It was good value for money

I was asked at the property to pay a £25 fee for my dog. I refused. This as far as I was concerned was not advertised or at least visible prior to booking. I even contacted the hotel to enquire about my dog and no one mentioned the charge, they just said it was dog friendly. Either make it more visible or don’t charge it. £25 is an unfair charge in my eyes as it is in excess of 25% of the total cost of the hotel. Had it been advertised I would not have booked. I don’t like hidden costs. This is not the first time I have had this problem with booking.com

Absolutely loved this overnight stay. Exceeded my expectation! Staff were great, room was lovely and despite having a downside view you had no disturbances from the bar terrace below. Beds were really comfy and breakfast was amazing. Also love the idea of ordering your breakfast the night before so they can prepare accordingly and avoid food wastage. I also asked for something extra in the morning and this was no problem. We also asked around for restaurant recommendations and a few suggested the hotel restaurant. The food was fab and a mixed vibe of guests with tables nicely spread out for privacy.

Nothing.

Lovely big room, comfy bed, windows that opened, what a bonus! Shower a bit dated

The state of the carpet on the out stairs and landing is disgusting, and probably a trip hazard. It’s an extremely old and lovely building which also doesn’t help. I appreciate that it leads from the outdoors, but the sagging, very dirty and aging carpet lets down an otherwise very pleasant experience.I’m sure it could be smartened up with something cleaner, safer and more weatherproof at a relatively minimal price if costs are an issue.

Very good location and a spacious car park nearby which is free most days. This is a quirky hotel with lots of character. We stayed in room 8 which is spacious and has a bath aswell as a shower. Good value for money weekday rate including a nice breakfast, which you pre-order the day before. Staff were very friendly, and we ate in the restaurant behind reception, with nicely spaced tables.

Nothing we didn't like . We did mention to the staff that the full sized kettle is hard to fill using the bathroom sink . However , that is not a criticism, merely a thing that can easily be swapped and staff did offer a jug of water.

Very old pub hotel in which we had a wonderful quirky room up in the eaves. Location was perfect for our needs and was very quiet overnight. Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Hot weather meant our attic room was very warm. However, the Kings Arms had provided a choice of 3 different coolers so our stay was very comfortable.

We were initially concerned about leaving our car in a public car park. However, this proved not to be an issue as we could see our vehicle from our room.

Wonderful pub with rooms. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Kieran who checked us in and was very helpful. We had a large room with a jacuzzi bath and it felt like real luxury. Large bed with soft cotton sheets. The room and pub is very old and it was fantastic to stay somewhere with such history. It has a lovely outside seating area which feels like part of the town. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful with delicious coffee. Thoroughly recommend

I stayed here with my bridal party the night before my wedding and I can’t say enough how generous and accommodating the staff were, which made the morning of the wedding so enjoyable - they opened the premises early to allow our hair and makeup team to arrive and allowed us to use one of their function rooms in the morning to get our hair and makeup done together and to eat breakfast! We also ate here the night before and the food was lovely! Would definitely stay here again and recommend anyone looking for accommodation in the heart of Abergavenny to stay here!

The staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating, very patient and available for anything you need. The breakfast in the morning was amazing, with lots of options and comes very quickly once sat down. Their system to take your order the night before and what time you want the breakfast works very well. I did not have dinner there but if the breakfast is anything to go by I'm sure it is amazing. The bar area is very nice, giving a very cosy and comfortable feel. Locals also like to go to the bar and they have some live music on certain nights. Overall we had a lovely time!

I can't speak highly enough of the staff - doing this trip solo I felt really well looked after, respected, amd very safe. I loved the quirkiness and character of the hotel, it felt like a really unique place to stay, and the room and bathroom were exceptional. Great food too - after a day up in the mountains it was great to be able to come back to the hotel and have everything you needed right there.

Not an issue for me personally but there is a lively bar downstairs and you will hear chatter until about midnight so very early/light sleepers might want to bear that in mind.

The warm welcome! The staff were very friendly, helpful and did everything to make the stay a pleasure. Their help with transport and other advice such as restaurants and shops was most welcome. A personal touch. The bar and evening live music set we sat in on had a lovely atmosphere. It is authentic. The hotel itself is a gem. The modernisation is sympathetic to the historic oak timber structure. Full of character. The food and dining facilities are of a high standard. We enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch. The fish course was delicious, outstanding. Table booking is recommended, it is very popular locally. Breakfast is not to be missed. One of the best I have had in recent times. The location is spot on. The hotel is dog friendly. Popular with locals as a place to meet. The Kings Arms offers extremely good value for money. Much recommended. Just to mention, if taxis is required, be sure to book in advance by phone, particularly on Sundays. The hotel staff were excellent in giving this top tip and supplying details in advance for us.

Everything was ideal. Nothing needs attention.
