The location is very good, within walking distance to the shopping center, restaurants, riverwalk and of course the Alamo. This is an historic hotel so don't expect large rooms, but the room that I stayed in was very comfortable, I did not lack anything.
There is quite a bit of construction going on around the Alamo, so that can be a challenge. I used the valet parking; the attendants were friendly. Unfortunately, while parked in their lot, my vehicle was broken into, and they attempted to steal it. The lot does not have cameras but was told that at the 1am lot check my vehicle was indeed locked with zero issues, so it happened sometime after that. I will say that The Menger and the Valet were very accommodating to my husband and me. We were allowed to keep the vehicle there until a tow truck was arranged. This experience will not prevent me from staying at The Menger in the future, this incident was not their fault. I blame the low life criminals that lurk in the darkness.

The friendly bartenders. The prices for drinks.
The people working in the buffet, most of them was sick. Coughing not covering their mouths, 1 of the staff was blowing his nose around the food. Will never eat there again. Over priced buffet. No waffles or pancakes.

Overall this is a great location. The hotel is connected to a plaza, which was under construction during our visit, but looked like it would be awesome. You are about 1-2 blocks away from a river walk exit. Majority of our trip was walking around and we only needed a call to get to the Historical Market Square. Food, shops (including Ripley's) was a couple of steps outside of the hotel.
The only negative thing i can say is that at night, I didn't feel 100% safe walking back to the hotel; however due to the construction they have specific path ways that are fenced in which made you walk by people. I'd imagine i wouldn't feel that way if there wasn't construction. During the day, no such feelings. This is also not the hotels fault.

Breakfast was great. Construction around are makes it a bit difficult to find.
It is expensive. I will save my Pennie’s so I can go again.

The staff are all amazingly nice and incredibly helpful. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. It is HISTORIC so if you want to stay at a completely modernized location, then this isn't for you. The location is perfect and in walking distance to just about everything. The hotel has food options, but there are just so many great places you'll find it hard to decide. We love the pool area and the bar. (also comes with rich history) Make sure you take the time to see all this historic nuggets that the hotel and surrounding area have to provide. The rooms are quaint, clean and comfortable. The showers have great hot water and pressure. And again, the entire staff is amazing.

The hotel is in the center of San Antonio, right next to the Alamo. It is an historical hotel; the oldest West of the Mississippi. It was well maintained with exceptional architecture and cleanliness. The staff is friendly and very helpful, especially Tim Smith at the front desk. There is a lovely buffet available for lunches and brunches; one needs 2-3 stomachs to try everything. The hotel boasts a pool and a garden that you can sit in to read your paper. What will strike you when you first enter is the lovely scent, which was especially designed for it. The hotel is definitely value for money, and better than most 4-star hotels in New York.
Nothing. It was/is perfect.

Gorgeous historic hotel, right in the middle of San Antonio. We could see the Alamo from our window, and the river walk was a very short walk away. The historic features have been beautifully preserved - the Victorian lobby is particularly stunning. The bed was comfortable, the pool was lovely and the young woman serving poolside drinks was so friendly and efficient.
Not the fault of the property, but I didn’t realise when I booked that there is a HUGE building project going on in the area surrounding the Alamo (and therefore right next to the hotel). Just something to be aware of! Bring your earplugs! There are the usual small niggles you’d expect to find in a very old building - no double glazing, noisy air conditioning, water came through rusty when the taps were first turned on. All this aside, it’s a gorgeous place and I would thoroughly recommend it.

The staff was all around wonderful, very courteous, and worked with me on an extra roll away bed and a box fan for my room. The hotel itself is beautiful the lobby and gardens were really nice, even the payphone area was crazy to see (straight out of a 1940's film) lots of great things to see around every corner, but my favorite was the Menger Bar, def check that out!
Like most hotels now the thermostat won't go lower than 71 and I like it cool when I sleep, but they did get me a box fan sent to my room (in the hotels defence I didn't bother complaining about it either to see if they adjusted it)

This hotel is a very good choice for conference to you in San Antonio. It is very close to conference center. Staff here are really warm and friendly. This hotel has a beautiful pool and a small gym. You can get everything you want in this hotel.
The rooms on the opposite of elevators are really noisy. Maybe hotel should do something to prevent the noise from elevator. This hotel is really popular, if you get a room on opposite of elevators, it means they have no other rooms. In general, this hotel is really a nice place. I will choose it again though noise is a small problem.

Location location location it's like 50 ft to the Alamo. Super friendly polite well mannered and professional staff. The history of the place the people the objects. It all tells a story that you w will want to tell your friends about
They are building a new visitor center for the Alamo. The construction was intermittent but lasted on several nights into 3 or 4 in the morning right outside the window of our room. There was a nasty little lip going into the bathroom that you could catch your foot on a stub your toe bad! The ghosts may or may not be real
