The hotel is beautiful. It has wonderful old-world charm with all the wood and marble. The location is perfect - close enough to Republic street that you can walk there in a few minutes, but far enough away that the noise won't bother you. Right beside the Barrakka gardens with a wonderful view of the harbour. The staff were friendly! The bathroom was clean and spacious, and the shower had amazing water pressure. The breakfast was adequate - filling but not amazing, though I will say the coffee and the pain au chocolat were the highlights. Very close to the bus station for transport links.

A single bed - yes I booked a single room, my own fault. A small four foot double would fit in the room and be far more comfortable. The AC was fine for when I stayed (end of September) but I don't think it would be much good in the high heat of summer, it wasn't very powerful. I'm nit-picking now because the stay really was very good.

Location is excellent. Walkable to all sights of interest In Valletta. Also convenient to buses and the ferry. Breakfast was good selection. There was hot and cold selection and the views from the breakfast room is fantastic! Rooms are adequately furnished, very spacious. Could do with a bit of renovation and sprucing up as it is a very old historical building and beautiful inside.

Our room was right at end of the building where next door was construction for a new apartment block. Consruction work started at 6.30am. In addition it was facing g a main street and very noisy throughout the might as cars and trucks went by. Couldn't keep the window open at might as it was just too noisy.

The location was excellent, five mins walk to bus station and two mins to the main street in one direction and Upper Barrakka in the other. Every single member of staff I met was welcoming and helpful, especially the chap who manages reception over night.

Any minor niggles made up for by the great location and lovely staff.

Roof top breakfast location was breath taking. Breakfast was good , not a huge variety but good enough for us. From the moment we arrived, staff were very attentive. Came immediately to set the air-conditioning and got us a pedestal fan on request. Coffee making facilities were also given as pre arranged when booking. Iron was also given as pre arranged. We were in room 44 , with the three windows, two of them overlooking the square and the breathtaking views. Our request for this room with the three windows were granted, thankyou. The view from the room at night was of amazing square, harbour and the large cruise ships docking, the feeling of not leaving the square, while in the bed room . The location was exceptional with the upper Barracka gardens on the door step, almost an extension of the hotel ,so could hang around until late overlooking the three cities. It was a wonderful experience staying in a historical old building, which was well maintained. Two bottles of water were given on the first day which we topped up daily from the water dispenser in the front room. Appreciated the recycling and topping up. Although next to the prime minister's office ( castille), taxi was allowed to briefly stop for loading and unloading. All the monuments, shops , cafes and bars walking distance, not forgetting the castille hotel coffee shop on the ground floor and the central bus station, just a few minutes away . Local bus service is very good and value for money to travel to any point of the island. Book with confidence, a home away from home !!

bath had a shower curtain (unhygienic) instead of a screen ( could update).The noise from the next room was heard . One whole night was impossible to sleep. Rest of the days were fine with quieter guests.

Fantastic location in the heart of Valletta. Loved that it had a top floor restaurant where breakfast was served overlooking the harbour. The bedroom was comfortable and the en-suite did the job. The atmosphere was oldy worldy and really charming and if I came back to Malta on my own again I would definitely book the hotel and throughly recommend it. The inclusive breakfast had a decent variety and set me up for days out. You were also allowed onto the top floor anytime even though the restaurant was closed.

Not a lot really. I guess in the UK I’m used to having tea/coffee making facilities, which would have been welcome and the small fridge didn’t seem to keep drinks cold, but I’m being picky tbf.

Stayed one night. Perfect location: bus stop to/from the airport in 5 min vicinity to hotel, all attractions are in walking distance, vicinity to ferries stops (just steps down), clean rooms, quiet area, good continental breakfast with gorgeous views on the top floor terrace. Great value for money for solo travelers.

Doors of my room and the next one were next to each other, so I could hear whenever the guests of that room were entering/leaving their room as much as they probably heard me as well. I didn't mind as the guests didn't make any noise as much I tried not to disturb anyone. Plus those are old buildings like almost all buildings in Valletta, so this is something you cannot avoid. As mentioned, the area is quiet, as long as all guests respect the rules and being responsible as it was during my stay, you'll totally enjoy your stay like I did.

There was a lot to like, the location, the view from the bedroom and the breakfast room and terrace, the choice at breakfast and possibly most of all, the staff who were friendly, engaging and wanting to help. And if you would like to experience hospitality of yesteryear, then this hotel definitely fits the bill in so many ways, 24 hour reception, your name remembered etc. It's charming.

Unfortunately the water temperature of the shower went from what felt like scalding hot to freezing cold and back each day. Otherwise we were very happy with the hotel which was within easy reach of the sights, restaurants etc

The Hotel itself is located at the top of the hill near many of the museums and is a living representation of the old times in Malta as the building is some 4 hundred years old (or even more). Some government buildings are nearby so the location is really safe, at least we felt safe all the time. The staff was always helpful and smiling. The rooms were serviced daily and the breakfast was served at the top of the hotel which gave us some breathtaking views of the island.

The AC was barely working so most nights were a bit hot. Also as the building is very old the bathroom was not up to what you would expect out of a hotel. The water pressure in the shower was rather weak and because of the old pipes we had to throw toilet paper in special little bags instead of the toilet.

An amazing stay! I read many complaining comments and was a little cautious before arriving but the reality was above my best expectations! The location is ideal, without any exaggeration. It is at the Castille square, right next to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, a 5min. walk from the bus terminal. It is of course an old building but to the people complaining, if it was new or even refurbished, the price would be a loooot higher. The room was clean and so was the bathroom. Despite its oldness, there were no visible damages or anything disturbing and the toilet and the bathtub were super shiny and clean. The breakfast was more than satisfying, on the roof of the hotel, with an amazing view of Floriana and the Three Cities. All of the employees were kind, helpful and smiling. There ia also a water cooler that you can fill your bottle, which I absolutely did every morning!

Really, everything was great!
