We really like the room, traditional Japanese room feel with good view of the mountains. Futon bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good and the overall service is great. Loved the onsen, tried the day and night, outdoors and indoors pools. Walking distance to a row of eateries across the road. Walkable to Jigokudani and the hotel is just 5mins away to the main bus station.
There is no "Do not disturb" sign, got a slight shock when they came in to make the bed for us. We were in the room and they probably didnt hear us when we replied to them pressing the doorbell. Wish for more privacy.

Hotel Mahoroba has a relatively inexpensive shuttle option from Sapporo to Noboribetsu which made the transfer with all our luggage easy. The staff were polite and welcoming. We had a spacious suite with a sitting area and private onsen bath. It's absolutely worth it to spend extra for this amenity if you can, but if you can't, don't worry. The two expansive onsen facilities provided numerous baths and switch between men and women each day, so you can experience them both. Without a doubt, my favorite was the outdoor pools on B2. There is something surreal about sitting in steaming hot mineral water as fat flakes of snow drift down. It was incredible! If we are ever in Noboribetsu again, we will return to Hotel Mahoroba.
The buffet meals were plentiful, but there are numerous excellent restaurants in town. I'd suggest venturing out of the hotel for more varied options.

Onsen & buffet dinner is great.
Very slow check-in & check-out, limited no. if front desk staff. Facilities are little dated.

This was the 3rd Onsen hotel that we have stayed and it is the only onsen that is really hot. We really enjoyed the onsen during our stay in this hotel. The hotel location is also very good, there are many shops and restaurants opposite the hotel (1 min walk) and only 4 mins walk to hell valley. The premium buffet is very good, must try. We want to give special thanks to the hotel for helping us organise the birthday celebration for my wife and her good friend. They really went extra miles to help us make the birthday celebration a good one. My wife and her good friend had an enjoyable and memorable birthday celebration. We also want to special mention the 2 Chinese speaking staffs (a Taiwanese lady and a Japanese man who speaks English) for the amazing service, both of them have done more than what a front desk staff would have normally do.

Very convenient that we can book the shuttle bus to and back from hotel for 1000yen per person each way with pick up near tv tower. Walking distance to Jigokudani valley. Shopping street is just opposite hotel. The food for dinner buffet is good with lots of varieties. The onsen area is big and spacious.
The Japanese room for 4 persons is too small. After the beds are spread out, there is not much space for walking. Only have space for 1 luggage outside the toilet area. Not much time to enjoy the area as we stayed only 1 night and shuttle bus only reach hotel at 3pm. Had to leave hotel at 9am+ the next day to catch the shuttle bus back to Sapporo. Will be good if hotel offers an earlier bus from Sapporo.

This hotel is perfectly suited to experience an authentic onsen, located in the middle of volcanic mountains and within walking distance to the famous Hell Valley. The rooms in this ryokan are spacious, the futons very comfortable. The outdoor onsen is surrounded by rocks and lush green woods. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner in buffet style, but only after we decided to pay for the upgrade which was yen 3000,- per person which is absolutely reasonable. We would recommend you to do the same unless you are fine with finding yourself together with large groups of Chinese tourists cramped in a rather loud dining hall and lower quality of food. With the above mentioned upgrade we were perfectly happy - this was the quality we had expected!

Good place to visit with families. Have its own shuttle to Hokkaido city.
Room is too small for 4 people to stay. Rather it is a size for 2 people. When I call to Hotel number, night shift staffs cannot speak English and hung up the phone calls as saing “no English. call tmrw” (So i cannot make a reservation for hotel bus… It’s better to write an email or call during 9 to 6 I think)

Breakfast was delicious and dinner wonderful with a great choice of dishes. The on site onsen were huge and amazing and there was even one outside. It is worth a drive into the surrounding countryside to see the lakes and volcanoes. There was obviously a funeral in the town and it was blasting out hot steam, quite something to see! The town itself is small but easy to walk around in and has a good mixture of local shops.
We didn’t like the bear park (we did not visit it so missed out on the cable car).Visitors are encouraged to feed the bears in pits and it just wasn’t for us.

Mahoroba is a splendid hotel especially for onsen. The hotel is immense. Our rooms were large that could easily fit 4 people. Our dinner buffet was fantastic. It has wide variety of selection including crab leg, sashimi and steak. We were fully filled. Breakfast buffet was also served us well. The best part was its onsen. It was brilliant. It was huge and fully equipped. There were numbers of pools with different mineral water. The view was also amazing. We were all satisfied.
Some parts of the hotel seem a little bit out date. Thus, renovation can be done. Car park also needs a little bit of the touch up.

Loved our spacious suite with our private onsen. Tthe room was large, comfortable and clean and we had a fantastic stay! Complimentary mini bar was well stocked all the time, and food & beverage items were all of excellent quality.
There is no air conditioning in the suite so it got really hot at points in the night. Food at the buffet line was tasty but could do with more variety as it was the exact same items the 2 days we were there.
