It was value for money and suited for a one night stay. The room was clean and comfortable.
The hotel is something of a time warp from a bygone age now mostly used by bus tours. The lift is rather antiquated and slow. The menu was fairly basic but you will struggle to find anywhere else to eat in Strathpeffer. Strathpeffer is a fairly sad looking town where a lot of establishments have shut.

Lovely stay at The Highland Hotel by compass, The hotel is a grand hotel with very traditional Scottish entrance with a beautiful staircase leading to the bedrooms that are very clean and modern and they had a different feel to the traditional hotel seemed like going back in time when you left your room. We really enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly and polite. We had dinner at the hotel £20 for 2 course or £25 for 3 course, food was lovely fresh and hot. Breakfast was self service but not much instruction on where the plates were for the cook breakfast you were left to your own devices.
When booking dinner reservations there was no price given and reception was keen to get us in for dinner but seemed relucted on giving us a price, We were given a menu but no price and had to ask a few more times for the price on food. When getting drinks from the bar, the bar staff informed us that the bistro does really nice food outside of the hotel, I was a little shocked that the staff were promoting other restaurants and not their own as the food at the hotel was delicious . More instruction on Breakfast to were the plates were as some guest were using side plates for the cooked breakfast. Would of liked fresh tea and coffee throughout breakfast, but this was also self service and was fairly 'Strewed' so not great to drink

Nice hotel in a small town 30min away from Inverness. It looks old, because it is, but the room is really nice, the bathroom was modernized. Big soft towels were a plus. I was afraid because of so many critics saying it had mold, infiltration and other structural problems, but I haven't seen any of these.
The lift is a bit to old, it can get you stuck. One of our beds was really unstable, but it held through 2 nights. The town is so small that it is not easy to find food late in the night. We were told that it was impossible though, despite the Chinese restaurant, but there is actually a nice Cafe behind the Hotel that serves food until quite late.

On arrival the reception staff were friendly and efficient as were all the hotel staff members throughout our short stay. The hotel is very old and decorated in the stereotypical Victorian Highland style, lots of tartan and clan memorabilia. A great location as a base for discovering this part of the highlands. Unfortunately and this is no reflection on the hotel, there is a lack of local pubs in Strathpeffer (nearest being in Dingwall) and just a few cafes and restaurants. Food at hotel was reasonable and priced accordingly. If looking for a quiet getaway this is perfect.

I love this hotel in particular and the entire hotel chain for its atmosphere of the beginning of the XX century combined with some Victorian vibes (especially if you are lucky to stay at the same time with coach tours and tourists of the average age 65+). Good facilities to spend evening in library or hall with a pint playing billiards or board games. The standard room is a little bit small but still there is everything you need there perfect for 1-2 nights.
The breakfast is poor, although it serves quite early. However, if you have time, the best option would be to have a breakfast in the cafe in front of the hotel starting from 9 am.

This used to be a very beautiful, posh and classy hotel a while ago. It is still a nice highland hotel located near Inverness, and we do recommend it, though the hotel is a bit run down and suffers from lack of good maintenance. The dinner was good, and the bar & common rooms were beautiful. Comfy bed and duvet, nice bathroom, spacious rooms. Free parking. Short distance to small local shops and cafés. We recommend to see the Touchstone Maze and Castle Leod nearby.
The rooms are quite noisy (thin walls), a bit mouldy and run down and have filthy stains on the walls and ceilings. There were also extremely filthy & sticky hall doors on all the floors that easily could have been cleaned. We understand that the staff members have plenty to do during high season, but a bit more TLC in general would do the hotel more justice. Some of the staff members were very helpful, while some were a bit unprofessional and less service-minded. The breakfast was ok, we are not that fussy, but it might be ok to know that it consisted mostly of hot greasy food (no fried, boiled or poached eggs), only jam and cereal. No ham or cheese.

Great stay. Lovely staff, easy check in check out. Comfy bed. They didnt Charged for the dog thats a big Bonus. Lovely Tartan lift. Hotel is very spwcial with a very nice Atmosphare Would highly Recommend and we definitiv will be back soon
The Floor were bit Dirty. Lots of cobwebs in Room. Bit more maintenance for the garden. We went for Dinner, there was mich to use and you have to take either 2 or 3 course. Dinner wasnt what we espected and paid for and not much on plate. Had the same for as my wife and she almost had the double amount.. If we stay again we would rather choose to eat some where else But all over a very nice, charming Hotel

I recently stayed at this remarkable hotel, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. The building's rich history is one of its most charming features. It's beautifully preserved, making you feel as if you've stepped back in time while still enjoying all the modern comforts. The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful, making my stay even more enjoyable. They go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcome. One of the unique highlights for me was the tap water—it's some of the best I've ever had! It might sound simple, but it's these little details that truly make a difference. The hotel's decoration is stunning, making you feel like you're living in a castle. The lobby, in particular, is breathtaking—perfect for relaxing or meeting with friends.Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who appreciates history, excellent service, and a touch of magic in their stay. I can't wait to return!

large spacious property friendly staff comfortable bed quiet room food was acceptable lovely old building with a lot of history, beautiful surroundings nice selection of breakfast options - if a bit standard !
The building needs a lot of attention - my bedroom in particular was shabby with really bad peeling paint on the bathroom radiator, scuffed walls, windows were clearly needing replaced and were very dirty Furniture was shabby and very much past its best - scuffed and worn bedroom chairs etc Hairdryer was old and more noisey than effective at drying hair! several areas of the building can be seen as needing refurbisment Clearly caterng to the tourbus clients and i accepted that while the food was ok- it could have been better I do however accept that as it is a lovely old and very big building with a lot of history, renovations would cost a fortune
