On arriival, I was greeted by a person with a welcoming smile. After I'd checked in, I was helped with my luggage to my room. I had a free upgrade to a large room at the top of the house. The room was very characterful, with a big window facing a lovely garden. The window was opened, for me, and remained that way for the rest of my stay. There was a hospitality-tray, with nice tea-bags and a pretty tea-pot. The ensuite bathroom contained a nice, big, enamelled cast-iron bath-tub as well as a toilet and hand-sink. There was plenty of hot water. The hotel-building was old and extremely characterful, with many of the very charming features still in place, The breakfast-room was beautiful and the cooked, vegetarian breakfast was generous and good !

At breakfast, the fruit-juices could have been better presented.

I travel with my dog and always appreciate a location that not only caters for us but also appreciates us. We were given a key to a room but swapped last minute. This was an upgrade to the garden room, myself and my boy Magnus were so grateful. We made the most of the garden and the varanda. The bed I found comfortable, the bathroom was huge with a powerful shower and the room had a mini fridge I found useful. Staff were super friendly, they came round to knock to see if I needed anymore tea or coffee. I added an extra night, no bother at all. Some may say the decor is outdated, I say it's a piece of tourism history. I was more than happy, it's a beautiful building. The price was budget, the room size was not. Plenty of free parking too. I did get the last space on one of my nights stay, so maybe slightly challenging at busier times. Without a doubt we will be back. Keep your expectations real and you should find your content enough. We certainly were.

I thought some of the reviews were particularly harsh but all are entitled to their opinion. Just no need to be rude about it.

The woman working (I think maybe the owner?) was incredibly friendly and accommodating! The room was nice, especially for the price and the breakfast was really good value for money. There’s a selection of yogurts, fruit, toast and cereals plus the option of cooked items made to order along with juices and tea/coffee, for only £5!

The bathroom was a little dated, however it was a good size and functional with a good shower and very hot water so it didn’t really matter.

As I rang the door bell the owner opened the door with a welcome back smile. The smell of French cuisine coming from the kitchen was like a support blanket. I haven't been there for a few months, after a chat I went to my room. Room 2 is a single and once I unpacked and made a coffee and just relaxed listening to radio 2. A few hours later I had a shower and went out for dinner. Got back early and slept until 7.30. The breakfast was more than I have at home. I only stayed 2 nights at the BALMORAL LODGE HOTEL but I always feel sad when I leave. See you all soon.

Not use to single bed and it did get a little cold during the night. As I spoke to the reception staff the lady told me that I could turn on heater .I laughed and said that I still haven't put my heating on since March. Normally I have a room with a good view but the window was small and it faced the nursing home opposite .

Arrived earlier that usual . The welcome was friendly , t have been, coming to the BALMORAL LODGE HOTEL SOUTHPORT for many years . I was very impressed the with my breakfast the bacon was as thick as a pork chop . I will be heading back home tomorrow . I come to Southport to visit a friend who has a few health issues . So coming back to the hotel and relaxing in my room with the radio in the background. Last night I slept 9 hours and ordered a Chinese take away . I would like to give a THUMBS UP.

My single bed was a little cramped. . I never like leaving the BALMORAL LODGE HOTEL.

As always the staff / owners are lovely , helpful and make you feel welcome . The beds are so comfy , I don't think I've ever had a bad night's sleep at this hotel

I took a shower in the afternoon, and unfortunately couldn't get a really hot shower , which is what I'd have liked , but in the morning I was able to have one with decent temperature . Other than that , no issues or problems

I travel to Southport to check up with my friends who live on their own . I always enjoy the welcome that I receive .Staff are very helpful and polite . The breakfast room has a beautiful garden and breakfast just make my day . The bus stop is just across the road which takes you into Lord Street . Only £2 . There is a good size parking area. Hope to see you all soon.

I would just like to say that I found the single bed a wee bit small . I have spoken to management about having to climb stairs , but I still look at my stay as a workout .

Location is very good with free parking though that is a little tight when full. Room was spacious and comfortable with a patio door opening into the garden. This was ideal for our two dogs to have direct access into a safe enclosed garden. Friendly welcoming staff Good shower pressure

Pillows could do with updating

We were a party of 9 cyclists. We were received most warmly by our French hosts who encouraged us to put our bikes in the bar, which is (sadly) closed in the evening. We had 6 rooms, all good. The garden rooms were particularly useful, for example, for the couple with a dog. Our double room also had built in childrens bunks. Other rooms also had extra beds for kids. Worth bearing in mind if planning a holiday with several families. Breakfast was very good with plenty of individual options.

This is a hotel of a certain age. There were some issues with wifi and TV remotes.

The staff are friendly, the room was clean, decent breakfast for £5 extra charge, good location.

Was allocated room 4 which is a little small, could do with a proper mattress and not a 3-4 inch foam topper. The shower is outdated and could do with replacing, the tiles in shower cubical didn't shine, looked they were covered in tiling grout. The double glazed window did nothing for sound proofing. Last point, they charged more for this room than my last visit two weeks earlier!
