Location, cleanliness, friendly staff, comfortable., ample parking. To highlight cleanliness, it was immaculately clean, smelt clean as you entered the room. Bedding and towels were fresh and quality items. The beds were comfortable and offered a full night of sound sleep. We had a lovely stay at the Inn and really cannot identify anything that we would have complained about. Yes it could do with some upgrading, but that did not detract from our stay.

This is very subjective. The rooms need updating. This is a very old country pub/inn and has to be viewed in that light. But some general improvement in the bathroom would not go amiss. The bedroom area was fine, but plumbing and bathroom fixtures and fittings need replacing to add a more robust and quality feel.

Really good sized room, which looked better than it did in the photos. The bed was very comfortable, nice firm mattress, good sized bathroom with a proper bath, nice soft fluffy towels. Good supply of tea and coffee, very clean and tidy room. Only downside is that the curtains were light and therefore let the light in very early...should maybe take eye masks if you want a lie-in. All that aside, we enjoyed our stay, you can take a lovely scenic walk down a quiet country lane (Folly Hill Lane I think it is called), which then takes around 40 minutes to walk to the beautiful village of Thaxted, passing views of rolling hills, wheat fields and grazing horses along the way. We didn't use the bar nor try the breakfast due to our schedule, but I recommend the Farmhouse Inn if you are visiting Thaxted and/or the surrounding area.

Could do with blackout curtains.

Breakfast delivered to my room was adjusted to my preference. Bar service was very good and good choice. Size of meal in restaurant was downsized at my request and priced accordingly . Food was very good.

Made to feel welcome. Clean comfortable and well equipped room. Lovely location. Ideal for a short break or getting to Stansted airport. Outside space and bar a good bonus. Plenty of free parking. All good and would recommend. I will return if I am on this area again.

The place is very quiet and cosy. Very close to Stansted Airport, which is why we booked it for an early flight. You have a garden, a yard and a car park at your disposal.You can serve a nice steak in the evening and have a few drinks. The room was spacious, the bathroom even had a bath tub. Heater was there for us to use. The hosts were very nice people that looked after us both in the evening and also in the morning for breakfast. Don't expect anything extravagant for dinner, it's mostly fried stuff but nicely done.

Really helpful, accommodating staff. Perfect location for an early flight from Stanstead. Easy to park. Room was clean and just what we needed

The countryside

During checkout in the morning, the door to the reception was locked. Took me a while to figure out how to leave the building. Then took the fire exit that took me to the parking space.

The friendliness of the staff and clients (locals I think) and it's beautiful inside and out... and THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!

Nothing really.... as we not from there we would have liked a taxi ordered for us for the morning but we were given a list of taxi numbers x all good 😎

The staff and owner are very friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing and breakfast is definitely a must have. The premises themselves are set in and around a beautiful old fashioned farmhouse pub and restaurant. In stunning Essex countryside. My wife and I will definitely be returning and was sorry to have to leave

Coming home

What a lovely quaint pub and hotel. The room is perfect for the overnight stay that we needed. We had a couple of drinks in the pub which is a beautiful 1600s old English pub and to top it off the owners could not have been more accommodating. We will definitely be back with the family for something to eat.
