Great value for the money paid! The location was great as I had a hospital appointment very early in the morning it’s only about 12 minutes walk away since I can’t drive this worked out great, staff incredibly welcoming and helpful. The house is quite near a main road but you couldn’t hear the traffic at all so I slept really well. I didn’t have the breakfast as I had to leave early but the whole place looked very clean and just nice to be there , I would definitely stay there again and recommend as a place to stay for my family and friends wanting to travel further north .
Didn’t really find anything wrong with the place but I know that the rooms had quite thin walls of which you could hear occasionally walking up and down in the corridor but it didn’t affect me as I was the only one staying there at the time so that’s all .

The property is located within easy walking distance of the Dunfermline Queen Margaret Railway station and several bus stops that can get you into town and back in under ten minutes. There is also a walking path that runs parallel to the main road and can bring you into town in about 30 minutes on foot. The proprietor was very kind and explained everything clearly. The setting was very cozy, with homely decor, comfortable furniture and wood accents. The dining area was beautiful with wood beams and natural light. The structure is right off a busy street but the sturdy walls and double glazed windows do a remarkable job of blocking the noise even at street level. The room was prepared in advance with both fresh air and a comfortable temperature. The in-room mini-fridge and ensuite (private bathroom) were extremely helpful. Room also included a place to sit, built-in wardrobe, television, desk space, alarm clock and bed-side table lamp. Black out curtains did a good job of blocking the light from the street, and the bed was very comfortable. The place felt very clean, safe and secure. Both pillows provided were a bit firm for me, and since I like some weight to the bedding the single duvet was a bit light, but I slept well nonetheless and I expect that additional blankets would have been provided had I requested them. The hot and cold bathroom taps are separate and a bit short, but the wash basin was nice and large. A shelf to set things would have been convenient. The water pressure of the shower was neither high nor low and the temperature was sufficiently hot, although it seemed to ignore my adjustments to increase it. I did hear a bit of activity outside the room in the morning, but it was muffled.
The Twin room that I reserved was facing the street which can be a concern if you are noise-sensitive, as I am, however this did not prove to be an issue. It is something to be aware of for those reserving in warmer months who may want to keep the window open.

The hosts are very nice and work hard to make your stay comfortable. The room was well equipped and comfortable. Parking is available on site.
Some road noise was evident and an occasional train was heard but neither were too intrusive. Guests in the next room were heard as perhaps between room insulation is a little basic.

Place was quiet, clean and comfortable. Suitable for my needs. There's a microwave in the kitchen (didn't use this but it was there) There is a bus stop just across the road. Adjustment was made for my time of arrival which was great! If you're looking for just the basics at a good price, I'll recommend this place
Nothing to not like

The whole experience at Clarke Cottage was first rate, excellent, friendly and welcoming hosts, clean, really comfy bed and a great nights sleep. Breakfast was superb, will definitely stay again.
If I am being honest there was nothing that I could say needs improving.

Location very good for rail and bus links and no noise heard from outside despite being close to a busy road and rail line. Good sized room. Friendly and welcoming hosts, nothing too much trouble.
Debris and hair in storage drawers a big turn off.... see image, some areas not dusted in a while... see image of bedside lamp, poor lighting, only 4 coat hangers in large double wardrobe, very noisy vibrating noise from electric shower, additional noise above /by room that sounded like a water tank filling up and finally lack of adjoining room noise insulation, I could hear everything being done in bathroom next door which meant they probably heard me too!! A bit tired looking, could do with bringing up to date.

Dunfermline has much to see as a destination in itself. With easy access via train to Edinburgh close by Clarke Guesthouse is ideal. The hosts, Suzanne and Colin live up to their reputation as welcoming and hospitable.

My visit was the definition of a flying visit, last in, first out, but think I landed on a little gem despite how short notice my booking was (I needed somewhere to stop for a job I had less than a days notice). And they accommodated how awkward the conditions of my booking were, including arriving late. Great communication on that. The place: Easy to find, well situated for connecting roads. The beds were very comfy, so were the blankets and pillows, The room was a comfy temperature on arriving. Aside from some road noise, couldn't tell anyone else was in the building! Had more facilities and little luxuries in the room than I expected for the price point. The shower was modern which might not mean much to some, but its surprising how many have old electric units that cant hold a set temperature. Managed to have a comfy shower. The first time I met the owners was when I was looking to hand my room key in, and such personable people ended up chatting for 10 minutes before I left. Next time I might not be in such a rush and can book a breakfast, which looks rather appetising.
Only points of note? There was a bit of road noise, but nothing that would wake you up. Noted the taps took a while for water to come through? Anything else was most likely down to me being exhausted having been up near 20 hours at that point. Reading the guest information was frankly impossible at that point. And being such a stay didn't test much else. So would be unfair to comment on anything.

We booked very last minute as our plans had changed and we were attending a wedding in Dunfermline, we travelled a long way from Preston, Lancashire. On arrival the hosts were very welcoming making sure we knew everything we needed to know! The room was nice and clean and had a very cosy feel just like we were home! In the morning the breakfast was really nice lots of options to choose from such as cereal, cooked breakfast, Yoghurt, fruit etc... and for £8 each! The hosts explained we could park our car at the back as our room was closer which made things easier. Really pleased with our night away and if we are ever travelling to Scotland again we will be sure to stay here! Thank you so much to the hosts keep doing what you're doing :)
