We stayed in the 4-bed shared room. The room was spacious and clean, however, both the bathroom and room are quite old and dated. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the kitchen super well equipped. There are very cozy common areas as well, garden and outdoor tables with views to the lake. Location is lakefront and near to shops/restaurants.

The room and bathroom need some renovation. There is no towel included and you have to pay 3$ for the towel. The tv in the media room does not work properly / is damaged. The fireplace in the living room was not working and would be nice to heat the common spaces on the cold days.

All the common spaces were awesome! Beautiful garden to chill in, outdoor kitchen and terrace to eat outside in the sun. Super cozy lounge inside with massive view on the lake. I was really impressed.

I had booked a twin room and we were given a bunk bed in the tiniest room I have had on rhus trip. The mattress is also quite worn down so not very comfy. Also we had a small kitchenette private to our room and a bottle of wine and water disappeared. We had not labelled it thinking this was not common space. No idea if it was the staff who cleaned it up or the neighbours who took it.

We stayed twice at the Lakefront Backpackers, before and after the Milford Track. It's the best and most affordable choice in Te Anau and a much better value than anything in Queenstown. A well run hostel. Very clean and many different hang out options. Great location by the lake. The bed was so comfortable with crisp linens. They have locker boxes for excess stuff while you are on trail. This first time, we stayed in the double room above the parking lot (9B). It has wide window front and a cute shared kitchenette.

Not a big issued, but just mentioning it here, the dedicated shared bathroom of this unit is outside, a short walk on the openair hallway. During our next stay, the bathroom was in unit which was more comfortable. There was no floor mat or hand towel in this bathroom. The bathroom during our next stay had it, so it must have just been an oversight.

We stayed in the glamping option and were pleasantly surprised by our experience. It was our first time staying in a backpackers’ hotel with shared facilities, like bathrooms, toilets, and a communal kitchen, so we were a bit nervous about the lack of privacy. However, we actually really enjoyed it! The bathrooms were exceptionally clean, and the glamping tent itself was cozy and comfortable. Although it got quite cold at night, the tent came with a heater and electric blanket, making it perfectly warm and toasty. We also made good use of the communal kitchen, which had nearly everything we needed for cooking, including plenty of pots and utensils. There were ample parking spots, and the hostel’s location right in front of the lake was beautiful. The staff was also incredibly kind and welcoming.

Service by staff - friendliness really matters for people travelling alone. Your crew were all good.

I wanted more space in my cabin. Also drawers, wardrobe etc. My clothes and bags had to lie on the floor, and with inadequate footspace around the bed I had to step on these things to get to the door. Those two little tables by the beds aren't big enough to hold everything. And the deck in front of the cabin: you have a table and two chairs but the deck is so narrow that the chairs can only face the table perpendicular to the doors. That's not what you want to do when you sit on the deck: you want to face outwards to see what is happening. So, the deck is too narrow now and the footspace around the beds is too narrow and there's nowhere to hang your gear.

This exceeded all my expectations for a backpackers. I have never stayed at a backpackers before and I was very pleased to find that there were a very diverse group of guests, all of whom were quiet and considerate. I stayed in a four bed room with three people I didn’t know, with no issues whatsoever, despite it being New Years! If, like me, you have never tried a backpackers, try this one. The location is primo, the rooms and linens are fresh and clean, it’s cheap, the staff are great, and it’s a hop, skip n jump over the hills to Milford Sound.

I stayed in a dorm of four. I loved that it was a single bed setup and so I need not worry much about movements on bed (usually the case for bunk beds). The bed was really comfy. The bathroom was well cleaned. The property has also enough spaces for parking. There were multiple sockets for me to charge my devices. I can also tell that the property evenly distributes guests onto rooms. Even though it was a room for four, I conveniently had to share with only one other person. It was also really quiet throughout the night and so, as a light sleeper, I was able to sleep comfortably. The property's location was superb! In front of the lake and close to the town centre. Though I had a car, I opted to walk to the town centre for dinner. I will def stay again. Highly recommend!

I loved the location and all the places to hangout on the property. Beautiful area around it of tables and chairs to sit outside and relax. Right across from the lake, walking distance to the stores, and good jumping point to go to Milford Sound and hikes in the area. Free parking out front

The beds weren’t the most comfortable and very squeaky/ loud to get in and out of. Could use at least one more toilet in the building with so many people but other than that it was good!

The room looked exactly like the pictures. The bio said a hairdryer was included - we couldn’t find one in the room but it may have been available on request. The room and bathroom appeared modern on the inside so looks like it had recently been renovated. Room was clean and comfortable, was a little cold and the heating intermittent but otherwise fine. Kitchen facilities were good, but quite crowded given the size of the hostel. There isn’t much parking at the hostel site but plenty on the street. Look out for the roaming cats who don’t appear to be afraid of the cars! Great location on the lake and within walking distance to the town.

The doors to the rooms could do with upgrading

Booked a private room with a lake view, above the main lounge area. Super comfortable room, high quality private bathroom (which was excellent after a few days of slumming it in the bush). The indoor kitchen was great, though crowded with everyone trying to cook at the same time. We made use of the outdoor cooking area, which was an absolute vibe even in the chilly weather. Loved the friendly neighbourhood cats roaming as well. In surprise to no-one, the smell of cooking brought three of them to the patio. Definitely a highlight.

N/A. Loved our stay, nothing to complain about!
