The hotel was in a very good place in Chelmsford. Very close to main bus and railway station. No noise from other guests. Desk clerk was very friendly and restaurant was nice with great food and professional service. Hotel room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities. Nice clean sheets and very hot water in bathroom. Shower was very nice and bath too. Complementary essentials. White fluffy towels. I will definitely stay here again.
Room was bit too hot for sleeping even though the heating was not on so I had no control over the temperature other than to open the windows which I did not want to do. Had to put towel at bottom of main door to stop light from hallway. No big deal but bit annoying.

Comfortable, well equipped room rounded off by an excellent full English breakfast. Includes a lift to help those with mobility issues to move between floors; worked perfectly. Easily accessed car park on site. We had been warned that there might be organised events in the meeting room that could go on until late in the evening, often with music but even though our room was located at the front of the hotel we were not disturbed at all by the late night folks.
I was concerned that our room at the front of the hotel (looking onto the street) might be noisy on Saturday night but our fears proved unfounded.

My favourite local hotel , best place to stay and the staff are exceptional in what they do and how they treat me . Always friendly, great communication, knowledgeable, welcoming. Delicious food served especially the steak 🥩 with 🍟 frites and their local gin ,Essex based . I just want to acknowledge Yulia, Cody, Andra and Andreea. Nothing is too difficult for the staff , they go out of their way to accommodate their customers needs. Thank you very much for all you do 🙏💕 Car parking is safe at this hotel. Location is perfect for Town centre.

The staff were very friendly, polite, professional and helpful. We had a large double on 2nd floor which was clean and comfortable. We didn’t eat there because we had all Meals planned with friends but the restaurant looked quite classy and menu looked above average. It had vegetarian options and willingness to cater for dietary requirements. We did have a drink in the bar / lounge which was spacious with a good atmosphere.
Or is a bit of a labyrinth if you’re on second floor at the back and lift only goes to level 1. However that is part of its charm and staff did offer to help with luggage.

Comfortable good size rooms & beds, extra blanket provided, needed as westher suddenly cold. Fresh milk in mini bar, good range of tea / coffees. Helpful reception staff. Meals v good, staff highly professional & courteous at dinner & breakfast. Reasonable range of gluten free options for starters / mains in evening. Plenty of parking.
Bedrooms cold (sudden change in weather & radiators hadn't been serviced/ bled. Sure it would have been sorted had we mentioned it but only staying 1 night so not a major problem). Limited gluten free options for puddings, nothing on room service & limited at breakfast with no obvious bread / cereal (might have been available on request had it been wanted).

Excellent location close to city centre (walking distance) with plenty of parking for hotel guests. Quiet. Lovely very helpful staff who responded positively and promptly to any request we made. Liked the tea and coffee making facilities in the room…not the couple of tea bags and sachets of instant coffee one often gets. Here in the room was a variety of herbal teas available as well as black tea, drinking chocolate and a capsule coffee maker with plenty of capsules. In the fridge every day was a small bottle of fresh milk.
Only small things (1) the bar and restaurant menus were good and the food lovely and plentiful servings. But it was the same menu Monday to Saturday - a different menu on Sundays) . For brief visits this is not a problem, but we were here for a week so the menu became repetitious. (2) the liquid soap dispenser in the shower was fine for me but too high for my wife to reach easily. Installers of any items should realise humans come in different shapes and sizes!

The County is looking a little tired by modern standards, but it has maintained professional, old school quality service throughout the hotel, is spotlessly clean and well maintained. There is a lift to the first floor, but access to the second floor is by stairs only. Rooms are well equipped and there is fast, complimentary wi-fi access, good enough to stream TV. Large, comfortable bed though the shower (on the second floor room) needed a little coaxing seemingly low on pressure at times of demand. On site car park, although chargeable, very welcomed in such close proximity to the town centre. Excellent restaurant and great breakfast. Staff extremely welcoming, courteous and helpful.
Bathroom fittings a little tired and slightly eccentric plumbing (hot water close to boiling!) Stairs through a rabbit warren of corridors to access second floor rooms.

The reception manager that checked me in and all of the other hotel staff that I met and engaged with were incredibly friendly and helpful. I was given an unexpected room upgrade from a standard double to an executive double which was much larger with was looked like a recently upgraded very large bathroom with shower and bath. The room was immaculately clean and had a quality coffee machine with a good selection of coffee, tea, biscuits and milk in the fridge. A hair dryer located next to a mirror is also a great addition to the room.
The hotel is an older traditional hotel and it lacked a bit of character but it was very clean. I ate in the main restaurant the food was great and nicely presented but as a solo traveller the restaurant lacked ambience and atmosphere. My bed whilst very large the mattress felt low quality and hard and would benefit from a comfort topper and some decent pillows.

Our expectations were not high as we had always known The County Hotel as an old hotel in need of TLC. How wrong were we! The hotel has been refurbished in the last few years and we walked into a room with the smell of brand new carpet, paint and fresh curtains. The room was spacious and light (with two floor to ceiling double-glazed windows, one of which led onto a small balcony. The room overlooked the side entrance to the hotel and part of the car park but was very quiet. The main areas of the hotel had also been refurbished in recent times. The bar was beautifully furnished and all the bar staff and reception staff were very friendly. Breakfast was very nice and the dining room was nicely decorated with very helpful staff too. A joy from start to finish.
Obviously always room for improvement but as it stands a very nice hotel for a few nights in Chelmsford or even just one overnight stay to sample the town's nightlife. We will be back.

Very comfortable & quiet room, even though a function was held on the Saturday. I thank the person at reception who accommodated my request. Excellent location. I needed access to both buses and trains, none better. Comfortable bar area, super service 👌
Poor Internet (room 78) failed to connect most of the time. When it did, it dropped frequently. Quality of food I ate- below standard. I ordered a Croque monsieur (CM), thus was more a ham sandwich with a small amount of cheese melted in top- this is NOT a CM! Order Eggs benedict- poor quality ham and the sauce was luke warm. By the end of the dish, let's say cold. However, ordered Fish & chips for an evening meal this was better. Heavy on batter, but acceptable. Overall, I cannot rate the quality of the food more than 4/10
