Absolutely incredible stay! I visited as a solo traveler and the inn was very accommodating - they reached out shortly after booking to inquire about transportation needs for arrival/departure as well as and dietary restrictions and requests for meal times. I used the shuttle service from Chōkoku-no-Mori Station and was picked up promptly! I also had a welcome drink during check-in with a view of the mountains, then was led to my room where he showed me how to use the onsen and additional amenities. The front desk even came back to my room with my drink topped off! The room was beautiful and the onsen was the star of the show - it was already filled up and hot when I arrived to my room and I loved having the chance to take a long soak before changing into the complimentary yakuta robe and tabi socks before dinner. The meals were excellent and very traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine with multiple courses in your own private dining room. The server was the same person who picked me up from the station, checked me into the inn, and showed me my room. He did an excellent job of explaining each course and answering my many questions about each delicacy I was trying. Alcohol like sake/beer/wine/etc. is an extra charge but reasonably priced. The Japanese breakfast was delicious! The beds were comfortable, the service from the front desk was impeccable, and other than the few guests I overheard in the room next to me during meals, I would've assumed I was the only guest there. The mountain view from my room was excellent and my only complaint is that wish that I'd stayed another night! All in all, I can't wait to visit again!!!
Nothing - everything was excellent!

The meals were amazing, every single meal exceeded our expectation. Staff spoke really good English and explained all the ingredients in the meals. The room was really spacious and the stone spa was wonderful. The view from the hotel reception and our room is amazing - full of greens, really calming. A bus stop was nearby and staff offered to drop us off at the nearest train station as well which was really convenient. However, a tip is to arrange pick up service with staff before arrival - they offer pick up from Chokokunomori station. If not arranged, a taxi is also easy if you call it with a local taxi app or take a bus.

The room was gorgeous and specious. We had such a beautiful view to the mountains and a lovely balcony, but the best part was the private onsen in the room. It overlooked the mountains and was specious enough that too people could relax in it. The kaiseki dinner was very generous and delicious. Breakfast was Japanese style, meaning fish and miso soup (as well as our delicacies), so if you're not used to it - prepare yourselves. Staff was kind and helpful, and organized a pick-up service for us from the Hakone Open Air Museum.
The only thing was that the curtains in the bedroom didn't block the sunlight, so we woke up quite early in the morning. If you're a light sleeper, I suggest you put a blindfold.

The staff and service were excellent. They picked us up from the bus stop in their car and took us to the ryokan, sat us in front of a window with a beautiful view and gave us beer and wine while we checked in. They scheduled dinner and breakfast times for us and helped us plan our itinerary for the stay. The food was great and served in a private dining area, and it was a very pleasant experience overall. My primary reason for staying here was the food, private onsen and the view. The onsen was large and spacious and had a window that opened up to let the cool air in. The view was overlooking the mountains. We were SUPER relaxed and had a lot of space!
The area was a little bit difficult to get to. From Tokyo, we had to catch a specific train (requiring reservations), then transfer to a bus, then coordinate with the hotel (and other friendly locals) to pick us up. We were excited to spend the day doing the Hakone Loop down to Lake Ashi, but there were waaaay more crowds than I expected and we started later than we intended. So we ended up missing out on some key activities. The day should certainly start early if you want to enjoy Lake Ashi boat ride.

An Unforgettable Stay – Highly Recommended! Our stay at this accommodation was truly exceptional! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home with their warmth and attention to detail. They truly went above and beyond to ensure our comfort throughout our stay. One of the highlights was the Japanese-style breakfast and dinner, which were both delicious and beautifully presented. Each meal felt like a culinary experience, offering an authentic taste of Japan that we will remember for a long time. But the real treat was having an onsen in our room! It added such a luxurious touch to our stay, providing the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring. The soothing experience of soaking in the onsen made our time here even more special. Everything about this place was perfect, and we’re already planning our next visit. If you’re considering staying here, don’t hesitate—just book it! We highly recommend this incredible place, and we’re sure you’ll love it as much as we did.

Do NOT try to walk here unless you are an avid hiker. The walk on Google maps is windy and at a steep incline! The hotel provides pick up and drop off from a specific bus or train station. Do NOT make the same mistake my partner and I did!!!! Upon arrival, a hotel tour and room tour is given and then they will ask when you'd like to dinner and then breakfast the next morning. The bath is pre-drawn upon your arrival and set at a good temperature for immediate use. A cellphone will be left in your room as your way to contact the hotel staff. A yukata, jacket, socks, and sleepwear is provided for your stay. Even if you book 2 singles, they are both in one room on the same platform, so you're able to push them together. Dinner was good, very heavy on traditional Japanese food, drinks are not included. The English version of the menu was very loose and generic, the Japanese menu had more information (but does not translate well on Google). Breakfast served was a traditional Japanese breakfast and was very fish heavy. Someone comes through to your dinner table to explain the food which was quite complex. The room had a large TV and lounge area (separate to the bedrooms) which was really nice for me and my partner to use to relax.
Confirm your dinner time reservation, as there was a mix up during my stay. I had asked for the latest reservation which was 6:30PM (at the time of arrival) and got a little rushed and scolded for nearly missing our reservation which was then told to us by staff that we were scheduled in for 6PM instead.

The property is gorgeous. I was happy with the facilities and the surrounding natural beauty. The meals were excellent and the staff was just so nice and helpful. I loved my stay. The room large almost like a small condominium. The indoor bath was lovely. The view from the bath and the living room area was spectacular even though it was only October there was already a change to fall colors,
There’s not much to dislike. It is a tad more remote than other facilities in the area. But the staff was nice enough to drive us to and from bus stops so I guess the location was not much of a problem.

Staying in ryokan was enjoyable experience. Dinner consisted of 9 small courses, each of them had been prepared with passion and amazing amount of effort in every little detail. But in our case the most amazing went far beyond this level of hospitality. We messed up with an address of golf club and we sent our golf bags to the wrong club to be delivered next day after stay in Kyuan Hakone. We only realised it at 5 p.m. a day before the tee time. We explained it at reception of ryokan. To make the long story short they did a miracle together with shipping company and resolved our mistake. Many thanks to the patience and to the high professionalism of the team. It was our second day in Japan and this was unbeatable experience. Arigato gozaimasu.

We traveled for two weeks in Japan with another couple. We all agreed this was the most unique and fun place we stayed on our entire trip. We wanted to experience a traditional ryokan and this met our expectations. There were only two rooms left when we booked, so we stayed in one of the larger suites and our friends stayed in a standard twin room. We enjoyed the private hot tubs in our rooms because we were not comfortable with the public onsens. The suite allowed us to invite our friends to join us in our room for the traditional dinner and breakfast. We only stayed one night in Hakone. The dinner and breakfast were fun for one night and one morning, but I'm not sure I'd want to have it multiple nights in a row. The service was excellent. The attached photos are of the suite.
No complaints.

We had a wonderful stay at this classic ryokan, and the atmosphere was truly amazing. From the moment we arrived, the hotel gave us a warm and welcoming reception, making us feel right at home. The peaceful ambiance made our stay incredibly relaxing, and we especially loved the private onsen. It was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this ryokan to anyone looking for a calming and authentic stay in Japan!
Our stay at this classic ryokan was wonderful, and the meals were a highlight! The dishes were beautifully arranged and the flavors were incredible. However, it's worth noting that the menu is very focused on fish. If you're not a big fan of fish, we recommend contacting the hotel beforehand to see if they can offer alternatives. We personally loved the meal, but it's something future guests may want to keep in mind. Overall, the experience was fantastic, and we highly recommend it!
