Mitake is a very good experience. The service is great. You have a private onsen and modern bathroom in the room, even though it is traditional. It is easy to reach: take the T line Togendai bus from Odawara station or Hakone-Yumoto station. Stop at 250 Senkyoro-Mae. Mitake is 10 feet away from the bus stop. The same bus goes back to Odawara from bus stop 3 near Mitake (just across the street).

A very beautiful ryokan with very friendly staff. The entire ryokan and the room were bigger than i expected. The room was cosy and comfy, and we had a toilet to ourselves. The toilet was very cold though, as there was no heater. There's a balcony which i would recommend opening the glass doors in the daytime as the garden is beautiful too. They also have a sakura tree in the garden, which was in full bloom during our stay. The food was lovely and very filling. I would recommend opting for the halfboard to get both dinner and breakfast for the full ryokan experience. The private onsen was the best. You can head in anytime without reservations, and you don't have to worry if you have tattoos or not. There's a shower right next to the onsen, so you can shower there before going for a dip. They also provide a wide variety of yukata you can choose from in the public area, or you can simply use the one they provide in your room. Staff were very friendly, there was a grandpa (the boss) and his son, and a few other staff. His son did his best to converse with us in English, and even spoke to us in Malay and Chinese as we are from Singapore, and we were very grateful for that 😊 The cats were so adorable and were happy to get some pats. They also have a homemade gacha machine for you to gacha a Mitake cat sticker at 100 yen, really cute! Would love to come back again, and I would recommend staying for more than a night to really enjoy the place.

I should have stayed another night... 😔 check out timing is at 10 am, which is the same for most ryokans here, so it was definitely too rushed to just stay for a night. Also, there are 4 cats living here, but we only saw 2 🥲

Mitake is etched in our hearts. The kindest staff who even learned a few words in our language. We loved the room, it was exactly what we wanted to experience in Japan. Tatami, futon, even a living area with huge windows. We played board games in the lounge, bathed in the onsen (there is also the option to use the private onsen). There is a konbini about a 5 minute walk from the accommodation. Good transport accessibility to Lake Ashi. And amazing cats! We want to come back here.

If I could give Mitake 10 stars I would! This stay was the highlight of my two week trip. The rooms were beautiful and simple, the onsen was inviting and relaxing. However if there’s two things to really highlight it’s the food and the staff. The dinner service is a must! I didn’t anticipate a gorgeous and fresh feast! The staff is truly some of the most kind, generous, hard working people I’ve ever met who clearly love what they do. They were incredibly patient with my friend and I, who speak little to no Japanese. Please consider staying here and appreciate the staff and their hard work! THANK YOU MITAKE!

Nothing!

Staff is welcoming, onsen is super nice, location is calming and peaceful. Cats are friendly too, thought not really interested in interaction unless you have some cat's food :) Location is also nice, there are 2 combini around, one is working 24/7, and a couple of restourants as well. The corridors are waiting to be rennovated, but other than that place looks cosy and not outdated. Private onsens are free of charge, which is also a huge bonus. I would love to come again.

Neighbours had a kid, who cried half of the night, which was understandable, but annoying, because I could not sleep. But it can't be helped. Also, for some reason, the dinner was not that great, cannot recommend, for me it was 3- out of 5 at best. Looked beautiful, but... The breakfast was ok though, 4/5!

The breakfast and dinner meals that were included were wonderful. The food was so fresh and lovingly prepared. We changed into the yukatas that they supplied for dinner; this made our dinners more fun and memorable. We had a wonderful and memorable stay at Mitake; wished we were able to stay more than 2 nights. We all agreed this was one of the best parts of our trip! We will be back!

Steep stairs to go into the onsens, but that's just me because I have bad knees.

Peaceful and calming Ryokan experience. Good food. Good onsen facilities. Board games and kimonos available.

The staff had trouble speaking fluent English which made communication difficult at times but not a big deal overall! Staff were friendly and willing to help. The onsen facilities are on a first come first serve basis with no booking facility. You can be waiting around for the onsen which can be a bit of a nuisance if you are just there for one night but we managed to get in not too late

The staff were SO nice ! There are cats! Private and public onsen open 24/7 which was great since we were exploring most of the day. We had breakfast and supper at the hotel and both were delicious. Breakfast is served at 8am and they will get your ass up so a warning to anyone else who likes to sleep in. But it was perfect! Would stay here again we really loved it.

My friend and I enjoyed our stay at this old-fashioned and well-maintained ryokan. The staff were very respectful and accommodating, and it was nice that the ryokan was right off the senkyoro-mae bus stop. Had a lovely lunch/dinner cafe right down the block. The Venetian Glass Museum and Lawson convenience store were within walking distance (10min) as well, but for the other main tourist sites, the bus is probably the best bet. The cats are adorable, they seemed to enjoy napping and lounging in the sun during our short stay there. We also tried the outdoor private onsen, which was clean, private, and very hot (it was our first time in an onsen, so our bodies were not used to the high temperature, haha). We had breakfast and dinner, both of which were delicious and had us experience many traditional Japanese foods that were new to us. It's a good older traditional ryokan to experience, with 4 onsens (2 private, 2 public).

The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The dinner was phenomenal, one of our favorite experiences on our trip to Japan. The futons were really cozy.

Really long windy crowded bus to get there, facilities are definitely older and could use a renovation, but for the price and the staff and the dinner it was fine for the one night. There are indoor cats roaming around which the kids adored, but just beware if you have allergies.
