Quiet and had 4 private onsens available for use. Rooms were big and comfortable, with good amenities. Very friendly staff as well.

The dining area was open air and there were a lot of insects including bees. Same for the outdoor private onsens. It was no issue for me for the smaller insects but the buzzing bees was kind of unnerving. I also did find that overall, the food was above average at best compared to other ryokans I have stayed in the past. But that said, taste is a personal preference. Another small matter was when the ryokan contacted prior to my stay to ask for any dietry restrictions, I had told them the item I do not eat. They replied that they do not serve that. But guess what, during dinner. One of the items was that particular ingredient.

The baths, which include the gender segregated big bath and four private baths, three of which are outdoors, are a highlight, especially the outdoor ones in the bamboo grove. No reservations are required for the private baths, but they have a website you can check to see if the bath is in use. Wifi is accessible across the premises, so accessing this is easily done. If you opt for on premises dining (and you should!), you will dine on the terrace, overlooking the river. Food, like most ryokans, focus on local seasonal ingredients. With the area famous for wasabi cultivation, expect this ingredient to make an appearance and open your eyes to what it can do! Rooms were spacious and comfortable.

Getting here is probably not going to be easy, as this is out in the countryside. You will eventually need to take a bus (or taxi or drive) to get to Tatsuta. Staff were very good, but you may struggle if you don't speak any Japanese. If you don't like insects, you might find yourself freaking out, especially when by the riverside. Rooms use the hot spring water for the hot water tap; this may mean the hot water in your room may take some time to arrive. All minor things here, and no real complaints on the experience.

It was such an unforgettable experience stay for our first visit to Japan and first time experiencing traditional ryokan with natural onsen in such beautiful setting. Everything had exceeded our expectations! We travelled from Tokyo by Shinkansen to Minowa, then took a local train to Shuzenji before taking a local bus to the ryokan. From bus stop it was only a 5 minutes walk down the hill before we found the ryokan nested right along the stream. The place was in a beautiful setting, proper Japanese countryside. Staff were welcoming and they spoke very good English. We had a traditional style room with futon and tatami with a balcony right next to the stream. Everything in the room was functional, clean and spacious. The free yukata was awesome! We were wearing them throughout our stay, super comfy. The 10 course meal by the river was exceptional, every dish tasted fresh and delicious. It's definitely worth reserving a table and dine at the ryokan for the full experience. There were 4 private hot spring baths, of which we tried all of them. They were amazing! 1 was indoor, 2 outdoor and 1 simi-indoor. They also had communal baths separated by gender but since we went there as a couple we didn't try them, only private ones. You scan the QR code to check if they are vacant and you simply just go in if they are free. The place was so peaceful and tranquil we wish we could stay longer.

We loved absolutely everything about our stay at Taysuta Ryokan. It was a truly wonderful experience l that will stay in our hearts forever The food was the best I've ever had and totally unexpected . Loved the ritual of it and so many incredible tastes and courses that were delicious and beautifully and thoughtfully presented. The location tranquil and eating by the river just added to the whole experience. The staff were suburb attentive but respecful and extremely helpful Having the variety of Onsens was great, too We wish we could have stayed longer If you are looking for a tranquil, magical and traditional Japanese experience, then this is for you. we can not recommend this place highly enough

Both breakfast and evening meals are very generous if we had stayed longer we wouldn't have both meals each day

Renovated rooms are beautiful, lobby coffee and service very nice. They came and met us at our car with umbrellas when it was raining heavily, which was a very appreciated gesture. lovely peaceful environment

The riverside seating is not comfortable. It would be more convenient to have the hole in the ground option for the tatami. A more kid-friendly menu option would be greatly appreciated, we wanted to enjoy the dinner but we had to pay full price for our child and he couldn't eat many of the types of food and the quantity was simply too much.

We thoroughly enjoyed the onsens at the hotel, finding them to be of exceptional quality, and the reservation system made accessing them effortless. Our stay was incredibly relaxing, thanks in part to the serene atmosphere and rejuvenating experience of the onsens. Moreover, the hotel's proximity to natural onsens, picturesque waterfalls, and scenic wasabi plantations added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit, allowing us to explore and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty.

My primary complaint about the hotel was the peculiar odor reminiscent of a horse stable that permeated the first floor, which was quite off-putting. While thankfully the smell didn't extend to our room, the resemblance to a barn in the hallway was unsettling. Additionally, we found the prices of the meals offered at the hotel to be disproportionately high, prompting us to opt for dining at local restaurants instead.

exceptional meal. private Onsens perfect for couples to use together. rushing river is awesome

it’s a bit out of the way. it took us a 30 minute train ride from Mishima then a 49 minute bus ride and a ten minute walk. but it was worth it. have your luggage forwarded from your previous hotel for around $20 per suitcase and enjoy travelling light

The privacy within the Ryokan made for an intimate stay. It's a place where you have time with your partner and don't have to be with many other guests. The private baths were readily available, and we didn't have to book or wait for vacancies. The restaurant had a beautiful view of the river, and when we were there during the typhoon, dining beside the water was spectacular. We loved the room we stayed in as it overlooked the river and forest and was beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese decor. The futons were cosy to sleep on and comfortable for a good night sleep. Staff were so lovely. We found all staff members helpful and considerate of our needs. It was great to have fluent English speaking staff, also, so there was no language barrier between us.

The only thing we found that would have made the stay perfect for us was that there was only one dinner option, a multiple course meal. A lighter meal of a one course main meal option may be preferred for some people.

My family and I recently stayed at Tatsuta Ryokan and had the best onsen experience in Japan so far! Before COVID, my family and I used to travel a lot to Japan, and Tatsuta is by far the warmest and most welcoming compared to the other onsen hotels we’ve stayed at. Getting there from Tokyo is straightforward: take the JR line to Shuzenji station, and then you can either take a taxi or schedule a free ride with the hotel staff in advance. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, making me feel right at home, despite my late arrival at around 9 PM. Their hospitality truly enhanced my stay and made the entire experience unforgettable. The onsen facilities were exceptional, especially the private ones, which offered a serene and relaxing environment. Checking availability is quick and convenient by scanning the QR code with your phone. My family and I were able to enjoy all the onsen due to the limited number of guests the hotel accommodates. This also added to the experience by providing a quiet and beautiful forest stay with fewer people around. The attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and comfort was evident, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent soaking in the soothing waters. The water temperature was just right! The breakfast the next morning was very traditional, allowing us to sit by the river and enjoy the scenery with the sounds of birds. The warm and welcoming staff guided us through the local food experience. The taste was spot on and very similar to Kaiseki dining. Budget-wise, the breakfast was somewhat a substitute for a Kaiseki meal. Before we left, we asked the front desk to call a taxi for us. The staff walked us to the taxi, which is really something you don’t often experience nowadays. As they waved us goodbye, I thought, "I have to come back." Overall, this was an outstanding experience that

Maybe include last minute dinner option.

Amazing local food. One of the best we have had. I can’t eat raw food and the cooked version is just as amazing. Rooms are very comfortably. Ryokans have a system where u can check if they are availability for private use. The public ones are ok very basic.

Location is a bit off the track. All good but if you take bus there and the weather isn’t great, you might end up eating chips for lunch cuz there is no coffee shop near by. And they don’t offer lunch option
