The dinner, high tea, and breakfast areas were spacious and delightfully decorated with an eye to easy comfort and respectability. The surrounding moors and tor were fun for a walkabout. There was a proper snow while i was there and hay tor hill was covered with sledders, dogs and hikers. I spotted a herd of wild horses hanging around the trail to hay tor munching on the snow covered bushes. After my day on the moors, there was a handy entrance through the hotel boot room, with bench and towels to shake off the snow. My room had a hot towel rack that dried my clothes and gloves by morning. The dinners and breakfast were prepared by skilled chefs and were good looking and delicious. I highly recommend the moorland hotel for a relaxing stay on the moors.

The toilet paper rolls ran out fast, but the hotel graciously replaced them on request

A friendly and welcoming place to stay, with direct access to Dartmoor. An ideal base for visiting local attractions, walking across the moor or simply unwinding. The hotel is comfortable and well-appointed, with very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Dogs were made very welcome, with even a place to wash dogs and boots! There was a good choice of food, which was beautifully presented, tasted amazing and reasonably priced, whether eating in the restaurant or the bar. The cosy lounge is perfect for pre-dinner drinks, coffee after a meal or afternoon tea. The bedroom was spotlessly clean, with all the usual facilities, including a fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, Dyson hairdryer, DAB radio and lovely toiletries. Thoroughly recommended and we would have no hesitation in making a return visit.

Nothing - it was fantastic!

Fantastic location in the heart of Dartmoor with multiple walking/cycling/driving opportunities immediately outside the grounds. Very spacious ground floor dog friendly room with super comfy bed and double doors opening out into the grounds, which are beautiful. Bar is dog friendly and offers a lovely atmosphere and a good choice of food. Lots of free parking.

Despite being dog friendly, dogs are not allowed in the restaurant or function rooms. As we were there for an 80th birthday lunch in one of the function rooms, this was a bit of an issue. Staff are happy for the dog to be left in our room, but our dog isn’t too good being left along in a strange place. The room good also do with gentle updating and TLC as it was a little tired.

Location was great for the moors. The staff were all lovely and helpful. Food was great at breakfast and dinner. Grounds were kept very well. Looks like a perfect setting for a wedding or big event.

The service was a little slow at mealtimes. Not sure if maybe they were short of staff. The rooms were nice but a little small. Very hot at night. No thermostat but could open the window a little. There was a fan in the wardrobe but we lacked the space to put it what with needing to charge devices and having a few days worth of luggage. Really, really creaky floorboards. When someone is moving around above you you really know about it.

This was an absolute treat for myself and exceeded expectations. Warm welcome, ample parking, perfect location (easy to get to and explore Dartmoor from), great size room and bathroom, enough food choices in a choice of lounge, conservatory, and bar restaurant. Breakfast was perfect. Tasteful decor throughout and stunning grounds.Lovely radio, fridge and teas, coffeesin room, superb hairdryer. Felt completely at ease and safe as a solo female visitor.

Only thing could have been better was room view as mine was above kitchen so looked onto flat roof with 'humming' boiler pipes and warm rooms so needed a window open overnight. Slept peacefully though with earplugs and im a light sleeper! There was no noise from other guests or lift outside and I do believe I'd taken the final, last minute room.

Well I'm actually lost for words the staff were more than helpful good wifi as there is poor phone service it's in the beautiful Dartmore moors as you approach on a misty night the sherlock Holmes film the hound of the baskervils comes to mind food was cooked just how I like it beautifully presented and simply delicious drinks excellent and a very good wine list cleaning staff must have been recruited from a surgical ward the place is so clean the decor was so quirky and tasteful if you like murder mystery then a portrait of Agatha christy is there I believe her house is not far .Dartmore ponies roam along the road adding to the ambience of the place yes I would definitely stay again .

Hard to get a taxi as we were attending a wedding 3 miles away in colehayes house but this has nothing to do with this marvellous hotel

Relaxed and friendly atmosphere with welcoming staff. Beautiful location and very quiet. Lots of seating available in the beautifully decoated lounge and bar areas. Comfortable beds and very clean rooms. Lots of car parking available with no pre booking required. Food was well cooked and well presented. Very good breakfast options.

Arrived on a Monday late afternoon and chose to eat in the restaurant but many dishes were not available and we were informed after we had made our choices, which was frustrating. The food was little overpriced for what was actually served. The shower was an overwatch shower and wasn't particularly user friendly. A seperate cubicle would have been much nicer. No one was readily available on reception when we wanted to check out at 8 am.

Beautiful hotel on the edge of the moor and just below Haytor rocks. The hotel is spacious and delightfully designed with a lovely lounge, a relaxing bar and a restaurant with beautiful view across the gardens and valleys and the sea. The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful, and willing to do the extra bit to make your stay comfortable. The rooms are clean, comfortable and with all the facilities down to a nespresso machine; and the breakfast has a big range of very fresh food from fruit to traditional full English. We've stayed there before, and we'll definitely visit again.

The grounds were lovely and located so close to the national park, the room we booked was huge! And they were so dog friendly :)

Clearly an old building - could hear all the footsteps from the room above and crack in the front door could hear everything in the corridor which means they could hear us. Also lots of very small country roads to get access from our previous location - quite dangerous and skilful driving needed. To top off the hotel, spa facilities would make it fantastic. Quite pricey but did include breakfast which was delicious! Check out at 12pm would be nicer than 11am with breakfast until 10am, would need more time to have a lay in, eat breakfast, shower and pack up but also some time to enjoy the sunshine in the morning around the grounds.

I loved the special little extras they done like the dog welcome pack, our dog loved the ball, the lavender spray to help you sleep, walking in room to soft music playing and the nice little note left for us. The room was clean had all you needed in it, the bed was so comfortable and having doors that opened into the garden was so handy for when our dog needed to go toilet. The staff were so friendly and professional and made our dog at home he even had special dog sausages for breakfast. The food was delicious and the choice for breakfast was excellent went away full and ready to start the day. Lovely hotel and we will definitely be visiting again.

Hate to complain as everything was so excellent but the one thing that spoiled it for us was the people in room above us were very loud a lot of loud talking and banging around which carried on till gone midnight. Once they finally decided to shut up the place was so lovely and quiet you could hear a pin drop.
