The hotel staff were super friendly and very helpful. The location was good for us and we ate in the hotel and had breakfast too. The Goan fish curry was spectacular, although I could have eaten much more... Continental breakfast was good value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
We stayed in the Victorian suite opposite which was very spacious and had everything we needed, the bed was extremely comfortable, one of the best I've slept in on this trip and the shower was very good. I have to confess though, I found the Victorian decoration OTT and not too my personal taste, however I am absolutely certain that if my mother was still alive, she would have probably absolutely adored it.

Beautiful suite (we stayed in the appartment across the street in the old bank), with 2 bathrooms and bedrooms. The place and town has a lot of history which is represented in the style of the restaurant and room design. The suites are beautifully renovated and very convenient. Beds and showers are comfortable. The staff in the hotel and restaurant is very kind and welcoming, food was really REALLY good! I recommend to make reservations as there is basically only 1 restaurant in town. The town itself has got a rich history.

Really beautifully renovated old hotel/ Theatre. Tastefully restored retaining an abundance of character and providing guests with local community history. Downstairs is the pub/ restaurant which is clearly popular with the locals too and served good sized meals. also a special mention to the bed, having been on a road trip around the South Island with my partner who has chronic back pain. it was great to finally sleep on a bed that didn’t aggravate it, had lovely firm mattress but with a very comfy topper! we would definitely stay again on our next visit to the west coast and have already recommended to family!

Great old world feel to the hotel. Staff were very freindly, approachable and added to the experiance. The history of the town is fantastic and is known by staff.
Dinner meal was average, service was very good though. Had a Pizza that had little flavor unfortunatly and felt was over priced. Room and bathroom was nice with great charactor. We passed on breakfast option as again felt a little over priced for continental option only, but it is what it is.

It's a quaint old hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bathroom is very modern. The pub and restaurant area provide a good menu and friendly service.
The in-room TV and tea and coffee facilities were inside a wardrobe in a rather home-built arrangement of shelves and electrical systems. I found it a bit unprofessional, and maybe a better fit out is due. The local area is interesting but lacks enough to keep us more than one night.

Great location. Gateway to the beautiful west coast nature Bed was comfortable Obvious a lot of effort has been put into restoration, right down to heritage wallpaper, art and decor.
Always felt like an inconvenience when we were in and out of the accommodation. The entrance/exit door continued to change and as much as we were trying to do the right thing by reading the changing signs a staff member always seemed annoyed with what we were doing. The cleaners left all of our windows wide open after maintaining our room. I understand they're wanting to air out the room (which i'm all about!) but when we returned late after dinner we came back to a freezing cold room which we weren't able to warm up to sleep. The duvet and bedding was marked with a few miscellaneous stains. Looked like pen/highlighter marks and dirt. Would have liked a fridge in our rooms. A few odd things but overall it was still a nice stay

We had a wonderful stay in one of your cottages. It was very comfortable and well appointed. It was a plus being able to store our electric mountain bikes in your lockable shed with electric charging facilities. The evening meals we had for our big group of 25 bikers at the Theatre Royal Hotel restaurant were delicious, and we were amazed at how quickly everyone was served. Definitely compliments to the chef and all your staff. We will be back. Thanks, Lis & Grant

-The setting : a former 19th century theatre converted into a hotel and pub with all modern conveniences. -The warm welcome extended to guests. -Comfortable bedroom furnished in period style. Modern, well appointed en-suite bathroom. -Reasonably priced meals avalaible in the ground floor bar/restaurant. -Ample car parking. -Situated in historic village on the main road to Arthur's Pass.
-The option of a fridge in the room would have been useful, but communal fridge provided for guests in the nearby sitting-room. -Some road noise particularly early in the morning.

Fantastic renovated historical hotel in a historic gold mining town. We had a fabulous stay & I cannot fault the facilities in the heritage rooms, food or hospitality. There was somewhere secure to store our bikes and to charge my electric bike.
Speeding traffic noise at night, especially heavy vehicles - it was hot and we did have the windows open so I some noise was to be expected & I do acknowledge this is beyond the control of the hotel. Maybe a prod to the local cop to try to control the speed of the tankers and other heavy traffic early morning would help. If I stayed again I would try to get the cabins at the back of the hotel or a rear room in the hotel.

Clean. comfortable. We had what we needed for one night's stay. We would definitely stay again if we come back to NZ. The food at the hotel was really nice and can't fault the service we received.
If we had have needed to stay a few nights, it would have been good to have laundry facilities at the Burridge cottage property, rather than off-site however it wasn't a problem for this stay.
