The hotel is conveniently located on a beautiful leafy street lined with old villas and houses. It's close to the city centre and easy to access by bus or tram. The hotel itself, a converted Villa, is quiet and peaceful with a beautiful mature garden. There are nice coffee shops, restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance. Very convenient. I especially loved my comfortable bed with superbly starched crispy white sheets, such luxury! There were nice touches, books scattered around the place (some very interesting).

I suspect the look the interior designer of Villa Achenbach was going for was a turn of the century English Gentleman's Club, but the villa was so dimly lit, I kept expecting Harry Potter and an array of ghosts to appear at any moment! It felt as if I'd entered the world of Hogwarts. I think it would have been nice if the price (on the $$$ side) had included even a simple continental breakfast (you could still charge for the more elaborate breakfast). On my last morning when I was checking out, I asked if I could get a coffee somewhere and I was given directions to a coffee shop in the neighbourhood - where I went - in pouring rain. I think it would have been nice to, at the very least, offer me a cup of coffee!

Nestled in a quiet part of town, this hotel offers a relaxing retreat while still being conveniently close to many excellent dining options. Although it’s only a 20-25 minute walk to the city center, the hotel provides public transport passes, making it easy to get around. The interior design is beautifully crafted, with thoughtful details that add charm and elegance and a lot of plants. Our room was well-appointed, featuring a plush bed and a modern rain shower, ensuring both comfort and convenience. The staff stood out with their warm, attentive, and friendly service, making us feel truly welcome throughout our stay.

Everything about the stay was delightful; while the curtains could be a bit thicker and the TV interface more user-friendly, these were minor details that didn’t diminish an otherwise exceptional experience.

Friendly helpful staff (especially Zino, who helped with parking and the collection of flowers at the hotel by a friend - nothing was too much for this gent, he was oustanding)! Spotlessly clean room (Junior suite) comfortable four-post bed, great bath room. Really liked the hotel style, funiture and ambience. Breakfast was nice (although a little expensive) with again, really friendly helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again!

Limited on-site parking. Parking on the street is free but was very busy when we stayed. Don't let this put you off though!

Fabulous boutique hotel on a lovely side street with easy access to the city centre. Beautifully renovated and gorgeously decorated, there is a real feeling of opulence here. A fabulous breakfast with great attention to detail is taken in the most sumptuous rooms. In the evening, we just sat downstairs for a drink and to enjoy the calm and quiet of the place. Staff were extremely helpful. We were supplied with tickets for free use of the trams into the city. We were also directed to an Italian restaurant a short walk away, which was outstanding. We were able to park our car on site. Can't recommend here highly enough.

Having to leave after just one night...

The Villa Achenbach is a beautiful historic boutique hotel, family-run and warmly welcoming. Its location on a leafy, quiet street is less than five minutes’ walk to tram stops, restaurants and shops. Staff were very helpful, and I appreciated the 24- hour front desk presence. My room overlooking the back garden was comfortably furnished, with a desk and bright modern bathroom. The hotel is maintained meticulously. I did not have time to stay for breakfast but I could see from the luxuriously furnished salon that it would be served in style.

There is no elevator, but staff readily volunteered to carry my bags up the grand staircase. They also explained the difficulty of incorporating an elevator in this heritage property. Like other such properties, the Achenbach must make efficient use of space, and my room had a single-sized bed, which some guests might find small. (As a solo traveller, I was quite content with this, and it left more floor space).

Best hotel I have ever stayed. The architecture of the building is very beautiful and welcoming. Inside of the building makes you feel you are walking around Gryffindor common room at Hogwarts. Great interiors and decorations. Room was perfectly clean,cozy and the mattress was quite comfortable. Young lady at the reception was very kind. She offered me some coffee before I leave the hotel. Looking forward to stay there again.

Everything was great

It's beautifully decorated if you're attracted to victorian styles, very cared for and clean, the maintenance is pristine, quiet, low warm lights for someone that might find bright lights unpleasant or overstimulating. Surprisingly both rooms we stayed at had a modern bathroom/bath.

I wish the option for Bathtub was clearer on their booking options, however the staff was able to accomodate the most posible to my wishes. Thanks!

This place was one of my favorite places Iv'e stayed. The mansion was so beautiful and my room was perfect and filled with daylight-views of trees and the beautiful neighborhood outside of my window. The breakfast was top-notch and served in a gorgeous estately room downstairs overlooking a garden and serene backyard. The staff served a wonderful gin from the beautiful bar area adjacent to the lobby. The lobby attendant, who also accmodated persons in the bar area, talked with me personally about the gin and drinks they had available to serve. So nice. I enjoyed 2 nightcaps in the handsome bar area in the evening before returning upstairs to bed. The hotel is walking distance to retail areas. A free shuttle card is provided to take the rail during your stay if you prefer not to walk. The rail can be caught at the end of the street and runs very frequently.

Beautiful property, with beautiful rooms. Great staff going out of their way to help guests. Wonderful breakfast as well as a wonderfully bright and stylish breakfast area. Beautiful garden where one can have drinks at any time during the day, and wind down. Trams are nearby, uber is well serviced in the hotel area as well. Quiet neighbourhood. Will definitely come back here if we need to be in Düsseldorf again!

As a small hotel, service winds down late evening. Not a real point of dislike, rather something to keep into account. Nevertheless, staff very kindly agreed to wait up for our late arrival, the first night in. Impeccable service. Situated in a quiet area, so not in walking distance of places of interest -- but by any means, not far from them either. Uber works fine, and we got everywhere we wanted in 15 mins tops.

It's like travelling to the Past, and living in the interiors of THAT time, smelling Old Money :) Very interesting experience! Breakfast is served in a super fancy room overlooking interior garden. Jazz is playing. Feels so good! And the buffet breakfast itself is very good.

It would be wrong to expect to have en elevator in such an old villa, but it's just a good thing to consider - don't bring heavy luggage with you :)
