Terrible coffee at breakfast. It would be easy to improve.

Set in beautiful grounds, very peaceful, gardens and a heated swimming pool. Convenient location in the heart of the village but set back so very quiet. We stayed in the garden rooms which are not part of the main hotel. They were small but comfortable. The bed was large and the bathroom had a shower over bath, hair dryer and complementary shampoo and conditioner. There was also a table and chairs outside for sitting and enjoying the garden. The fridge in the room had milk, and there was a kettle and tea, coffee, chocolate and non caffeine teas (no cookies though 🤣). They had MUGS in the room not those crappy tiny cups you sometimes get, bonus! Plus wine glasses and glasses for other child drinks. The breakfast was continental with the option to upgrade to a cooked breakfast. It included cereals, mixed fruit, yogurt, croissants and danish pastries, toast, tea, coffee, juices. We had dinner in the hotel the night before, which was beautiful. The dinner portions were huge so we didn't need a big breakfast! We also used the heated swimming pool which was lovely. The hotel provided towels too and also can provide towels for the hot pools. Car park in site.

The bed was prob too soft for us. Check out was 10am.

Got a lovely 1st impression of the hotel when driving In, looked lush and luxurious like big mansion type of feeling. When entering the hotel, it was vintage red carpets and old stair case with old photos of the building on the walls, cute Christmas decor & lovely lit Christmas trees. our hotel host was a kind man who helped us take our luggage up to our room, room was okay for 3, our bed & sofa bed was already made& we were given a portacot for the toddler. We folded the sofa bed up so our toddler could safely navigate the room without the steel frames of the sofa bed hurting him. We had 2 fans and a large window open but was not enough to minimise the heat in this room. We loved the gardens & the pools and they are definitely a highlight to our stay!!! We also dined at Isobel’s restaurant which was lovely , ambiance was moderate and large dining windows to look at all the well gardened outdoors from different angles. Was a lovely stay overall

Please upgrade your aircon in the rooms.

The heater on the room was very nice, seeing as we stayed in winter, we used it a lot at night. Pillows were perfect and the beds were comfortable as well. The shower pressure was good, which surprised us. Was a very comfortable and amazing stay overall.

There was no hand soap in the bathroom, unless we missed it. There was "face soap". The light system took a bit of getting used to as in our room, one light switch controlled all the lights being on or off. It stated you needed to download an app to chrome cast to their TV, however the app then charged me 40 dollars then didn't work:(.

Location, old world charm. Great to see refurbishment happening

Food from the restaurant was frankly awful. Worst meal I have paid for for a long time

Well located historic hotel. Easy walking distance to the springs, with friendly staff and cosy rooms. Just remember this is an old building - heating and lighting is retro-fitted or portable, floors creak, furniture is dated. But it has atmosphere, it's great value for money and the staff are approachable and professional.

We had a room facing away from the street, and the entire building facade was lit brightly all night. This meant that unless you closed the curtains, your room was also lit brightly all night. I suspect this is the case for the street facing rooms as well. I don't think it needs to be lit the whole night.

Such a charming hotel in beautiful, well-kept, lawns and gardens. Staff were wonderful. Supa friendly and helpful, from checking-in to Isabel's restaurant staff (especially Silvia and Marion), also the function staff, maintenance manager, and cleaners. Our meals were delicious, so compliments to the kitchen staff as well.

If I had to fault anything it would be that the built-ins in our villa were tired and some upkeep/painting required. But still very comfortable.

Our bed was the most comfortable we’ve ever experienced in NZ!! All staff were delightful and couldn’t have been more helpful

Our first impression was that the hotel was rundown BECAUSE the carpet on the entrance steps was very old and frayed. IT WAS REPLACED DURING OUR FIVE DAY STAY AND THE DIFFERENCE WAS EXTRAORDINARY!! We felt it odd that management hadn’t had the foresight to renew before the busy Christmas period. Apart from that everything else was great.

Beautiful setting and location to all amenities excellent. Nicely decorated for Christmas in entry foyer giving a nice feel when arriving. The swimming pool was beautiful as was very hot while we were there. Very comfortable bed. Because if current painting of outside of building the scaffolding was across our outside door so couldn’t access outside seating easily but we managed to find other spots to sit and read outside in the extensive garden area. The building will be lovely when painting is finished.

Great location, good off-street parking, lovely gardens with mature trees, charming old architecture. The best Indian restaurant we've ever been to in NZ is next door; Spice Village. Wow!

Breakfast buffet was good but had fairly limited options. Hotel has bike rack to lock to but given the size of the hotel and the importance of cycling in Hanmer Springs it would be great if the rack was longer to accomodate more bikes. It would be a great use of space under the covered back patio area. No fitness gym.
