I really liked the friendly vibe and the wide variety of ages of people staying there. It has a well tooled community kitchen and a nice big table to eat at or set up laptops where guests interact. They also have a great common room with comfortable furniture and a variety of musical instruments and lots of videos to watch.

We were there when it was cold outside but sometimes when the central ventilation system came on it was blowing really cold air. But they also provided a good space heater to us.

This is a nice place full of character. It looked like a very popular place for climbers so a young community in general. The communal kitchen area is fully equipped with utensils, pots, pans, storage area, big fridges, microwave etc... and was buzzing in the morning with hikers making home made cooked breakfasts. The communal sitting area is relaxed with books, music, sofa etc... The private room/shower room is clean and the place is quiet at night (be prepared to be up early as this is a youth hostel with a range of people coming in and out). There is street parking and it seemed that the neighbourhood was safe.

You have to pay at the property (which is not a problem for us) but someone in the review mentioned it was cash only so I was prepared for that where in fact they took card only. So plan for it in your budget!!!

A hostel with a really nice vibe and plenty of character. Lovely outdoor sheltered area too and a lounge packed with books (and some musical instruments). Kitchen was clean and reasonable well equipped (& lots of free food & communal spices etc!). The mattrasses were comfy too. For a town of seemingly quite high accommodation prices this is good value too.

One bathroom (toilet+shower) between 12 in a dorm meant competition at times. Being a hostel and this location meant a huge variety of bed times and wake up times: climbers (and early starters for Yosemite - though this really is a long way away) getting up by 5am; others coming in and getting up late though of course this is not the hostel's fault more just a product of Bishop being a good location.

This is truly a backpacker hostel and it's got all the things you might need if you're on the PCT or JMT. Plentiful hiker boxes, loner clothes, easy access to laundry and food, AC, wifi, etc. Super laid back, chill, and nice vibes.

Hostels can never seem to figure out how to get plugs for each bunk and that's frustrating! There should be a power strip accessible from each bed. Definitely a major social and stoner vibe at this place, which is fine but if that's not your vibe I wouldn't recommend.

We received a warm welcome from the guy running the place, he gave a detailed tour of this lovely historic building & all it's facilities. The room was clean & comfortable & although not large, was certainly not cramped. The bathroom was clean & everything worked as expected. Located a few minutes walk from downtown Bishop where there is a good choice of places to eat & drink, if you don't want to cook in the hostel itself. Very friendly & easy going vibe in the hostel with it's large kitchen & choice of banjo, guitars & piano to play in it's equally large common room. Fun place to stay.

Good hostel. Really nice vibe. Lounge with lots of useful books / guides (& musical instruments). Kitchen had a good range of communal stuff making cooking easy (e.g. rice , spices, coffee).

The ratio of 12 bunks to 1 bathroom means inevitable waits at peak times. Also, as it attracts a wide variety of travellers, that does mean a wide variety of "get-up" times (e.g. climbers going out very early; general "tourists" coming back late).

Clean, organized, delivers what is offered and provides a good price for the traveler on a budget. The only challenge is what is common to all dorm rooms on a weekend with young adults in the room. But nothing some ear plugs or a long tiresome day outdoors will not help you sleep through.

The rooms were warm and cozy but the asumir was too dry due to the heater. Wish there was a less dry way of hearting the room. Dried up everybody’s throat and sinuses and made for a lot of snoring

Without a doubt, the staff. Kenneth (I seem to remember that the guy at the reception had that name) treated us kindly and explained all the amenities of the hotel to us. The hotel was very clean and very well organized. Excellent option in quality - price.

Nothing. Maybe I would say the parking lot, because I couldn't park there because it was very small, but I was able to park on the street.

The hostel is authentic and unique. It was a pleasure to stay there because of atmosphere. You can meet people there who travel in Sierra Nevada Mountains. And sometimes a casual talk may lead to an amazing adventure.

It was a little noisy after 10 pm. But I was so tired that I fell asleep instantly.

Great location and your typical hostel. I think we were the oldest couple there! We felt like the experience was a throwback to the 60's but overall people were friendly. It was a shared kitchen but very busy so the timing was important. The shared refrigerator was packed and they had a marker for you to mark your groceries.

The price! I booked online but paid at the hostel and I felt I was overcharged compared to the Booking.com price.
