The staff were friendly and helpful and the room very clean. Well located, opposite to Hyde Park and situated between Queensway and Lancaster Gate tube stations (both on central line). Within walking distance of Kensington Palace. The Royal Alert Hall is on the far side of the park - but also within walking distance, during daylight hours (I do not know the opening times of the park nor how well lit it is in the evening). One of the Hop on Hop off Bus touring companys also has a stop near by the hotel. The room was very clean and looked to have been reasonably recently refurbished (I would employ whoever hung the striped wallpaper because it was so well done). This is a period hotel and the style of furnishing/bathroom choices reflects both this and the price range. I have stayed at the hotel before and no doubt will again in the future.

There was no welcom pack in the room - which would have been useful. A bedside lamp/wall light - with switched that could be reached from the bed - would also have been nice.

Beware: Breakfast staff Pavel acted highly rude, disrespectful, impolite, and definitely not welcoming, resulting in a total evaluation downgrade by 2 points (29 Dec 2024). Better training in receiving guests next time is highly recommended to avoid downgrade.

The hotel is an imposing Victorian building facing Kensington Gardens near the Lancaster Gate tube station. We were able to check in early, which was very much appreciated (after leaving home in the early hours). The spacious room was on the top, 3rd, floor with a good view of Kensington Gardens (photos uploaded). The room and en-suite were cleaned and tidied each day and the consumables (toiletries, tea, milk, biscuits) replenished. The double bed was comfortable as were the armchairs. The en-suite had a full-size bath, again much appreciated. We were also able to check out a bit later than standard, allowing us to conveniently visit a museum in the morning and to quickly refresh for the journey home. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely consider staying here again on a future visit (in contrast to a similar hotel a couple of hundred metres away that we stayed in the previous time).

We were notified before travelling that there was a problem with the lift which was awaiting a replacement part. This meant that we had to use the stairs each time and there were a lot of them as the imposing building had high ceilings. However, we would not have swapped the view for a lower room and we no doubt benefited from the extra exercise. The hotel offered, and we gladly accepted, the transfers of the suitcase between reception and the room. This imposing hotel has seen much better days and would benefit from refurbishment. However, it is clean (passing my wife's demanding test) and offers a comfortable, spacious stay in a good location at a reasonable price.

I liked the location. The beds were very comfortable.

The television in our room was tiny but noticed some rooms had bigger tvs. It did not have constant tv connection so we watched what ever did not lose signal. The hall way doors and elevator door should have slow closing hinges. The doors kept slamming shut.

Lovely comfy bed with soft linen, not stiff & starchy. Good size room & no traffic noise. Really loved the vintage feel of the place. Excellent breakfast buffet, something for everyone.

Excellent location with good public transport links. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are generously sized and airy. Staff fixed electrical short circuit within minutes of phone call.

Consider installing air conditioners/heat exchangers in the rooms are getting warmer during the London summer evenings and I can see there is no double glazing for the winter months. Update faucets in the sinks to have unified water spout instead of separate outlets. Time to change the carpet in the lounge - current carpet is threadbare.

It's a lovely hotel, comfortable beds, Continental breakfast for additional $10 was nice with fresh made yogurt, meats and pastries. Old building but very clean. Downside is no A/C, just fan and toilet didn't work well in room. Mostly used lobby toilet to be safe! Bar was available and sitting room downstairs for lounging. Hotel held our luggage until room was ready. Staff answered questions re travel. Nice neighborhood and restaurants within walk distance. Underground stations a short walk away. I would stay here again but not in the peak summer time.

Toilet was not working well room 308. No A/C but fan helped and open window made it tolerable.

Good location , next to hyde park. 5 min walk both ways to tube stations. Resturants available short walks. Close to paddington station. Nice and helpful staff , clean. Lovely. Nice building.

Wouldn't say "didn't like" , but I liked less the breakfast experience. It was ok, but there is a place to improve. I payed extra to have breakfast included, but got limited options. Croissant, plain or chocolate filled, jam, cheese and some meat. . ended up having croissant with coffee every morning, my kids had chocolate spread everytime. As a Muslim caring for halal food I could not touch the meat because it was not halal , BUT also could not touch the cheese because it was served on same plate with the meat. I suggest separating meat which is not halal from other food. Would be nice to add more options like boiled eggs, omlet, and some more warm dishes.. thanks.

The hotel enjoys a fantastic location. It’s conveniently situated, making it easy to explore the city and its attractions. The hotel exudes a calm and serene atmosphere. It’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel staff were wonderful. They were attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist.

The bathroom facilities were functional, but they could use a modern upgrade. A minor issue was that there was a draft coming through the bathroom windows. It made the space a bit chilly, especially during the cooler evenings. Fixing this would make a significant difference.

Location, friendly staff ,if you are looking for a central, clean, cheap london hotel this is the place for you. Decor is dated but shabby chic, bathrooms from the 60s, shutters on some windows. But the bed is comfortable, sheets clean, rooms cleaned daily and the location is great ,opposite Hyde Park ,a short walk to Kensington Palace, bus outside hotel directly into central london. Short walk to the tube. Lots of eateries a short walk away in Queensway. I have stayed here twice and if i come to London again i will be staying at the Columbia.
