Clean, everything was in good condition and worked really well. Great location, within 2 minutes of a convenience store and 5 minutes of some tourist hot spots. Not to mention the train/bus station isn't too far, about 15 minutes away. Staff were great, they attended to my needs and were happy to have a conversation and give recommendations. Also the old style Japanese house has been well preserved and added nicely to the atmosphere of my stay which I really appreciated. Also liked the privacy, which made me feel safe and comfortable. WiFi was really good, 100mb/s, which is always a big plus. Had access to a full commercial kitchen which was surprising, though I didn't cook anything. I'll definitely be coming back.

What I'm about to mention are only minor issues, but are things to consider and know about. These issues didn't in any way make my experience bad. Didn't realise that the showers were shared, as in you'd share the same space with anyone else having a shower at the same time in full view of each other. The rooms do get cold very quickly, since it's an older building, but the heaters did help. Another thing to note is that the walls are thin, so you will hear others when they speak and walk around, but it wasn't that bad.

Beautiful old house. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. The sleeping futons were very comfortable. We were plenty warm enough in our room with heaters and good blankets. The location was pretty close to town. Free snacks in the common area.

The bathrooms have an odd layout, it was difficult to find somewhere to put my clothes to keep them dry. The common lounge room area and the kitchen were mostly used by staff while we were there rather than other guests. It felt like most people in the hostel were staff or long term residents so the vibe was a bit different to what we are used to in hostels.

The location of the accommodation is near the morning market and the old town. You can walk there. I drove there and there was a parking fee of 1000 yen. The receptionist is a foreigner who speaks English and the owner is Japanese. I stayed here for 2 nights so I got to use the free washing machine but there is no dryer here. I had to walk outside to dry my clothes, which is about 30 meters, but it was convenient. Since there is no elevator here, I stayed on the 2nd floor and my luggage was quite big. The receptionist helped me carry my luggage upstairs, which was very kind.

I booked a room for 3 people and got room number 9 which is located above the kitchen. On the first day of my stay, the smell of food entered the room. The smell was so strong that I had to buy an air freshener to spray on it to get rid of the smell. For the rooms on the 2nd floor, including the area in front of the room, it is filled with the smell of food from downstairs that floats up. I think the ventilation system is not very good. All the toilets and showers are downstairs, which may be inconvenient for the elderly to stay here as the stairs are quite steep and there are not enough toilets.

It was a good experience to stay at ryokan, tatami style. The room is warm, and they also provide electric heating blanket. The hostel is a bit far walk from Takayama Station especially when u have to pull big luggage, about 20mins walk, but it was bearable. The hostel allow us to store luggage before check in time and after check out time, that is the biggest plus point. And they have common area where we could wait as well. Overall, i highly recommend the place 👍🏼

Need to walk down to the bathrooms. All bedrooms are upstairs. But this is a small issue for me.

The recepcion staff was a friendly english native speaker (not very good for me because I prefer to practice japanese), but of course very convenient. The Ryokan is beautiful, with a very big kitchen you can use, coin laundry 1 minute far away or for free (if you stay at least 2 days) in the ryokan. The same for towels. If you want to meet young people or socialize is the perfect place. Very good price, top location, snacks, very good sushi restaurant 5 minutes walking distance (LOB Sushi please try the shabu shabu sushi). Be careful, the next 7 eleven is at the station.

I did not like that some people were walking without socks or putting the foot on the table, some of them did not greet and some left the bathroom dirty. Through the corridors, I had the feeling of being in a youth hostel

The Ryokan is pretty close to the city center, the personal speaks very good English and they can help you with any information you need. The room and also the shared bathroom and kitchen are clean and have all the amenities you need (towels, soap, shampoo, hair drier, shared fridge, plates, glasses, microwave etc). The bonus of the accommodation is the fact that is very traditional and has a good price, so, overall, worth the stay for maximum 2 nights.

The room is pretty noisy, you hear noise either from other guests or from outside. To be more precisely, the walls are thin and you can hear every step if you are a light sleeper and also the window to our room could not be close very well because of the air conditioning, so we could hear the river from outside.

I really loved this stay in a very old classic Japanese house! We really felt at home. The staff is super friendly, the common room is very cosy and provides free Japanse snacks, the kitchen is vet big, very clean and actually looks like a professional restaurant kitchen. What we liked the most is the Japanese 'irori' which so can rent to cook on, very very nide experience. The location is great on walking distance from some tourist things and the station. The silent hours really mean silent hours, I really appreciate that. Loved everything about this house and the vibe, atmosphere of it, would definitely recommend!!!!

I wished I could have stayed longer. If you are a very tall person the bed could be maybe too short for you in the room where we slept. Only thing that would have been nice was a little mirror in the room.

During our November visit to Takayama, we stayed in the superior twin room at this hotel. Pros: -The hotel was charming with its traditional sliding doors, offering a unique cultural experience. -While language barriers existed with some staff, one particularly helpful English-speaking individual, possibly Irish, stood out for his exceptional assistance. -Surprisingly, the beds were comfortable, a rarity in Japan where many are rock hard, providing a restful night's sleep. -The room was a good size, especially considering the usual compactness of Japanese accommodations.

Cons: -The hotel was not very close to the main street or bus/train station, requiring a 15-20 minute walk. -We found the door thin and the lock flimsy, which made us feel slightly uneasy about the security of our belongings. The room did come with a safe. -While the room was clean, signs of age, particularly around the windows, were apparent and could benefit from attention.

It was a privilege to have stayed in this almost 100 year old ryokan. Everything was clean and well taken care of. Excellent location and Irene was always willing to help us. Even though the bathroom was shared, it was always clean.

The cold. It was really freezing in the room and even though the AC worked the room was still cold. What helped though were the electric warmers for the sheets. We didn't want to move from there when we woke up. Great warmers!!!

I loved my individual room. It had everything I needed and was perfect for a digital nomad. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was awesome to be able to use their washing machine for free since I stayed for at least 2 days. And the snackkkkksss were so awesome. Small things like having a heated blanket, heaters in the bathroom, umbrellas, indoor slippers etc. were very appreciated.

I was sad not to be able to use the fire/sake space but I was just unlucky that no one felt like hanging out there while I was around.
