The owner went out of his way to make sure our stay was great. The meals were excellent in lovely setting. We took a walk up the hill to the temples which were beautiful.

The fact there was no direction to get there on public transport. It was very difficult to sort out, so here’s the directions. From Kyoto Station take the Ohara bus to Ohara (red bus). As the bus station walk through and over the river. Once over turn left and your there.

What a delight! Upon arrival I was offered a Yukata to wear while on the property. The gentleman, despite speaking no English, explained everything through the use of Google translator. I was offered a bike to explore the area, which I did before returning and taking a bath in their onsen before having a wonderful dinner in their dinning area. I slept extremely well on the futon mattress in the room. And rose to have a fabulous breakfast with 11 different items (yes, I counted them! :). After checking out, they kept my luggage while I explored the area a bit more. Visiting Ohara and Ryoso Chatani was a highlight of my trip to this region of the country! I highly recommend and would happily return the next time I’m visiting the area!

Nothing. Everything was lovely.

The hosts were very warm and friendly! They informed us if the hot baths were extended so that we would be able to stay in it longer than the listed 4pm-10pm. Also, when we thought we lost our cellphone there after departing on the bus, after we contacted them, they immediately went to look for it. We borrowed the free bikes and rode around the town. They provided us a map so we could navigate our way around. The view from the bike trails to the view from our bedroom was beautiful. Just like out of a painting. The pictures do not do this place justice. It's best to take it in with your own eyes! This place is an hour bus ride from Kyoto. You'll see people growing their own food and the local food places source from them! The pizza we had at one of the local places over ran the view of the river and it was a fantastic pizza. The baths are communal and the hot bath was fantastic. The women's bathroom especially was filled with lots of towels, pretty decorations, and lots of lotions for use. I like the face cleanser provided so much, I went and bought the same one! There are also two massage chairs in the women's baths. The men's baths had a foot massager. The bathrooms are also shared. They were freshly cleaned every single day! Also, we got yukatas to wear while staying there. We only stayed two nights, but the hosts kindly offered to let us change it daily. After we checked out, we were given beautiful magnet gifts of Kyoto sights. We highly recommend if you visit to bright a small gift from your home country like a local snack or candy to exchange gifts. Staying here was like staying with our lovely grandparents in the countryside. We spent two nights here in between our Tokyo and Osaka trips. We definitely recommend staying here to relax and slow down after shopping and visiting the active cities.

Everything was great!

Everything was perfect about this place. It is roughly an hour by bus from Kyoto, but it is only a short walk away from the bus stop and the views and calmness of the surroundings are precious. The Ryokan itself is not too big and very cosy. The owners speak just enough English to explain all the rules in simple words. There are cups, green tea and a thermos in the room. You can get more hot water in the shared kitchen. There is also a microwave and a refrigerator. Shared toilets are very tidy. The shared baths were a highlight of our trip. They are separated by gender and rather small, but the hot bath is fantastic. Women's changing room has face cleansers, hair brushes, hair bands, dryers etc. Futons in the room were very comfortable. The owners call your room to come for breakfast in the morning. Everything was delicious and we were really full afterwards. On checkout the host offered to take a picture of us next to the Ryokan. I cannot recommend this place enough! The quality of our stay was insanely good compared to the price. Would visit again.

Oh wow! where do i begin? Amazing property, exceptionally clean and the most amazing hosts. It is run by an elderly couple who are very helpful even with their limited English. The food was great and also flexible as per your dietary needs. We notified them about us being vegetarians and the meal was prepared accordingly. There is also cycle available for free, we used it in the morning to explore Ohara a little. The bus stop is 5-10 mins walk from the hotel. There are buses directly to Kyoto station. They also give you free magnets before you leave which was very nice gesture. The onsen was good as well.

everything was great, except that there should have been body massage chair for men as well just like for women.

This was one of the best vacation we had. Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay. Ohara (the location) was so lovely. The owners really try their best to communicate in english and make your stay comfortable and great. The property was very thoughtful. Owners meticulously considered how to pamper their guests. Highly, highly recommended.

In the other similar property we stayed at (near Mt. Fuji), they schedule guests for the use of onsen. While we didn’t have any problem with sharing bath and onsen with others, some would maybe appreciate a private set time of use.

- The couple managing the venue is incredibly friendly - The breakfast and dinner are copious and delicious, eating it with the other guests is a great experience - The location is incredible, close to the bus stop and central to the Ohara area which is famous for its temples - The room was comfortable and had everything you need - While it's a little far and costly from Kyoto center by bus, the price of the accommodation is extremely honest for the service - Last but not least, being surrounded by Japanese families enjoying a holiday break was a special experience!

- Nothing really, everything was honest and exactly as advertised, so no bad surprise!

We really enjoyed staying at the location with my brother. The area itself is very nice and the host was very kind to offer us bikes to cycle around the area. It was a very relaxing and peaceful experience, after a busy week rushing through Fukuoka and Tokyo

Something to keep in mind is that despite the house has lots of newer things built in to make guests feel comfortable, e.g. A/C, wi-fi, upgraded light controls, it is still made based on older Japanese traditions, so there are no black out curtains. It is advisable to go to bed early to get enough sleep

We took the bus from Kyoto station and it took around an hour to get there. The host didn't speak a ton of English but was super friendly and spoke enough to explain how everything worked. The dinner was amazing, more food than we could eat and tons of different courses like a true Japanese meal. The onsen was great and the women's had a massage chair in the dressing area that the women in my family loved. We borrowed the free bikes they had and did a little ride around the local area which was extremely beautiful and green. It was nice to get out of the city and just relax.

The beds were a little thin for our taste but that is how all the beds are in the other hotels we stayed at in Japan and seem to be more authentic.

Such a cozy place! Only 5-minute walk to the Ohara bus station. Ladies can choose their colorful bathrobe, and gentlemen have theirs in the room. The meals are delicious and abundant. The lovely decorations, light music, and soft scent inside the house made us quite relaxed. Never to mention the hot onsen! They provide almost everything you need, including different kinds of skincare products. Definitely a wonderful place to enjoy yourself. The owner really should have attached more photos on the website. It's far better than I imagined!

Nothing at all.
