An ideal place to stay for a short trip to the southwest and lovely Shaftesbury, the stately Grosvenor has never disappointed. It combines the heritage appeal and atmosphere of an antique coaching inn with contemporary comforts and well-appointed rooms which somehow manage to seem simultaneously both modern and historic. The location - right in the centre of town - is hard to beat, with shops, pubs, car parking and the iconic Gold Hill only a very short stroll away. Breakfast was well cooked and the young staff friendly and accommodating. I like the Grosvenor very much and always look forward to the prospect of a night or two in this singular hotel when visiting my brother and his family in nearby Compton Abbas.
Nothing.

This hotel is everything a hotel should be. In the heart of a community, hosting events for locals to attend on a weekly basis and offering top class accomodation that makes out of towners want to move. On Saturday morning there is also a pop up bakery selling breads and pastries from a baker in the next town. Our stay was superb. The room was beautiful, stacks of teabags rather than the stingey two most places offer, and there was fresh milk. Toiletries were luxury and smelt like heaven, and there were even toothbrushes in case you had forgotten your own. The bath in the room had a great view of the telly so I could lie in it and watch The Traitors on Friday night, I dont think I have ever been happier. Bed was incredibly comfortable and the hotel was very quiet overnight, so much so that we had an undisturbed night which is rare. Honestly, I cannot fault this hotel and we will definitely be back. Great location too if you want to visit the famous Gold Hill, literally a two minute walk away. Park in the Angel Street/Lane car park as the hotel doesnt have its own, and again that is less than ten minutes walk away and only a few pounds overnight. Staff were all lovely too

This is a really nice hotel and restaurant, right in the centre of the beautiful town of Shaftesbury. The room was lovely and very comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was very good. Decent beers available in the bar.
The staff are good... if you can find them. Almost every time I went to the reception desk or bar to speak to someone, there was no one to be seen and I spent far too much time waiting around and/or looking for them. Once, I had to go a couple of steps into the kitchen and call out to get someone's attention (deep in conversation with other members of staff) -- and they were restaurant staff anyway, the reception and bar staff were fully AWOL. The room we had would benefit from the addition of a small fridge.

Very friendly and helpful staff especially when you are travelling alone. The food in the restaurant was exceptional. The bedroom was designed beautifully, the bed was very comfy and the bathroom was lovely. Little extras like the nice glasses, bottled water and the soaps and hand creams for use were noted and made it a little extra special.
- Directions to the room (I wasn't the only one who was getting lost)! - The room was quite drafty and whilst the radiator was adjustable I still felt the draft and heard a lot of noise from the road. - I love dogs and I appreciate dog friendly hotels but the last night the room next to me had a dog and the dog was barking in the early hours which wasn't appreciated, kept me up all through the night. A bit out of your control I know but the dog was noisy on and off and I really couldn't sleep. Having no one on reception through the night meant no one to mention this to.

Modern decor, so central it was brilliant. I cannot walk far distances due to my heath. We went to a wedding at the town hall so a few minutes walk.
There is no main light in the room which proved difficult with 2 ladies getting ready for a wedding.. I ended up sitting on the floor with the magnified make up mirror on a table to see. Also parking.. I had to pay an extra £16 to park in a public car park as the website says the hotel has parking it doesn’t. The car park was a walk away and carrying bags it wasn’t pleasant.

Big spacious room with large ensuite, both tastefully decorated. Lovely cosmetics provided. Huge comfortable bed. We didn't eat here but did have a reasonably priced drink in the comfortable bar. Great location. Overnight parking nearby, not too expensive. Highly recommended.
The evening menu was priced, but you have to add vegetables, sauces, fries, etc. to the price. I personally prefer a meal priced as a whole. It all added up quite pricy. I also thought that ot the breakfast menu. In my opinion, I like a selection on offer, including hot breakfast with toast and beverage for one price. This is why we chose to eat elsewhere.

Room was beautiful - great bed and amazing shower.
The overall reception team seemed a little unsure with questions about our booking and payment being incorrect. Perhaps a more official and warm welcome and goodbye could help. Notably very dusty computer desk : reception too so not the best first impression. Car park situation not great but know this can’t be helped.

The location is great , the staff were very good indeed.
Nothing really, the poached eggs were hard, we could have asked to have them remade but that was our choice . We stayed in room 6 , this is located at the front / road side I think the back rooms would be better next time as the road noise in the morning was quite loud .

Lovely historical building in the centre of Shaftesbury with local public car parks very close by. Rooms are decorated beautifully and bar downstairs seems popular with locals although not noisy. Restaurant was nice.
Maybe someone could suggest to the town council to save electricity and turn the Christmas lights off at night!!

Good spacious bedroom with comfy beds and large bathroom. Nice dining room and evening meal.
Rather more like a pub with rooms than a hotel. Quirky but very nice. Hit a very busy time on Mother,s Day which was not great for us. Very crowded. Our table for dinner was not vacant and we were put on a table for 6 (2 of us) next to Pizza area. Other areas of dining room were much nicer,.
