Location is excellent. Easy walk to town centre and waterfront. People are very friendly and welcoming. Food is reasonably priced. Room was clean with linen etc changed regularly. Room temperature was perfect.
Although bathroom looked as though it had been upgraded fairly recently the grout and sealers in and around shower need replacement as already got quite bad mould showing. Found it strange that breakfast potato scones were in the warming tray as this meant they were no longer crispy. Could be easily fixed by asking clients if the would like scones and having them freshly prepared as breakfast was good other than this minor point. Fixing these minor details would elevate the experience greatly as it is one of the more expensive places to stay in Greenock.

excellent location for us as we have family in Greenock. The downstairs set up is lovely with a bar and function room upstairs but a further bar downstairs serving food, drink and cocktails. It has a lovely courtyard to sit in if the weather permits. They held functions in the downstairs room and we enjoyed the no paper and pens quiz!
We have stayed at the Tontine many times. We like that is is a privately owned individual hotel. However the bedrooms are in need of a refurb and the pillows especially need to be replaced. The breakfast eggs were not up to standard but otherwise there is a good offering of food.

We booked one of the deluxe double rooms for a night and we were very happy with it. Room was spacious, clean and the bed really big and comfy Shower is a mixer tap with hose but the pressure was fantastic on it and easy to use to get the right temperature, bathroom was immaculate We had no complaints about breakfast, my partner could only eat the vegetarian options and is very fussy but even he had extra (he never does that lol) We didn’t have many interactions with staff, only when checking in, breakfast and when leaving but all where very pleasant I had read some other reviews before booking and I wasn’t sure at the time but so glad we did 😁
No complaints from us

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was my 1st impression, which counts for a lot. The room and bathroom were clean and well appointed. The bar was open 24 hours, and the restaurant open from midday until 21.00. I had dinner there the 2nd night, and couldn't finish my mixed grill, there was that much.
I had breakfast which is a buffet style, help yourself affair. The fried eggs, of which there were plenty, had dried out somewhat. I was probably at fault for NOT asking for fresh ones, I'm sure they would have been forthcoming. The only other thing, the pillows in my room, of which there were plenty, all seemed a bit flat.

The location was good and the welcome excellent. The hotel interior is very interesting because of its age and design. Bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The bathroom and shower were good.
The room was smaller than we expected for the price and the room facilities felt a bit sparce, for example no fridge, no biscuits etc. Breakfast choices were excellent but service made the whole thing very uncomfortable. My wife ordered porridge followed by poached egg on toast. The egg arrived on a plate by itself and she was told to get her toast from the toaster in the dining room, by which time her egg was cold. Then her porridge arrived! It was cold and lumpy - obviously was not fresh. My full breakfast was very good.

A great stay.Staff were all lovely. They were very welcoming and friendly. They were amazing, a great asset to the hotel. My room was very spacious and very comfortable. Bathroom big, and I enjoyed the bath I had. The cooked breakfast was great and not greasy, even though it was a buffet. It's one of the best buffet cooked breakfasts I have had. A guge plus for me was that there was a bath mat in the bathroom to avoid slips in the bath/ shower
Minor details. I spoke to the reception about them and they were very receptive.

The checking in experience was very easy and straight forward, the receptionist was extremely helpful, friendly and able to answer any questions we had. The breakfast staff on the Sunday morning were young ladies and they were very helpful, smiling(always lovely to see in staff)and kind. The buffet breakfast was lovely and fresh(especially the mushrooms) The bathroom was very tidy as was the room. There was good information for things to do and it was excellent to see a bible in the drawer(you don't see these in many hotels these days). The hotel menu for snacks etc is very reasonably priced also. Having a smart TV in the room was also a lovely bonus. The Christmas decorations were lovely and very festive. It is always a real treat coming here.
The only gripe with my partner, was she found her bed uncomfortable and too hard, but that didn't take away everything she loved about the hotel and definitely wants to come back again. There isn't anything else to consider as a negative.

The hotel is wonderful. It looks as if it comes right out of an Agatha Christie movie. Huge halls, huge rooms, We were welcomed very warmly, the hotel staff was always very friendly, and you feel that it is still, even nowadays, a family run hotel. The breakfast is delicious, we were able to sit in the bar area, which we enjoyed a lot. The restaurant served huge, tasty meals as well. The rooms were tidy and spacey. Parking directly in front of the hotel, there's absolutely no problem in getting a space there. And you can walk on foot to the esplanade and watch the cruise ships sail in and out - or the old paddle steamer, if you're lucky. Would definitely visit again. Had a great stay!

Room at the back away from noise. nice size and comfortable clean but bathroom whilst modern needs the grouting in the shower cleaning more vigorously. good nights sleep and a good breakfast buffet style. great for a stopover. Staff are helpful and I was allowed to park my car for several days whilst on a cruise. Price for leaving the car was very competitive and reasonable. would stay again if passing
just a little more attention to the bathroom cleanliness otherwise well done to the staff.

All the staff were really great. We were staying for a funeral and had a buffet event in the function room, the staff didn't rush us and looked after us really well.
I was staying 2 nights and had breakfast on the second morning. My companions recommended the breakfast having had it the previous morning and said it was really good. However they said the breakfast on the second morning was not nearly as good. So i felt disappointed with the inconsistency. My breakfast was nice enough, well cooked and good flavours etc.
