We loved the hotels overall style. Luke was lovely and welcomed us. We were given a king room even though we had booked a double which was a nice surprise. The bed was comfortable, the shower nice and powerful and the aircon was great as the sun was directly on our room in the evenings. We also enjoyed eating at Joe’s Garage which is below the hotel.

Nothing really. The only thing I would mention is be careful when you park behind the hotel…we got blocked in as we had parked in the second space closest to the building. There is a space opposite which had an estate car parked and what with a long van the other side of us we really struggled to get out. We did get out but had to move back and forth a couple of cm’s at a time!!

Check in was enjoyable as we met Luke in the small but luxuriously-decorated foyer. He escorted us upstairs past an eclectic collection of art, to a very comfortable room. Room has an individual AC unit so we could set the temperature to our own preference. The bed was comfortable, especially the pillows. The bathroom was just lovely, I especially appreciated that the quality of the bathroom products, conditioner etc, are much better than you usually get. We had a great stay and we dined at Joe's Garage downstairs, appreciating the 10% discount when we showed our room keycard. Top marks - we would definitely stay here again.

The whimsical decorating in the hotel matches the general atmosphere of New Plymouth. The location is conveniently located in the city center with plenty of dining options nearby. This also serves as a nice base for exploring the Egmont National Park and other nearby beaches. Luke was incredibly knowledgeable and was happy to assist with my questions, The hotel has free private parking nearby. Keep in mind that all rooms are located on the second floor and the hotel does not have elevators. This was well-advertised on the booking, but it deserves emphasizing.

Wasnt sure what to expect but it was really lovely. Beds were super comfortable; clean; bathroom perhaps a little tight but was fresh, and perfectly adequate. Location was great for waterfront walks a couple of streets away. Didn't dine in the restaurant downstairs but found an amazing Indian Restaurant down the street (Arranged Marriage). Small sitting area available for reading and relaxing was a nice idea. Would definitely stay again. NB - Stairs and Drop off / parking spot could be a challenge for mobility impaired. Appreciated parking being available.

Parking was available but @ 50m up the street past the hotel + drop off option was a little challenging for luggage. Security was present over the car park, but is street side. Small walk down the street with our luggage - not a problem for us, but for some could have been a wee challenge for someone mobility impaired or with a lot of luggage they didn't want to leave in the car. Would not put me off staying again, as will know what to expect.

We really like this place. First of all, communication is very smoothly and helpful. Secondly, friendly to “I” type people, as you can help yourself with all the process just follow the information through the email and message. Honestly, I would like to book again if I plan to visit New Plymouth next time. The lounge room, the whole hotel more like an art gallery, you can see a lot of artworks including some Chinese paintings, sculptures. Room is not very big but with everything you needed, it’s tidy and clean, showers are brand new, I believe they maintain the facilities well. We did not get a chance to try the restaurant as we arrive on 24th, Christmas Eve, while all the restaurants are closed on Xmas. But when we passing the bar, it seems very good, maybe we can have a try next time. The location of the hotel is really really really convenient!!! Close to all the places, the KFC, PNS, light show park, art gallery.

Honestly, everything is good!

beautifully decorated, it feel like home. central location, modern bedroom and badroom. No room service or restaurant in the hotel but are plenty of places to eat close to the hotel and it is a good bar and cafe nextdoor. the hotel is ideal for solo travellers or couples with no kids and no pets.

the room is big enough for a solo traveller or a couple, no big wardrobe and no lift so if you travel with big suitcases that can be an inconvenient.

Location- atmosphere- room was clean cosy and modern- bathroom was modern and very clean- Loved the Ecoya products some of my favourites- staff when around were great! Very helpful Also the interior decor was beautiful

The coffeee!! Sorry all about fair trade but it wasn’t the best. Also no option of milk alternative. Perhaps if you asked they may of had alternatives but in the room just cows milk. And since the coffee wasn’t great I didn’t ask. Cafes all around tho so I just bought coffee!

Fantastic Location, Decor, Cleanliness, facilities, shower was out of the box!!! Very comfy bed and quality sheets. Free wifi.

This is NOT a complaint just an observation!!! We would have booked a bigger room as a couple. But it was last minute and the others were all gone. A double bed only in size (queen and king normally available) The double with one side against the wall is not ideal for us. - note to self -

Everything was of a high standard and the room and bed were very comfortable. Luke, Ellie and all the other staff were very friendly and helpful over our two day stay, for example helping us with our laundry in the guest laundry room (a very useful resource for travelers like ourselves!) We definitely recommend staying at the State Hotel.

Breakfast discount was available at Joes Garage which is basically a pub restaurant below the hotel on street level. This option didn’t appeal to us but there are plenty of other places nearby so it isn’t really a problem.

Room was clean and modern. loved all the artwork and decor Loved the luxury soaps and shampoos as well as plunger coffee...all those little touches don't go unnoticed!! bed and pillows were super comfortable and I loved the little nighttime chocolate.

Room was small but didn't feel it...but because of size it lacked a mini workspace.
