Gorgeous location on the front steps of Abel Tasman (you are a hop, skip, and jump from the main Abel Tasman Track) with a great variety of facilities and options for lodging. I stayed in a cabin and was quite content with what was included (towels were a nice touch). Very friendly/knowledgeable front desk (they were more than happy to help arrange tours/water taxi for those who wanted it) and a well-stocked store (though only open 2-6). Also, the baguette cart is a great food option after a long days' hike on the Abel Tasman Track.
Shower drains clogged and water pressure was sporadic, though this is understandable, as you are off the grid. Also had to pay extra for a useable amount of internet (though not a whole lot, $5 for 10GB to use over 24hrs). Simply the nature of the beast when you are in an off-the-grid place like this. It is very much worth it after all.

Location and views from our pod were amazing. Kitchen area is well stocked with utensils and crockery to use. Site is a mix of all types of people so is great fun.
Not aimed at Barnes but Booking.com need to let people know that bathroom facilities are SHARED. Didn’t know this until we arrived and booking in team stated they had told Booking.com numerous times. You always get a small group who get drunk late at night and spoil it for others at 1.00 in the morning. Again, nothing Barns could have foresee. Would stay here again but they need bigger shower/toilet blocks (3 are not enough when busy)👍

A super atmosphere. Comfortable cabins. Super helpful staff. New toilet block is pleasant. Location is outstanding. Quiet after 11. A great place to begin the Abel Tasman track or to use the water taxi to go part of it. The staff are able to book this for you and make recommendations.
We didn’t know about the other kitchens so used the one close to our cabin where we stored our food. This was overcrowded at times and all of the cutlery and crockery were unavailable on two occasions. The toilets next to that kitchen were in need of refurbishment so we were glad to find the newer block.

Perfect for hiking the Abel Tasman track. Great accommodation, in the park and amazing bird song to wake up to in the morning! It’s a very chilled place, staff were lovely and super helpful, they have a terrace with a pool table and a coffee shop on site, there’s also the cafe 5 mins walk from barn and able Tasman aqua taxi so 10 mins walk. Toilet/ shower/ kitchen and laundry in the next hut over ( 2 kitchens and 3 shower huts with numerous showers in - I never had to wait) loads of utensils in the kitchen and only $4 for washing.
Nothing. It was good!

The concept is really fun. Instead of being a conventional hostel this is a camping where they have small chalets with a number of beds in it. I thought it was great, felt like I was camping again. The kitchen is bery cosy. The location is perfect as you can start hiking right from here, no need to even drive.
The shower I used seemed to be clogged. So it almost overflowed by the time I finished my shower. The reception was already closed, so I didn't really know who to tell or what to do, but it seems the showers might need a bit of a deeper cleaning session.

Though we only spent one night in one of the cabins we would definitely return for a longer period: - check-in and -out is very easy, the receptionist was kind and very helpful - common areas (kitchen, showers, toilet, laundry, movie room etc) are clean and well-equipped - the area is scenic with lots of program possibilities: walking, trekking, sailing, kayaking etc. As we only had half a day, we took a round-trip boat and it was an unforgettable experience - the local staff also helps in organizing such programs if needed
The rain :) otherwise we loved the place

1) I tried 2 of the showers out by the kitchen that was closed for the winter and I couldn't get either to have hot water. 2) It's such a beautiful place I wish tge lighting were different in the kitchen and the doors room. Tge doom room would be better with lamps or a lights with dimmer switched and lamp shades, would make a very big difference. The big fluorescent light in tge kitchen is harsh and the switch says to keep it on. It takes away from the coziness by the fire and the earthiness and homie feel of the kitchen and place. I highly recomend these changes and that's it. Such an awesome place!

One of the greatest camping sites in NZ, very fast cleaning groups keeping the hygenic peace and relaxed guests in the shared kitchen. Big plus was the little reception-shop ad also Matts fruit and veggie-wagon not far away outside on the street. Instead of concrete, you'll find a nice lawn and places kids can play and there are plenty of cooking facilities, showers and restrooms for all guests. You can do daytrips to the national park or just hang out at the friendly camping.

The place is beautiful, unbeatable location, space and surroundings. The facilities are nice and comfortable, clean and looked after. I love to be able to see the sunrise in the sea from the beautiful garden, and the bird's singing is a real plus!
My only concern is that it's becoming a bit expensive, the rooms have shared toilets and kitchen, my husband understood the big kitchen was closed, so we used the small one, which was packed with people, impossible to cook. Later I saw the big kitchen open, so it must have been my husband's mistake. Still, for that price we can afford a self contained cabin in golden bay, which is as stunning as marahau. But if price is not a concern, this place is pretty special and a real beauty. I would still go back if I can.

The staff at the reception are so friendly and informative. We asked her about the Abel Tasman walk and she was very thorough and patient with all our questions. The facilities are very clean. The bed is comfortable. The toilets and showers clean. There are so many games available on the property. The national park is 5’ walking distance. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. My friend stayed here before and she loved it so much she recommended it for me and I loved it too. There are restaurants nearby where one can get food easily. I highly recommend this place and probably stay here again when I come back.
