We stayed 3 blissful nights at Rimu Lodge, welcomed on our arrival just a few minutes before 8pm by Sue Ellen, who immediately phoned the local pub to ask them to keep the kitchen open so we could rush down for a pizza ( excellent & home made). When we went to Hokatika Gorge & a nearby lake, Sue Ellen thoughtfully produced a picnic rug & beach towels for us. Sue Ellen has made the Lodge exquisite with furnishings and artworks, the bed was super comfortable, the ensuite facilities are beautifully designed with wonderful soaps and shampoos. The evening drinks on the terrace every day to meet other guests was a lovely touch. The views from every room are magical. Breakfast included fresh fruits from the garden. Everything is perfect- try it - you will love it.

Sue-Ellen was a fantastic host, so knowledgable about things to do both locally and also in Franz-Josef. We had the BEST night at her local pub, (on her recommendation) on a Sunday with music, open mic playing fab americanah and others. On the way ‘home’ we then hit her local Glow Worm Dell. I thoroughly recommend Rimu Lodge for more chilled luxury, her ‘Happy Hour’ and her knowledge of the area. Thank you so much Sue Ellen, it was a stay to remember in NZ.

The stay exceeded my expectations. The host was very knowledgeable and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and spacious with beautiful furnishings. The view was instantly relaxing and stunning. It was a super quiet location and was the best nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was exception and beautifully presented . Our best stay in New Zealand and highly recommend.

Sue was an amazing host, picky bits and a scotch whiskey with some lovely others that were staying. The view was amazing and the the sounds that were coming from the woods were lovely to hear. Thanks Sue ❤️

not a big con but would have been nice to have an air-conditioned room being so warm the night we stayed.

Property was simply stunning! Sue-Ellen was a wonderful and welcoming host. Lovely breakfast and enjoyed sitting out on the deck for cocktail hour! If you do go, highly recommend the Precisions helicopters tour with Matty! Thanks again - and highly recommend this property when visiting the West Coast.

beautiful facilities, great hostess and wonderful view and breakfast..

some confusion over the payment - booking .com says its prepaid and the hostess had not been prepaid and i paid again... now i have an issue with booking.com overpossible double payment.... hopefully we sort it out with no problems..

Sue-Ellen was a marvellous hostess with an amazing eye for detail, making our experience utterly enjoyable. Her lodge has magnificent vistas, the place is elegant and cosy. We enjoyed very much the gourmet breakfast and the night cap over a roaring fire place. For those who are particular about cleanliness the lodge including the rooms were spotless. We will definitely return again when we come to these parts of the world again.

The view is amazing, and the facility makes you feel like you are in a lovely home (you are!) yet have your own ample space. The owner, Sue-Ellen, was so welcoming and kind, providing great local tips and making guests feel so welcome. Her “happy hour” allowed us to make new friends whom we went to dinner with, which added to a wonderful experience.

Absolutely loved everything about this place- a little paradise gem in Hokitika. Our host Sue-Ellen was super easy to talk to and very accommodating of our requests. The location is great, close to town and all key attractions. The room and property is super clean with great aesthetics. The breakfast options and quality of food served was great. Highly recommend Rimu Lodge.
