The keiseki meals and the onsen were the main attractors, and they did not disappoint. The place is just by a river as well, and very close to Hell Valley and the rest of the attractions in the area. Nice ambience overall.

The place really needs a refurbishment- it looks outdated, with faded 80s pastels, walls and furniture shows wear and tear and its a little moldy by the windows and in the bathroom. The reception staff was friendly and helpful, yet seemed to lack coordination among themselves.

We've stayed at many different ryokans in Japan over the years. Oyado Kiyomizuya was fine in every aspect (breakfast, baths, room comfort, service, cleanliness) but not outstanding when considering price. Other reviews complain about needing to prebook meals, removing shoes and onsen tax which are all very normal procedures for ryokans. Onsen tax is always paid separately from booking and meals needed to be reserved in advance, preferably when the room is booked.

Thought it was a bit odd that staff would not help us with calling a restaurant to make a reservation.

The main staff at the front desk seemed to know enough English to help accommodate guests, and was nice to tell us about a local festival occuring the day we checked in! Rules on the onsen times were very clear, and the food options were great (it seemed to focus on cooked seafood for my stay).

The Wi-Fi speeds weren't great for me, seemed fine to other guests. Also unsure if it was due to previous guests, but the rooms had a relatively minor smokey cigarette smell; you kind of get used to it when staying in the room for a while.

Unexpectedly good Kaiseki Ryori or traditional multi-course Japanese dinner and breakfast. Great service from Mr Ueno, our room attendant. He made a real difference! Location was a bit isolated but it was quiet and maybe a 15-minute walk to town center. Very close to Jugokudani or Hell Springs Park.

This 22-room boutique hotel is a little old and somewhat musty, but each room has an A/C unit or dehumidifier, etc. The two onsen or baths were a bit dark, but they switched the men’s and women’s baths which helped!

Lovely country style ryokan hotel in the heart of Noboribetsu. Easy access to Hells Valley And surrounding country walks, shops and tourist spots. great onsen experience with really potent Geo thermal waters.

If you’d like to experience an in house ryokan style set dinner remember to book well in advance, as we did not drinking so in the initial booking and even though we arrived at 1400 we were unable to decide a dinner reservation. It was no problem as town is a stones walk away with great dining options.

The hotel is about 10 minutes uphill walk from the bus terminal, quite a challenge when dragging heavy luggages. Anyway, the hotel is a little bit ancient, nothing glamours compared to the grand hotels next door, but the hospitality of the staff supplemented all and the hotel presents a cozy home like atomasphere which we seldom experience traveling worldwide. The Japanese style room is spacious and very clean, the futon beds are super comfortable. The hot spring is tiny and has nothing to do with splendours but one can feel how ancient hot springs used to be.

Rooms are spacious. Onsen is excellent. Location to major sightseeing is superb. Parking is on site. Staff especially front desk is extremely friendly and helpful.

Traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner are on average. While varieties are good but quality is nothing more than ordinary. The location is remote from shopping area.

Good location at the heart of the Onsen area, right across from a walking trail loop. Property needs some upgrades but it’s retaining the traditional ryokan hotel charm. Service is superb and definitely get the dinner and breakfast option if you love Japanese food- 15+ different items served per meal- in your room!

They survived the pandemic shutdown but the wounds are showing a little in terms of room and facilities upkeep (minor stuff).

Service and assistance were very good. The staff is nice and helpful. We asked for dinner and breakfast to be made vegetarian and they prepared a delicious and abundant meal for us!! The onsen is old and small but charming and the water quality outstanding. Feeling of being straight from the hell valley close by (which it obviously was)!

Overall, I highly recommend this place for an all-out Japanese onsen experience – with no unnecessary flashiness, but with all the service and food you desire, and a price-performance ratio that's hard to beat. -------- + From beginning to end, the service was impeccable. As a guest, I almost felt like a king, as the staff took care of our every need. + As is the norm for a Japanese-style ryokan, we were provided traditional Yukata garments (their largest size was long enough for me at 190cm) and sandals to wear in the hotel, tea and ice water were available in the room as well. + The highlight for me was the wonderful Japanese dinner served in the room, with around 20 different courses that were individually explained. Every dish had its unique taste, all carefully crafted to not only taste exceptional, but also look beautiful. + The interior is simple, classy and gives a flair of old Japan + The onsen hot spring baths are not the largest or most fancy you'll find, but they absolutely fulfill their role in providing a warm and relaxing experience. - What can be tough for non-early birds is the early breakfast time: the latest option offered to us was 7:30am, and accounting for the time needed to clear the futon beds to set up the table, we had to get up before 7am.
