The breakfast options were excellent. The guest houses were very modern and well appointed. The shower was amazing after a chilly windy day.

We arrived expecting a pull out couch to accommodate 3 of us. There was confusion by staff as to why there were 2 chairs instead. We were gracefully offered 2 separate rooms in the main house but preferred the external guest house so we could be all together, we made due. Was an uncomfortable night for our 15 year old.

Nice location for exploring the South of Iceland. Only 30 minutes from Hofn with shops and restaurants and half an hour from Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Nice guesthouse with nice staff, good breakfast and comfortable rooms.

During our two night stay there was a wind storm which resulted in Route 1 being closed which meant we weren’t able to get back to the guesthouse for our second night stay. We were told road closures happen all the time so it would have been nice for the guesthouse to just warn us that there maybe road closures due to the storm coming and we wouldn’t have driven so far from the accommodation. Once we were stuck, we tried multiple times to call the hotel to see if they could help at all, with no answer and no call back. It would also have been nice if they could have checked in on us to make sure we were okay but never heard anything from them. Left us feeling like they didn’t really care.

We had a lovely stay at Skalafell! Owned and managed by a welcoming local family, we stayed in one of the units facing the sheep meadow and loved it. Breakfasts were very nice and we had delicious dinners on two nights. The best part is that the guesthouse is located at the trailhead of a loop trail that takes you up close to one of the glaciers at Vatnajokull National Park, which we hiked one morning for an unforgettable experience!

There was not much to not like. The only thing I can think of is that the unit faced south and got full sun for close to 24 hours (it was mid June) so it got a bit warm. But this is a minor quibble and didn't detract from our wonderful stay.

The guesthouse is a family run enterprise. Owners are super helpful and kind and take pride in their property and what it offers. Meals, particularly the dinner, were amazing (breakfast is also amazing). It is all homemade at the property by one of the co-owners and served by their son. The cabin we stayed at was wonderful with an unobstructed beautiful view of the Icelandic scenery. The river roaring nearby provided beautiful background noise and a dynamic scenery. The property has trails that lead to a national park. Owners were caring and provide an excellent value. The location of the property is also exceptional. By far the most memorable lodging we stayed at in Iceland.

Premise: we had to book 2 rooms because the family rooms (I suppose they have some) were all booked. The place was nice and the services were really good. The breakfast was good also, with a good selection of things.

I didn't like so much the shower. A door instead of a plastic sheet would make a much better impression and less mess with the water.

perfect location bc was going to Heinabergslón kayak the next morning, and skalafell had better reviews than smyrlabjorg. own half-cabin, very quiet, close to the main lodge where free breakfast is served. easy parking, easy to find, cute little farm dog greets you.

i just remember it being very warm, open some windows but there might be more bugs in the warmer months.

Charming, comfortable and well appointed room in a two room cottage with great views. Plenty of parking and breakfast was fine. We drove down to the end of the farm avenue close to main road and had spectacular views of northern lights. Were greeted by a fun and perky little dog in the morning. Would recommend this place.

The guesthouse has everything you need for a pleasant stay. In particular, we enjoyed the breakfast and the friendly and helpful hosts. The guesthouse is located at the starting point of a hike that we enjoyed thoroughly.

The room was quite small and there was practically no view from it, as it faced the facade of a mountain, however, we did see a sheep hopping around. The lighting in the room could also be improved.

Including breakfast. good breakfast. room was inside the main building, so easy to go to get breakfast in your PJs. staff helped us with a restaurant nearby since there was no restaurant or kitchen at the guesthouse. only affordable accommodation in the area of Vatnajokul

No dinner possibilities in the neighborhood. No supermarket, no kitchen. gladly the staff sent us to a restaurant from a hotel 5 minutes away.

The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was included. The location was beautiful, right by the mountains and we looked out on fields with sheep and lambs. So wonderful. There was no kettle in the room but we asked for some hot water and were given as much as we needed. We didn't make use of it but there are plenty of hiking opportunities around the guesthouse and it's just a short drive to the Glacier Lagoon.

Unfortunately only one bathroom to share for multiple rooms.
