with the free breakfast.

Such great atmosphere! Hotel is super cosy and colourful, they have an amazing SAUNA you can use when the weather is a bit more chilly. Food is amazing, a lot of locally grown veggies, staff is super helpful and friendly in every way from suggesting activities to organising it. Don’t miss out on the botanical gardens and waterfall, it was total highlight for us. Absolutely recommend.

Our room was located near the kitchen so you could smell everything that was being cooked 😀 Not a big deal, but if you’re sensitive to smell ask for a room that’s further away. Also our room was a bit humid and you could feel it on the sheets, it wasn’t a problem for us because we were only staying for one night, but I bet if you’d ask for fresh sheets they’d be happy to change them.

Our family of 4, with two children aged 7 and 9, had a wonderful stay at Phong Nha Farmstay! The staff were super friendly, even playing pool with the kids. The location is rural, quiet and looking on to rice paddies with cows regularly walking by :) - a great place to switch off for a bit. We loved the day trips out both in the rain (it's monsoon now!) and in the sun.... the kids loved the 'duck massage and mountain top swing! Personally I loved going on motorbike through mountainous countryside to visit the botanical gardens and paradise cave. We hired an 'easy driver' for me and my son, and my husband hired a motorbike and we went on some great adventures! Definitely recommend this place and would love to return next year!

Excellent location in a wonderful green garden in rural area. We had a very spacious, luxurious and comfortable room with two bathrooms. There are many hammocks and seats to relax in, and they have a beautiful sunset view from the garden. Free bikes although I had some technical difficulties with mine - it broke along the way, but the staff was so nice to pick us up. The food in the restaurant is a little more expensive than Vietnam standard I would say, but still well priced and worth it - very delicious! It was very clean and the staff was lovely. They have a podcast that tells you all about the history of the surrounding area and they provide you with excellent information on your options. I highly recommend to add this to your Vietnam itinerary, stay for a few days and explore the National park with the Phong Nha easy riders (=motorbike taxi)! The caves in the area are stunning!

While we were there, the pool had turned green because of previous rains. They started fixing the chemicals on our last day, but of course getting the pool clear again will take a couple days- we understand that. Breakfast is made to order, which is nice, but only one drink is included so you’ll have to choose between water, juice, milk or coffee/tea. It would be nice if you could just get some water with your coffee. You can order extras, but it will be added to the bill. It’s not a lot of course, but it’s just the principle here. All in all, these are only small things and there is really not a lot to complain about.

We really enjoyed the property. It had such a nice feel around the pool, relaxing area. Great breakfast with a side of fresh fruit each morning. The food is incredible here. We ate all our meals here and wasn’t bored of the menu. We especially liked the chefs table meal. A great way to try local Vietnamese cuisine. Along with the menu they also have specials including a roast dinner on Sundays! Happy hour was amazing, but one get one free on huge draught beers. We loved that! We loved the huge filter water bottle that was filled every day in our room and water always available at the bar for 40,000 per day to reduce to the use of plastic bottles. Ben was so knowledgeable about the area and plenty of tours were available to book with him. We really enjoyed our stay and loved the caves in the area. This was one of our highlights during our stay. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. We watched some incredible sunsets here too.
