Nice hostel a little set back from the road. It was really quiet during the night and I didn't even need earplugs :D Heater in the dorm and I had a dorm to myself because it was low season. Good place to stay 1 or 2 nights in, I actually came back again a week later on the way through.

The signs around the common area reminding you of doing you dishes etc. had a certain tone to them which made one feel unwelcome. There are many people staying there more permanently and it felt a bit weird to be one of the few short term guests. Nonetheless, everyone was friendly. Room could be a little cleaner (dust) and the lower bunk could have more head space (you cannot sit on the lower bunk). But no mayor issues.

Way better than the reviews… sure there where some spiderwebs (but no bugs!) in the capsule but what do you expect for this low price? Cheapest accommodation i found in whole Tasmania and considering that it was clean enough! Very clean actually, with fresh linen provided and regularly cleaned bathrooms and kitchen. Big very well equipped kitchen. Nice people hanging out there and they have a cool outside area with hammock! Great base point for Freycinet National Park! Good wifi. Free Parking!

Was way better that i expected after reading the reviews!

The hostel is really good, has a beautiful outside area, where you can chill :) i stayed there 3 years ago and was curious if its still such a great little hostel as it used to be, and it is :) Location is great - next door is a bottle shop, bakery and restaurant/pub, short walk to the beautiful beach, and not that far from the town center with shops etc. Bus stop just in front of the hostel. good value for money.

Just maybe i would recommend to do 2 rounds of cleaning of the bathrooms a day and then it would be perfect :)

Chris, the owner was friendly and tried his best to make our stay comfortable. The people staying there were friendly and like family....we shared the kitchen and exchanged recipes. The kitchen was equipped with a big fridge to store our food. The bathroom is clean in the morning after Chris and his assistant cleaned up the place however the bathroom gets a bit messy after everyone makes use of it. It is difficult for Chris and assistant to ensure the cleanliness of the place especially the bathroom and the kitchen as it is the responsibility of everyone staying there. It is a wonderful place for the price we paid. Will go back again if I visit Tasmania. Thank you Chris and Edna

I travelled with 9 of my other friends and we only stayed overnight in Swansea before continuing down the east of Tasmania. This hostel had by far the best equipped (and cleanest) kitchen of all the hostels we stayed at, a great range of cooking equipment (large pots, rice cookers, lots of knives) that allowed us to prepare big enough meals for 10 people. The owner/host was very accommodating and was able to put all 10 of us in the pod rooms when we arrived (we were originally going to be split 4 people and 6 people), and it was very nice to have a whole room to ourselves. The pod beds were very comfortable and the walls did a great job at muting the noise of everyone while sleeping (I am a light sleeper).

Only shared 2 showers and 2 toilets per gender so we did have to wait a bit for our big group to get all cleaned up, and the bathroom got very steamy after the hot showers (and the floors a bit slippery) even though the windows were open.

Hi! I stayed here in January when I was roadtripping Tassie for a bit. I love a place with character, and Swansea Backpackers is one such place. You can just feel that when the owner gives off the right vibe, it keeps the guests happy too. Chris, the owner, looks after the place so well and respects his guests - and you can tell that the guests are all respectful in return. The spacious communal room is furnished so neatly, it just feels like home. I really enjoyed the room we stayed at and everyone was friendly and respectful. Also made a good friend in the end. Chris, all the best - hope we meet again sometime

The showers and kitchen are a bit messy. I feel like the kitchen was also lacking some tools.

A warm bed to sleep in and an area to hang my wet clothes. Nice people around.

The kitchen and bathroom were a bit dirty. There's hair that's been stuck to the walls for who knows how long and a leaky toilet with water all over the ground. Kitchen...people tried to keep it clean but it's probably because so many are using it.

Best value for money. A nice hostel with a big kitchen, a nice backyard, clean rooms and an relaxing atmosphere. stuff ist friendly and helpful. Theres a pub, cafe and bottle shop close by. Would definitely stay here again!

Toilets could be a bit more clean. But cleanliness in a hostel mostly depends on the people who are staying :)

The hostel is very well managed, with plenty of staff making sure it was always very clean and tidy. The location is great for seeing the east coast.

We got woken up at 6am both days because people in the room nearby were getting up, with something rattling something in our wall quite loudly.

The pods were nice for privacy. The kitchen was very clean and well stocked. The bathrooms were rarely busy and were fairly clean. The owner was very nice and his staff were kind and helpful.

I ended up with a couple spiders in my pod, which was not ideal. The bathroom floors were often wet, perhaps because there weren't paper towels - just a hand dryer. The room with pods had the window open which was great for air flow, but I could hear folks outside until early hours of the morning some nights.
