December 2024

The Parador's location, within the Alhambra complex allowed us to make the most of our short break as we could easily access the various parts of the Alhambra as soon as they opened. We bought our Alhambra visitor tickets from the official site (search for "Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife"), well in advance so that we could plan our day around our timed slot in the Nasrid Palace complex. It was also very atmospheric at night; no other tourists or distractions, just us, the odd security guard and the various buildings & palaces. It was also relatively easy to walk to other interesting areas; The Albaicin (gypsy quarter), Sacromonte (Cave dwellings & museum), both needing good legs due to the hills involved, and the old city and its cathedral & interesting shops, bars & restaurants (an easy walk down, a steep uphill slog to get back). We took some evening meals in the Parador's main restaurant and in the bar area. Both were perfectly good and reasonably good value, considering the location. All the staff from front of house to the restaurant to the cleaners were friendly and professional. We travelled in December and the amount of daylight, the day/night temperatures and the relative lack of tourists was a real bonus. I have also been to Granada/Alhambra in the summer and I wouldn't do that again!

We had a standard room, ground floor, which was a bit on the small side and lacking in storage, though it was fine for our short break. The Parador's bar does not have much ambience. On-site parking is €31 per day and once the car is parked, it's there for the duration of your stay.

Liked the location although I note that there was at least 1 other hotel within the vicinity of the Alhambra, so the Parador isn't the only one BUT the views from the Parador (from the bedrooms & from the outdoor terrace) are fantastic. Good size bedrooms, satisfactory amenities, nice bathroom with bidet directly opposite the toilet (I usually note them aligned side by side in other places), lovely building & outside garden, a tranquil place to enjoy the sights. A one night splurge to be close to the Alhambra was good.

1) Minor, but I couldn't pay for my room with cash because we booked 2 rooms (my friend's room & mine) so there was just 1 bill, and even when our separate charges were below 1,000 EUR but because the total bill was over 1,000 EUR, I had to use my credit card to pay. 2) Breakfast was very "so so". The hot "to order" breakfast choices weren't good, they certainly were NOT made to order, more like they were already made & in the kitchen waiting to be served - my Spanish omelette was hard & cold, I expected more from the Parador.

Excellent location and facilities

We were eating in their outdoor restaurant one night, arrived 30mins early to have a pre-dinner drink to be told by a waiter that all of their tables for drinks were occupied (whether residents or not I did not know) while the tables for dinner were being prepared, we persevered and were told that we could have our pre-dinner drink in the breakfast area - twenty empty tables in a virtually unlit room. At these prices I expect well trained/managed staff who are able to provide a solution. As it was I ordered our drinks and walked down to the gardens, why could the waiter not have come up with that solution ??

The hotel was beautiful and we enjoyed it. The room was quiet and clean. Beds were comfortable. The location was terrific. The staff were helpful (except for check in, see below).

The confusion at reception about our triple room....blaming booking.com for your inconsistencies in room rates. It would have been a lot more gracious to just let it go, rather than arguing with us at check in. The breakfast area could have been a bit more elegant. The staff could have moved our car away from the bird droppings, since they had the ability since they took our key.

The location is phenomenal for the Alhambra, and the property is nice. The woman who checked us in was exceptional in helping us get the best room, giving us a map, and giving us tips on how to get around the area to find things we needed and be on time. The man who checked us out was helpful as well. When we asked reception staff the day before checkout to book a taxi for our departure date, he told us we’d have to pay over double for a town car since we spoke English. This comment was so bizarre, we had already arrived by taxi and taken several taxis to or from hotel each day of our stay. We made our own taxi arrangements for our departure.

Breakfast is an added charge and optional, the reservation information indicated breakfast was included. It would have been nice to know we could save on expenses by skipping breakfast which was very pricy (double the cost of cafes nearby).

We didn’t have breakfast there as we had an early start on the first morning and first sitting offered was 8am, a little late for our needs. The venue location itself was amazing, such a privilege to stay in the grounds, worth every Euro. The terrace where we had drinks had an outstanding view across the valley and hillsides beyond. We absolutely loved our stay and the room and other spaces were very tastefully decorated. Just beautiful.

The sink in our bathroom, it was like a horse watering trough it was so big, you couldn’t reach over easily to rinse your mouth out. We know they are fashionable but wasn’t keen!

You can't beat the location if you want to spend a bunch of time in the Alhambra. We loved the ability to explore then return to our room to rest up between visiting different parts of the site.

It's far away from everything else, and we found that while the cabs are cheap and typically readily available at times it can be quite the wait and you're left hiking back up the large hill to get to your room. It wasn't a deal breaker for us, but something to keep in mind. We also didn't feel that the quality of the room really lived up to the luxury expectations.

Location was unparalleled, directly adjacent to the Alhambra. Rooms were very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Food quality and selection at breakfast were great. We enjoyed a very pleasant lunch outside on the terrace.

It was very challenging to find by car. The breakfast buffet was awkwardly placed in a tight corner, making accessing the food difficult. Service at dinner in the main dining room was very awkward. When we first arrived, staff took our orders promptly. However, no staff checked to see if food was OK, or if we wished to order more drinks or dessert. The process at the end of the meal for settling the bill was not communicated and turned into a long bungled process of correcting the bill.

The hotel is in the grounds of the Alhambra - a spectacular location. When we arrived I handed over the keys and they parked the car and carried my luggage in. We arrived a little late (delayed plane and a 2 hour drive from Malaga) but they still managed to find us a table in the restaurant - where the food was excellent. The view from the room was brilliant, looking across to the Generalife in the Alhambra. The staff were very welcoming.

We would have liked to stay an extra night but when we tried to book (early February) the room for Saturday was 3 times the price we paid for the each of the other days.

The location of the Parador is perfect being right in The Alhambra site. This makes it easy to get in anywhere early to explore before the crowds arrive. Equally you can explore when the crowds have departed. Our room was fabulous with a staircase to a tower room/lounge. This had windows to all four sides and offered superb views. We opted for breakfast and it was really good. There is a large array of choices to help yourself to and the staff will prepare any hot dishes you may require. The coffee was superb. Evening meals were very good and our last evening meal was exceptional. There is also a good value cafe with terrace overlooking the gardens with a view towards The Generalife section. All, and I mean ALL the staff were friendly and helpful to every request.

Nothing at all. It was all a wonderful experience.
