My wife and myself booked 2 nights accommodation at the Mercure as it was very centralised to Bimbadgen Estate for the Take That concert we were attending. The rooms were the highest quality and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. During our stay we also did some wine tasting at DeBortoli's Hunter Valley, we went to the Hunter Valley Chocolate and Fudge factory, had dinner at Harrigans Pub and attended the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas lights. The furthest we travelled from our location was only a 10 minute drive. It has beautiful manicured lawns and gardens and is the perfect location for a weekend getaway, corporate stay or to host an event

The worst thing was potentially spider webs when we went on a walk from the Mercure to Hunter Valley gardens at night. There are some big spider webs and spiders if you try cutting through the trees and bush. Other than that everything was very good

You can’t beat the location - right next to the village and the Hunter valley Gardens for the Christmas lights - we just walked there. Staff were great and my early check in request was available. I liked the bed but my husband didn’t like the pillows and had a poor sleep. Both our room and my inlaws next door had water leak out of the shower when both husbands used the rain shower head and it went all over the floor. But minor inconvenience really - we’ve stayed before and we’ll stay again. And I would recommend to anyone else.

The shower water running all over the floor. The soft pillows - firmer would be great. We didn’t have time to request any others though as at a wedding and got back late.

The location, the facilities, the food, the room. Everything was perfect. The bath was the best. I booked the specific room type to get the bath. It’s set into the floor & there is a large skylight above it. It felt so luxurious just sitting in the bath- which is huge & even had space for my feet to sit. There are numerous wineries & a whiskey distillery around the area, restaurants & close to Cessnock if you need to go into town for anything. The restaurant was great, the food was beautiful & our waiter was very professional with a sense of humour. We would definitely stay here again, probably one of my favourite places to have stayed. Staff were friendly & there’s a library you can sit in & have a drink & while away some time.

There’s nothing I didn’t like

Lovely atmosphere, very chilled with an upmarket feel. Spacious rooms with very comfortable beds and fantastic air conditioning. Nice to have fridge kettle and toaster in room. Food in restaurant was great and beautifully presented, reasonable price too.

Service in bar area was a little slow. Maybe a bit understaffed. Need more suitable eating tables in bar area. Only seemed to be one at comfortable height. Rooms a little bit dated could do with at least a lick of paint on the woodwork, and fridge needed a good defrost.

Really love the activities like the pool and spa options as well as the lounge and pool table. Also heard there was a sauna but didn't have time to try it. Location is so beautiful and convenient, we found it easy to travel to most places because the hotel was so close.

I wish the breakfast was included! Or at least slightly elevated. $35 for what was provided wasn't the greatest value for money. Also please mention the additional service charge for room service! We weren't aware when we ordered.

The room was clean and smelt really fresh on entering. It was spacious. The breakfast was presented very nicely but very generic as far as variety of the food. The location was perfect.

I felt the lack of a second chair at the lovely desk. I had to bring an outdoor chair into the room to sit with my mum at the table. It would have been nice to have a male staff member/porter or an elevator to take our luggage up the stairs to the second level. Next time I will request ground floor.

An excellent location in the middle of the Hunter Valley, close to many attractions. The room was clean, modern and spacious with a lounge room and nice hedged courtyard, which we used to enjoy our breakfast. The bathroom was spacious with rain shower and a sunken bath tub, with a skylight above to look at the stars or clouds, which was a lovely bonus. We also used the onsite pool and spa, which was great on a hot afternoon. There is an onsite restaurant but we didn't dine there.

Before we arrived we requested a microwave and toaster be in the room. When we arrived it was not in the room. So I rang room service straight away and they brought us these items.

It's a great layout in a lovely setting. The staff were amazingly kind and generous. The decor was amazing, as was the food and beverages. It's so close to everything we wanted to see and do. The pool is fantastic, and the grounds are gorgeous. As great as everything was -- and it was! -- I'd come back to this place because of the staff and their great manner.

Three people in one room sharing two plates and two bowls. I appreciate we would've been given more had we asked for them, but we shouldn't have to ask for them. The same with the robes. The amount of items should match the number of guests, prior to the guests arrival.

Hotel was wonderful and location to Gardens was great.

I left my alcohol in room by mistake and when I returned to hotel I found some staff very unhelpful. Eventually someone helped me with this and the cleaner who cleaned my room returned my alcohol to me even though it was not in it's bag. I am not sure it would have been returned had I not returned to my room. Not a word was said by the cleaner to me making me believe she would have kept my alcohol haf I not returned and questioned where my alcohol was.

The staff were super friendly, and the location was perfect for my stay. The hotel had its own restaurant, there also was a bar and coffee, which was a bonus. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. There was plenty of parking on site. Very clean and tidy.

The room needs a little upgrading. Air conditioning needs fixing, and blankets would be great for those cold nights. The breakfast bar wasn't to my expectation considering what you pay. They should consider updating the menu, adding more varieties for vegetarians.
