not a great neighbourhood for restaurants and shopping

I loved everything about the hotel. The location, quality of the facilities and the staff at the pool, reception, engineers and the cleaning staff were all lovely and very cheery.

Hemme in the Frontyard restaurant ruined our experience at the restaurant. We stayed at the hotel for 11 nights and his attitude was miserable when serving a group of 7 women. He refused to serve us. We had just got back from trick or treating and were in high spirits and having a bit of friendly banter with some other British guests. The manager was called to serve us despite it being Happy Hour at 10pm. He totally ruined the night for us and going forward he was miserable the whole time of our stay. Personally I wouldn’t have him working at the restaurant as he should t be in a front of house role with such a bad attitude.

The hotel is awesome - really great communal spaces such as the pool and restaurants. The rooms were a great size and well equipped. It is a great location and is easy to get to. Great free shuttle to Universal

The staff were ok. They did not seem interested or genuine in their interactions with us. Just seemed more important to hang out with each other and be super cool. I mean, they were all pretty cool, but on a number of occasions, we just wanted to order something or get something, and we were the last thing on their minds. This happened in the pool bar and restaurant a couple of times. Maybe it was us - who knows

Absolutely love this hotel! Second time I have stayed here and the staff are always so amazing and definitely make the hotel!! Shout out to Tanner and Danielle at the pool bar/cafe who couldn't do enough for us! This is a great place for kids - the pool is always lovely and the hot tub is welcoming in cold weather. Love the twinkly lights at night and the general atmosphere. The laundry is a massive plus, especially when travelling with children! Love the little shop and both restaurants are brilliant, we ate there pretty much all the time they were that good! We will be back!!!

Its in a great location with easy access to the freeways, however you can really hear the 101 at night which is my only con - but it eventually becomes white noise :).

It was a wonderful property! Felt so safe and liked that it was like a compound. No open street access which felt more safe. The pool was wonderful. Very nice chairs with covers and plenty of towels. The pool bar was great and even ordered food! Drinks and food were good value and we loved the food we got! Room was very clean and well put together. Bathroom was big, and good room for clothes and storage. Even got a little balcony! Appreciated the mini fridge especially traveling with kids. The bonus on top was the Shuttle to Universal Studios! It was fast and efficient! Perfect way to just make the trip all the easier. We have nothing bad to say about the Garland! We will be back!

We loved, loved, loved this hotel! So pleased I went with the other Trip Advisor reviews. The hotel has the most wonderful, relaxed vibe - and the most fantastic decor. Coming back at the end of the day and relaxing in the pool, watching a film, felt like such a treat. The cheap laundry was a massive bonus as well! Thoroughly recommend this place.

The only 'downer' was the very drunk, noisy group of guests which appeared for the last 2 nights of our stay. They really spoilt our enjoyment of our evening at the pool. When I complained to the manager they did speak to the group to ask them to tone down the vulgar language...Everyone else we encountered was lovely.

This is hands down one of the warmest and coziest places I’ve ever stayed in the LA area—it truly feels like coming home. The moment you step into the lobby, you’re greeted by the comforting glow of the gas fireplace, which immediately sets a welcoming tone. The mid-century modern décor is stunning, and the warm lighting throughout the property creates such a cozy and inviting ambiance. The coffee and breakfast served in the charming Front Porch are the perfect start to your day, and Elisha, my favorite server, makes the experience even more delightful with her friendly and attentive service. Every detail here has been thoughtfully considered, from the stylish décor to the terrific pool and hot tub area that’s perfect for unwinding. The rooms are impeccably clean, comfortable, and full of character—it’s clear that a lot of care went into making this place special. If you’re looking for a true gem in the Hollywood area, this is it. One of our family’s all-time favorite stays!

The elevator closest to our 4th floor room was broken in Portola.

Wow! Lovely little hotel and property. The hotel is really nice, very clean and well laid out. Super friendly and helpful staff. I mean everyone was really there for the guests. Very professional. There's a nice restaurant, smallish but fun pool/spa area, drinks and food available in the pool area so you can have lunch and a swim. (Wait a half hour!) There's a cute little boutique, gift shop with a nice assortment of items you wouldn't expect in a gift shop. ;-) The room was a little tight, with a small balcony and view of the pool area. Nice, clean comfy bed. Clean, nicely appointed bathroom. I especially liked the shower gel, shampoo etc in the shower and I'm a bald guy. The location was ideal for a visit to Universal City, Hollywood, and the San Fernando Valley areas. They even have a shuttle to Universal Studios, but didn't experience that for myself. They also have events scheduled throughout the week, including showing movies in the evening by the pool. I imagine families would really love this place.

The room was a little tight, the mini fridge was quite mini, and the balcony smallish, but overall I have no complaints. The

The room was clean, the housekeeping was reliable and they made sure you had a bed made and clean towels each time they entered the room. The pool was clean and well kept, they offered food and drinks at the bar right across from the pool. Each lounge chair always had a clean towel on it. The hot tub was a good temperature. I would definitely stay here again.

The rooms were outdated. It’s definitely not all about looks but the inside of the room and the hallways were actually pretty ugly looking. I also believe my room was haunted but I made it out okay obviously!

Great hotel. Only a short distance from Universal Studios where the hotel provides a shuttle bus to which was a big bonus. Ate at the restaurant for breakfast which was really good. Friendly staff, spacious and bright, clean rooms. Lovely pool and dining area. They also have laundry facilities which as a family of 4 traveling was a big help Accessible to a lot of tourists attractions. Would be likely to stay here again

We did ask to move rooms as the initail room given was very close to the highway which was very noisy. The reception staff dealt with this very quickly and we got a quieter room.
