It's a lovely old hotel with a welcoming garden. The perfect spot to relax and enjoy a drink on a summer's afternoon.
A bit more thought needed re the layout of the room. For example, the mirror was in a dark spot rather than close to a window so the natural light could be benefitted from - putting on a bit of make up etc. A coffee machine & kettle propped up on a tiny table away from tea/coffee on the other side of the room - bizarre - and then the little fridge from milk in another corner, rather than placed together. Not exactly practical 🤷♀️ Only one veggie starter & main course option on the restaurant menu......

Our room was very pleasant and our two little dogs were well catered for, which was much appreciated. The dinner was good, staff very pleasant, charming & fun to talk to and we were able to talk with other guests at adjoining tables which was most enjoyable. We liked the ambience of the dining room, well laid out with smart linen table clothes but without being pretentious.
My full english breakfast was fine but the sausage could have been tastier and the toast not so dry. My wife's crushed avocado on toast had to be returned as she is allergic to pepper. However, apologies were given immediately and it was very nice when it came back. Very minor points but be good to improve on these little details where possible, even though we know things are rarely completely perfect.

We’ve been to this hotel many times - possibly our favourite hotel in the UK. The staff are really friendly and always go out of their way to help in any way they can - truly exceptional. The rooms are excellent with good, modern facilities. The lounge is large and very social. The food is top quality, restaurant standard, as is the service. Although we still haven’t actually taken our dog here with us, it’s very much a dog friendly hotel. There are walks immediately from the hotel, for example the 5 mile circular walk along the river to Fingle Bridge Inn and back the other side of the river - truly picturesque.
There’s nothing to dislike about the hotel, unless you dislike dogs, in which case this probably isn’t for you, as dogs are allowed in the lounge and in a separate dining area (not in the main restaurant).

A well positioned hotel being close to the A30, with lovely walks right from the door. Food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner.
I'm not a dog lover so was a little put off by being surrounded by dogs in the lounge. However to be fair it is advertised as a dog friendly hotel and no dogs were to be seen in the main restaurant, they seemed to be kept to a separate dining area.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable enough if a bit small. The en-suite bathroom was very well appointed, modern and clean. The breakfast truly was "superb". The location is outstanding.
The room had low ceilings in places but that was to be expected as it was right at the top of the building. Another time I'd book a larger room.

Breakfast excellent and the evening food very good but visitors must realise it is fine dinning and the plate size is very small. Lots of different sized lounges which are comfortable with open fires.
With a bad leg we should have asked for a low level bedroom. Unfortunately we were allocated a top of the house room - no lifts. Radiator in our room unsatisfactory.

Comfortable and clean
I’m not a doggy person so not a fan of them when staying in hotels but it was organised extremely well so that they and owners had separate dining facilities and their own dog cleaning room. Our bedroom was a non dog room so for those with allergies that is important.

The location is perfect with easy access to varied walks in beautiful and frequently stunning surroundings. Breakfast was varied and hearty and worthy of a visit just for the breakfasts. Dinners were superb with an excellent choice of menu. All prepared by a talented and imaginative chef who has made The Mill End worthy of repeat custom. We will certainly come back.
A little more attention to detail with regard to cleanliness of the communal areas. The gardens were unloved which is a pity because the landscaping is excellent. Just needs a little more attention to change this.

Afternoon tea and evening dinner was delicious. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Bed was very comfortable and hotel was clean.
Our breakfast did take a while to arrive on the morning due to hotel being busy which couldn't be helped, however may be we could have been pre warned when ordering.
