Excellent attentive and friendly staff particularly the Bar man Adrian. Open fires in reception area very homely and welcoming. Location overlooking the bay was magical. Food good quality and tasty. Good shower and plenty fluffy towels. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner provided.
Old windows in bedroom very draughty. Single room very small and not much space. No need for so many pillows and cushions on bed for one person-I only used two but there was no space to leave the additional two pillows and 3 cushions that just clogged up the space.

The location was great. Lovely old well-maintained building, lots of character! Very warm and friendly staff, and my room was great! I found the bed very comfortable, and the ensuite was fresh and pleasant - always hot water for the shower. I liked the choice of TV channels, and loved the view from my window, over the bay and little islands, the woods and mountains. Lots of good food available at breakfast, with plenty of tea/coffee. Dinner in the restaurant was of an exceptionally high standard. Really delicious, and beautifully presented. Open fire in the lobby, occasionally, was lovely. The boat to Garnish Island is just across the road and down a bit. The trip across was a pleasure, with John pointing out seals on a rock, and the house where the actress Maureen O'Hara lived for 40 years. Garinish is beautiful, even in late March. Coming back, we saw a White Tailed Eagle! Astonishing! Also near the hotel is The Blue Pool, a lovely walkway around an inlet of the bay. I also climbed the 188 rough steps to Lady Bantry's Lookout. Well worth the climb! Wonderful views!
No complaints at all.

The staff were incredible. So friendly, polite and helpful. They went above and beyond in assisting us. The rooms were recently redecorated and we had a large bathroom. The food was excellent.
The main issue was internal accessibility. My mum was using wheelchair. The restaurant was up 7 steps, and there was no other way of accessing it. Being built in the 1700s, I expected some accessibility issues.

I liked that this retains a feel of its old school individual character as opposed to the generic bland corporate hotels that are so common.
there was a wedding on the first night of our stay and one guest tried to bring the party to her room leading to drunken shouting arguments with the unfortunate night porter (I felt sorry for him in an awful situation) which went on intermittently from 3am to 5am. The same woman had the cheek to shamelessly complain at check out, (we happened to be at reception the next morning to have the pleasure of hearing her voice again) about the drinks bill “her friends” added to her room after abusing and intimidating the night porter for drinks after hours.

Beautiful location Excellent food - best sweet I ever had! Very good staff, well trained and helpful Very clean Lovely reception area and restaurant
Room was cold as window was open when we arrived and heat off. When we put radiators on we were roasted - no way to regulate heat. Fan in bathroom not working so bathroom steam didn’t clear therefore it smelt fusty. To be fair when it was reported maintenance did come but were unable to fix it then and then as it needed an electrician.

I love that it had character. Even though it was a bit like a maze to navigate- this added to the character and charm of the hotel. The food was amazing. The staff were extremely professional, helpful and friendly. The spa was relaxing. The room was comfortable although a little cold.
The bathroom in the family room is quite small- no shelf to place items. A little chilly also. Our elderly mum was with us and struggled a bit with the steps- this may be helpful to be aware of when booking. However she made it and it didn’t take away from our enjoyment of an excellent night away!

No view as we had a back room but this was not a problem as we knew this when we booked. The room was not ready when we arrived although we arrived after the specified time. The staff were friendly and the food is good.
All in all the hotel is starting to look very grubby and needs a facelift badly. But I wouldn't let this put me off of a visit to Glengarriff as it is a wonderful location and the location and staff easily made up for the the slight failings of the hotel condition.

Old world charm and plenty of space
Too much car parking space right up to entrance, could do with some landscaping to make better use of prime location and views

I loved the location, while enjoying my delicious meal in front of beautiful views of a calm bay complete with swans!! Although the dining room was too cold. Maybe more heaters on full would have made the experience more comfortable.
The cold! The dining area, although spectacular, was just too cold, and this is in July! I know it's an irish July, but that can be easily resolved with plenty of heaters turned on, I'm not sure if the heaters that are present, I saw one mounted on the wall, are on.

Nice to have the experience of staying in one of the oldest hotels in Ireland (a bucket list). Staff were friendly, Breakfast was lovely, Nice trad session in the hotel lobby area.
One lift, and you needed to hike to your hotel room with all your luggage. The ceilings need to be cleaned, full of cobwebs, and the bathroom was too small for a double king-size room. I had pre-paid for the room in advance and had been told I didn't pay, plus the amount of invoice was higher they I additional paid.
