November 2024
We had a very comfortable stay at The George Hotel on 15 November 2024. We had a dog friendly room which was very clean and had a very comfortable king size bed. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful. The evening meal and breakfast were great. The icing on the cake was that when we accidentally left a coat in the room the staff posted it back to us very promptly. Excellent customer service. Thank you
I wish I had checked the parking location more thoroughly beforehand. The car park is behind the hotel but with the one way system - and perhaps me misreading the sat nav - it was a little tricky to find in the dark.

The staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout the stay. The hotel is a beautiful old building with loads of character, but the rooms have clearly been upgraded with more modern bathrooms and beds. The breakfast was very good. Location is ideal for exploring town.
The parking could be slightly frustrating - although space was readily available out the front and the hotel provided a parking pass, the need to move the car at 09:00 was fine for us as we had to get on the road anyway, but might have been slightly inconvenience if you were staying for a few days - which everything else about The George would make us want to do! There seemed to be parking elsewhere in town to move to though. A minor issue when you get to stay in such a central, characterful place!!

The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Lovely room, upgraded to Club double. Had dinner when we arrived and the food was lovely. Breakfast was nice with a good variety available. We were in Penrith for a family funeral, and if it wasn't for commitment at home we would have loved to have stayed longer and enjoyed the hotel more.
The entrance for the car park is a different post code to the hotel address. Had I have missed the turning it was a long way to get back round the one-way system. Perhaps the car park post code should be included in the hotel iformation

I have been visiting Penrith for over 25 years . I haven't ever stayed in the town before . I booked The George on this occasion for 3 x nights with my partner . The hotel was a very pleasant surprise , in its quality & comfort. We found the hotel to be welcoming clean & comfortable. We dined on our final evening - the quality of the food & service was excellent - likewise our morning breakfast was nicely presented & delicious .
The £3 surcharge for Parking was a little disappointing- it wasn't "a significant factor" but hadn't been stayed on booking .

Staff were exceptional. Very friendly and attentive. Nothing to much trouble. A box of chocolates left in my room for my birthday. Thank you. A lovely gesture. Breakfast excellent Bar facilities and service excellent. Facilities in room good. Tea Coffee, etc. Iron & ironing board, hairdryer. Nice to also have a bath, not just shower. Hotel is an old traditional building with lots of character. Central for shops bars and restaurants
Room quite small. No view. It was very warm. fan provided. Was given a choice to upgrade at extra cost, but I thought what we had already paid was sufficient. WiFi in room poor.

We stayed one night on the way to a music festival and then one night on the way back. Room on the first visit (14) was a little cramped but clean and comfortable. The room on our return visit (10) was more spacious and equally comfortable. Breakfast was very good on both stays.
On our first stay we went to the bar for a drink but there was no-one serving. We enquired at reception and were told that there should be someone there and we should wait. We waited for a further 10 minutes and then gave up and went out. We found a lovely bar down the road and had a quiet drink there instead.

The front desk staff, the breakfast crew, and the cleaners were absolutely friendly and engaging. The buffet and cooked breakfast were all very good. The room decor was simple, crisp, and very uplifting. The bed was slightly higher off the ground than standard, which we favoured (easier for people like us with back issues to get on and off). Lovely view of the town centre from our room (2nd or 3rd floor, I can't remember). We also got lucky with parking and had a spot right in front of the hotel.
I can't think of anything negative! We were only passing through Penrigh and only spent one night in this hotel, and the room was so lovely and comfortable, I would like to have had more time to enjoy it. I think it would be a great place to 'cocoon'nwith a book or a partner in winter!

Very helpful and friendly staff, especially Ashley and Ben. They were so helpful and friendly. The room was really nice and the breakfasts were very good.. So much choice.
We didn't like that no one had told us about the live music on the Sunday, we would of definitely stayed in the hotel to watch this, if we had known. We didn't like being asked for the car parking twice. When we arrived we paid the £3 in cash to reception lady. When we checked out we were asked again, it was a bit embarrassing having to explain to the receptionist.

Loved this property it’s rooms were beautiful and it had lots of historic charm, although those rooms which hadn’t been renovated were not as good as those which had been. The staff were all lovely and very professional, always there to help. Would definitely go back
It was excessively hot unfortunately believe though it was to do with the ancient heating system, it was only a problem at night when the heating was not needed

Really enjoyed staying here on arrival it's a good car park and costs £3 to keep it there, room was really nice I was hoping for a bath but got a big shower cubicle instead which was nice, TV with all your apps to watch Netflix/prime etc, bed was comfy and also glad the room came with a fan because had to use it, breakfast was really nice, the area was amazing also, the main focus is how close this hotel is to everything you need.
I was hoping for a bath, found a bit of rubbish in the room like a toothpick but this is being picky, I would definitely stop again.
