Big hotel with spacious rooms. Excellent location, very close to Marutamachi Station, you can get from there to Kyoto station very quick, which pretty much takes you anywhere. The hotel serves japanese and american breakfast for an additional cost (discounts for guests tho!), which are great value.

Stay was great,only issue was that the hotel doesn't have a laundry room,but theres a coin laundry very close to make up for it.

Only had breakfast once - and although maybe a buffet would have been appreciated, the one that was served was very good. We enjoyed the garden view. My room was small but adequate - whereas my friend had a Deluxe Single which was much more spacious. The location was excellent as we were attending the Jidai Matsuri, and starting from the Imperial Palace, the action was right on our doorstep. We were not able to get tickets in advance but someone passed on two tickets for the benches, so we were in luck!

We were satisfied with everything. The staff didn't speak much English, but they used the pocket Translator very effectively, and all of them were very efficient and helpful. However, one of the waiters in the restaurant spoke excellent English, and was a great help.

The location was great and the staff very welcoming and helpful. They used a pocket Translator to solve any language problems! Rooms were quiet, bright, and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the breakfast with the view of the garden. Booking.com made the whole booking system - and the various room and date changes I made - simple and efficient.

Found my 'double/single' room a little small. My friend's room of Deluxe Single was much better. I was surprised that the hotel was only rated 3 Star - but maybe the higher price was in line for a tourist destination like Kyoto.

Outstanding staff, especially at the Front Desk who go out of their way to assist in whatever question or need you may have. Location on the west side of the Imperial Palace Gardens is ideal. Excellent value Japanese breakfast with an option for western style. Hotel restaurant overlooks a beautiful Japanese garden. Second floor meeting rooms are welcoming with an expansive and comfortable lobby area with large windows with beautiful views of the Imperial Gardens.

Would have appreciated the lighter duvet and softer pillows.

The staff was friendly, efficient, welcoming--just about perfect. I do not believe there is a better location in Kyoto. The neighborhood is quiet. There is a beautiful garden across the street. The metro is a short walk from the hotel. Many attractions are easy to get to from the hotel. The rooms are small but beautifully designed. I especially liked the bathroom which is small but has everything you could want.

The room could have been bigger

Friendly and welcoming staff. Clean, spacious room with beautiful views of Imperial Palace Park just across the road (also free entry and guided tours of gardens, including English-speaking).

Mixed feelings about location. Bit of a bumpy 15 min trek with luggage from/back to nearest subway at Maratumachi, lots of side roads, cyclists and pedestrian crossings to navigate (plus lots of steep steps at station exit, no obvious escalator). Obviously much quicker and easier on other days without luggage, and taxi a bit pricey when on a budget.

My room had a view overlooking the Imperial Gardens. The location suited me as it was quiet and I enjoyed walking through the Imperial Gardens to get to other places of interest and enjoyed exploring the local area.

The air-conditioning could not be controlled separately in the room. Stuffy in winter and could be a problem in summer. The small window opening was not adequate to ventilate the room.

Great breakfast! There was a choice between Japanese and Western style sets, I chose the Japanese style and it was amazing. Also many different drink options available, with ice coffee being a huge bonus. Plus, the dining area has a beautiful view of a lush garden with a koi pond. The room was fantastic, very clean and comfortable, with powerful AC which was wonderful in the humidity of Kyoto. A comfy yukata was provided, along with multiple amenities such as a toothbrush, razor etc. The staff were super friendly! I only stayed one night so I didn't have a lot of interaction with them, but nonetheless everyone was so nice. The location was perfect for my needs. The hotel is easily accessible via the subway and city buses, although I took a taxi from Kyoto Station, which took about 10 minutes. All in all a great experience! For such an affordable price Kyoto Garden Palace really exceeded my expectations.

Absolutely no complaints!

This is third time I have stayed over 15 years. Has been an upgrade of facilities since trip 6 years ago.

My only issue is they allow smokers so sometimes the only room you can get is one. Atmosphere a bit of as smell clings but love the place enough to put up with it.

The room was a good size for a Japanese double room, and the staff were friendly and helpful (they spoke good English)

There’s no on-site laundry service, and the nearest coin laundry is quite far away. It’s also not really near any major train stations (my bad for not checking more closely)
