We had a beautiful time at Seikiro Ryokan. Hospitality and facilities were incredible! Our breakfasts were tasty and filling and our dinner was beautifully presented. We had a private toilet and used the ryokan's onsen to wash and soak (a relaxing experience). Our room had a lovely view of the ryokan garden and Shimasaki Park. Our futons were comfortable and our tatami room had everything we needed for our stay. The train station is a 10 minute walk away, from which we could catch local trains and buses to Amanohashidate (and the train to and from Kyoto). The ryokan is a beautiful building with so much history, character and charm and was very clean and well maintained. I especially loved the little touches that come from generations of experience with the building and hosting guests, like where furniture is placed to best appreciate the view.

Most of the negative feedback from other guests seems to ignore that Seikiro Ryokan Historical Museum Hotel is (as the name suggests) an old, traditional ryokan with a lot of history. Staircases were narrow and steep, but this wasn't a problem for us. My partner's sensitive sinuses and allergies had a tough time (nose blowing in public in Japan is a no-no), but he managed ok with his medication. The facilities were in line with traditional, reasonably-priced ryokans and everywhere was very clean and well maintained.

Seikiro is a remarkable place--a historic time capsule of a ryokan. Rooms and common areas are dated, but in a comfortable way. The building dates back to around 1900 in places, and other areas were added about twenty years later. Some of the fixtures and fittings are original, and some are newer, but overall it's a time capsule. Dinner and breakfasts they prepared and served to me to were lovely, full of traditional Japanese dishes, and the staff explained each one carefully. I can tell how much loving care the family who runs it puts into it. The rooms were large and beautifully decorated, and the hotel was very quiet.

I was completely satisfied with my stay!

Historical building near Amanohashidate and Ine. This is a very old building with all the pros and cons that comes with it. The staff was welcoming. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience the onsen but it looked welcoming. The room was massive and comfortable. There are plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from. The museum part was very interesting.

This is just a minor side note that should not in any way stop you staying here. Unfortunately we had a few stink bugs in the room, we Just got rid of them with no issues but I guess this is one of the cons of such a beautiful historical building

The ryokan is family owned with long time history. You can tell they tried to refurbished some parts of the facilities. Owner very nice and friendly. Gentle reminder don't bring heavy luggages. Like other ryokan no elevators. I feel bad that the owner or the staff has to try to help with bringing luggages upstairs.

The public bath very small. Enough for 3 people. The changing area i think the best fit 2 people at one time. Very dangerous hand rail , as it half comes off already. Make sure you don't use the handrail when you step into the water. The bath water temperature is not hot enough but that's just personal preferences. The toilet next to public bath is those Japanese type that you have to bend down and squat. If you dont like to use this type better go to toilet in your room first

Nice spot near the beach and close to shops and some restaurants. Walkable to Amanohashidate about 25mins or 1 stop on train. Beautiful old building and polite staff!

Pillows provided were very firm! We tried to add breakfast onto our booking for the following morning on arrival at 11am to drop off our cases but they said it was too late. 22hrs before the breakfast is too late to order?? If you are wanting breakfast provided I would add it to the booking before you arrive.

It was my first time in a ryokan and I loved to stay there. Sadly it was only for one night. Since the building is old the sanitaries are old fashioned as well, but this adds to the charme of the ryokan in my opinion. The garden view was beautiful and the onsen was very relaxing. The elderly lady at the reception was extraordinarily kind. I can highly recommend staying there, I came here after my trip to Amanohashidate, it is only one station away by train.

Very kind and informative staff. Mr. Tokuda gave us a tour of the museum floor, and even played the traditional flute to acquaint us with Japanese music. He was very kind to tell us about the history of the several locations we planned to visit. He even gave us a ride back to the train station when we checked out.

Like most Japanese ryokans, the bath and toilet facilities are shared. Travelers should be aware of this beforehand (as we were).

This place is for those who want to try a very traditional Ryokan. Futons on tatami matting and a traditional onsen (shared hot tub). There is also a small hot tub in the room. The family have been running it for 13 generations. It is designated museum as they keep it as traditional as is possible. Our room gave onto a delightful Japanese garden just in from the coast and was very tranquil. This is not for people looking for modern conveniences.

Very large and well run establishment. Staff were always accommodating and friendly. Rooms have a lot of privacy with their own toilet and balcony. There is a very nice view over the coast. The futon was high quality and comfortable, with a heated object within to keep you warm on cold nights. Heating in general was impeccable on a rather cold night. Rooms are spacious with a lot of options regarding lighting. On the balcony you can sit, drink tea and have a chat. There is also an outdoor mirror and sink. Great for a solo traveller but also a great location for groups!

No private bath options so must use public bath, which has nothing special to it. Location was not anything special for me but may be favourable for those who wish to take bus to Amanohashidate or Ine.
