Super clean, the team of obachan in charge of the place were so nice. Thanks for their had work ! The location is convenient, 15min from the station by foot. The bed were so comfortable, it's futon with something else to make it soft and we really appreciated that ! It's nice to have a bath and big bathroom all to yourself. Towels and yukata are provided and changed everyday.

We had a room by the entrance door and many people were not careful about opening it and closing it. The building is a bit noisy so your stay will depend on the other guests. The street is also a bit noisy. There's only one shower/bathroom so you have to wait a lot in the evening to get your turn. However, we had a very nice stay and this points wouldn't keep from recommending the place.

The hotel is managed by an old man, super nice. Despite the langage barrier, he checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. The house is clean, beds confortable. We used the public bath which was warm and nice. We had it for our own family (you can indicate when busy and people respect privacy and wait for their turn). Eventhough it’s out of the touristic zone, it is easily accessed with a 20 min walk.

It is a bit noisy since it’s japanese style thin walls. This didn’t bother us much though. There are no curtains (in the room we were in) so we woke up early.

Value for money was very good. The free bikes were well maintained. The owner(?) didn't speak much English but was very friendly and we easily got by. The room was very spacious and well appointed.

It's a bit of a walk from the city center, and passing over/under the river, highway, and railway from the train station wasn't that convenient with a suitcase on foot. I stayed in the annex. There the only option for taking a shower is the communal bath (there are more sinks outside). How it was setup when I was there is blocking the complete ginormous bath when using it - which is nice for the person using it, but could get annoying with wait times if the ryokan has more guests. The main building seemed to have additional shower cubicles which I didn't test.

While not the fanciest of hotels, we really enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Matsukaze. We loved the family bath. The beds were very comfortable and sheets were changed daily. it was nice to have a fridge, an urn and green tea provided in our rooms along with Yukata for bathing. There is a 7/11 2 minutes away.

The Ryokan is a 15 min walk to the station and is not close to restaurants or the centre of the city. This did make it a bit of trek to get to places. on the other hand, it's cheap so worth the savings.

For sure recommend staying here, really good value for money, walking distance from everything you’d want to see / easy to get to and from the bus or train station. Being able to cycle around was a highlight for us in Matsumoto! Comfy futon bed and room with clean facilities. Though it’s a shared space it’s insanely quiet around. Onsen was beautiful and a good way to unwind after a long travel to Matsumoto.

There was nothing to dislike, everything was great and traditional!

It's a nice little place, with a bit of a quirky charm. Good value for the money, and we really enjoyed staying there. It's a bit old and has seen better days, but we really enjoyed it. Perfect location, very nice onsen.

The layout is just a bit special. There is a kitchen but just two forks 😂 Still, I recommend this place. I wanna go back!!

Was a nice slice of old Japanese comfort and hospitality it's rooms were basic a little aged but still very nice to stay in and are still pleasant to sleep on the floor there was a really nice bath house at the back of the ryokanand the manager of the place was very friendly and going and helping us

Probably the only thing my friends didn't like too much which was annoying as westerners was the fact that there was no private shower cubicles accept in the main building the back off the house had a bathhouse which was not always convenient for one person to use

Wonderful staff. Clean room and attention to detail with presentation. The other guests were quiet and considerate with noise. Walking distance to the station. Excellent value for money.

Smoke from people smoking outside wafting into the foyer. Entrance to building is a little cluttered and untidy. The common area could be made more user friendly and enticing.

It's a quirky Ryokan that's a warren of rooms and staircases. The room is large and cosy, and you are provided with free green tea, which is a nice touch. The bed is comfortable and warm, and there's a sento, as others have mentioned. However it isn't gender segregated but it is private, but it is a case of getting in there when you can, as there is no booking system. It's a 10 minute walk from the station if you exit from the back. Think it might be slightly longer if you exit from the front.

It is about a half an hour walk from the castle. There was no hot water in the main building on the morning I was there so I nipped across to the annexe and used the shower in the public bath, where there was hot water. The Ryokan has seen better days, but it is fairly reasonably priced.

Loved the relaxed and charming atmosphere of the place! Super friendly host who speaks fluent english and could give us some recommendations :) very reasonable price for beautiful tatami rooms.

One minor thing is that we used the bath in the evening and the water wasn’t very clean, but I imagine that’s normal after a whole day of people using it! We were told best time to use it is the morning. Apart from this we loved our stay!
