It’s great what the owner is doing with the property. Interesting to see the animals in petting farm.Perfect location for John O Groats visit. Proximity to Duncansby Head and Stacks. You can see lighthouse from room. Nice home-made bread. Advice from owner re local restaurants.
Room smallish and shared bathroom (but no problem as we knew in advance). Public transport to this remote area is limited so advice to other travellers using public transport is to be very organised. We got bus on departure (one every two hours to Thurso). Bus driver told us official bus stop is at the harbour but fortunately bus stopped for us near Sea View hotel.

The hostess was very welcoming, warm and friendly. The accommodation is just a short walk from the town up a quiet street, and only a short walk from a local hotel where they have a restaurant. The beds are very comfortable and one of the best I have slept in. I would definitely recommend puffin cottage for a quiet and comfortable stay. There is also a petting farm if you have small children.
There was no cooked breakfast only boiled eggs which you use an egg boiler yourself. There was cereals and fresh bread, fruit juice and coffee. There was yogurt and jams on offer. There was no shower only a bath and it was a shared bathroom with one other room.

Cara is a wonderful hostess. The B&B is located in a former croft house that includes a petting zoo. The rooms and breakfast room are decorated in a country fashion that includes flora, fauna and animals that are in the petting zoo. The room was very bright and accommodating. It was large enough that you could open your suitcase and still get around the room. The bed was very comfortable and cosey and there is a wardrobe and dresser to store your clothes. The breakfast room is open and airy. There are only 2 rooms at the croft, so breakfast is taken at one big table. Oatmeal, cereals and fresh baked bread are served as well as coffee, tea and a variety of juices. There is also an egg cooker. This place is extremely clean and inviting. It is located within walking distance to John O'Groats, and a short distance to Duncansby Head making it a great place to visit the most north easternly part of Scotland.
We weren't crazy about a shared bathroom, but we were only staying one night so it did not hinder our vacation in anyway.

There wasn't a cooked breakfast but there was a freshly cooked loaf of bread & a choice of Miss Puffins own brand of preserves or honey for breakfast each morning & a great choice of cereals or porridge, fruit, yoghurt & freshly laid eggs (which were amazing!) Also rooms were cosy & comfy & tastefully decorated with great views of surrounding countryside & we loved visiting the petting farm & feeding all the animals with chopped carrots from the shop & bought some amazing pasties, sausage rolls & cakes from the farm shop too. Also it was the perfect location for us to stay to go on the wildlife cruise & coach tour of the Orkney Isles from John O Groats.
Didn't like the kind of teabags provided for breakfast & outside the bedrooms & there was no TV provided at all but luckily WiFi was OK we had brought a laptop so we managed to watch a film on amazon prime each night that we stayed there. We were encouraged to book a table & eat at the nearby Seaview Hotel but didn't find the food that great there & went to the local chippie in John O Groats on the second night instead which was much better! :-)

It is the sweetest accommodation I've ever been in. Everything is made to the latest detail in very nice way. I don´t have enough words to describe it... You have to experience it :) Also the area is beautiful (the cliffs, walks around the little city, sheeps and also rabbits around...). I would definitely recommend to stay longer than one night. And be sure to visit the farm and little shop full of handmade things. I´m in love with this place and hopefully will come back one day :)

Cara was a lovely host. Rooms were clean and so comfortable with cute decor. Beds very comfy. Breakfast was super cute, laid out lovely with freshly baked bread, delicious. The animals were amazing, so nice to be able to go round and feed them all and pet them. A lovely cosy stay with a quirky edge. Would fully recommend. The farm shop sold great produce and locally made crafts which were beautiful. Both pubs within walking distance.
Nothing I can think of.

We had a lovely stay at Puffin Cottage. The host (Cara) was very welcoming and told us all about the petting farm she runs and how she cares for her animals. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast was delightful. Cara really is a very kind woman and the work she does is inspiring. Thank you.
This was not an issue for us, but we weren't initially aware that the bathroom was shared so I guess the lesson is 'Read what you're booking carefully!'

As we had booked both rooms, we had the whole cottage to ourselves, which meant that the shared bathroom was no problem. Beds were extremely comfortable and decor was lovely. Breakfast was laid out for us to help ourselves to when ready, and there was lots to choose from, including a freshly baked loaf of bread, and an egg boiling machine. Puffin cottage is a short 5 min walk from the iconic John o' Groats signpost, so we visited several times while we were there. The petting zoo was a little bonus, and it was nice to walk round and meet all the animals. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay, and wouldn't hesitate to return.
No stand-up shower in the bathroom, but it wasn't really a problem.

Breakfast was generous and excellent. Our kind hostess went out of her way, amidst a very busy schedule. A warm welcome. Meeting the animals (petting zoo) was a bonus and they made for accommodating neighbours.
Shared bathroom isn't ideal (though of course that was known in advance). That said, everything was scrupulously clean and comfortable. An ideal spot if you need to catch a ferry to Orkney or Shetrland, as we did.

We wanted to organize a trip to Orkney and the staff was wonderful in helping us. There is a petting zoo attached to the B&B and it was great to be able to feed the farm animals. The only restaurant in town is an easy walk from the B&B and served good food.
Although there was fresh baked brown bread each morning, the breakfast was a continental breakfast with limited other options.
